"Yeah, those are kind of popular here in Snagem," I said, looking down at Samurai. "I think it's Hawk's Twelve, Dan's Rain, and the girl Dewott that Saurai has a thing for."
I couldn't help but smirk at the light jolt my leg got from Samurai reaching back with his foot to kick me, probably as a sign of embarrassment
"Hasn't battled much, huh? I could say the same about Beldum and Magby, although I've been working with them recently. What would you say to a battle?"
I waved to Odd as he passed by. He seemed tired, but at least he wasn't depressed anymore.

"Huh? He has a crush? Aww, that's cute" she grinned, poking the otter again. Lillipup squirmed out of Alex's arms to properly meet the other pokemon. Z didn't seem as interested, simply floating about and staring. "A battle?! Sure, that'd be fun! Though I'm still a beginner so I might make mistakes" she giggled. Hopefully not a much as the battle she had with Freya.

"Well, that's fine. I'll give you some pointers while we battle"
With that, I led her into the Training Room, letting Samurai and the others relax while Beldum and Magby followed me in.

In the training room, Alex looked around, amazed by the size and space of room, despite having been here before. "Ok...I guess I'll start with Lillipup. That sound good to you?" she asked the puppy. He barked happily and ran out onto the field. Judging by the puppy's look, it was hard to tell if it was ready to battle or play.

"Think I'll save Beldum for Porygon, so let's have the newest member get the first fight. Go on, Magby!"
The little red menace squirmed up to the battlefield, and greeted Lillipup with a mouthful of Smog, though it didn't get very far before dissolving. "Try again, Magby! Use Smog!"
Magby glanced in my direction before turning to Lillipup and spitting out a full barrage of Smog.

Lillipup flinched when he first saw the Smog, but it didn't reach him luckily. So the next time Magby did it, he wasn't as startled. "We can do this! Tackle, full speed ahead!" Alex shouted, making the pup spring into action. He did his best not to inhale the smoke as he attempted to dart through it but that proved to be difficult. Exiting the fumes, the little guy coughed a bit as he tried to knock Magby down.

I let this play out for a bit, waiting for Lillipup to exit the poisonous fumes before choosing an action. "Now! Mach Punch!"
The first thing Lillipup would hit would be Magby's fist, which was shrouded by a brick-red aura. This didn't stop Lillipup's inertia, however, which resulted in Magby being pushed back by a fair bit.

As the two attacks collided, Lillipup found himself knocked back and in pain. He had just experienced his first super effective hit. "Ahh...That didn't go so well. Are you ok?" she asked the puppy who slowly got to his feet and responded with a bark. "Let's use Leer this time!" she shouted the next command. Lillipup shot a piercing look at Magby, hoping it would make the fire type lower it's guard.

Defense-lowering tactics, huh? I mused. "You might want to cover your ears, Alex. Use Screech, Magby."
I was sure to do the same, so I waited for a bit before uncovering my ears. The power of Magby's voice seemed sufficient to push the cloud of pollution toward Lillipup, however.

Lillipup yelped and crippled at the ear splitting noise. Luckily for Alex, she covered her ears when told. She noticed the smoke heading torward her puppy and shouted to warn him. Over the noise, he heard the blonde and quickly evaded. "Ahh...what are Lillipup's attacks again?" she questioned, taking out her SNAG to scan her pokemon. To her surprise, there was a special move the puppy knew but it would be pointless on Magby. "So then...umm...Tackle but be careful!" Alex instructed. Lillipup went for Magby yet again, attempting knock it down, this time looking out for any dirty tricks.

"Come back, Magby," I said after sighing, but before recalling the fire-type. It seemed she had a lot more ways to attack than Lillipup did, which put the little critter at a disadvantage. "Alright, Beldum, maybe you'd be better off practicing against this one."
Beldum wouldn't have had time to use a move before Lillipup hit, so I didn't issue one... yet.

Colliding with the Beldum, Lillipup discovered that running into metal pokemon was not fun. Terashi had switched his pokemon for some reason Alex didn't understand. Nonetheless, her drive to win hadn't faltered. "Let's go Lillipup! Fire Fang!" the blonde commanding, deciding to use the move now that it was beneficial. The puppy's fangs set a blazes before he tried to bite down on the steel pokemon.

I had to admit that Alex caught me by surprise with that move. "Beldum! Resist the burn with Iron Defense!"
Since Fire Fang was a physical move, Iron Defense would help lessen the damage Belldum took from the super-effective attack, allowing it to endure, but only for the moment. "Retaliate with Iron Head!"
This move had Beldum charging at Lillipup, with the intent to strike head-first.

When Fire Fang connected, the pup dug his fangs as deep as possible. Unfortunately, it seemed to be tensing up and getting harder. Letting go, the puppy backed up and watched his opponent. As Beldum charged at him, he waited for Alex's orders. "Uhh...Oh! Dodge!" the blonde instructed, Lillipup dodging at the last second. "Now Fire Fang!" she shouted, sending the puppy in to bite again.

"Hm." Hawk rose an eyebrow, slapping a rather thick looking textbook shut. The book looked old and tattered. "Man, history is kinda interesting." Hawk muttered, tossing the book off the edge of the main room's couch. He hopped to his feet and looked around. Nothing to do at the moment... soooo train! Hawk whipped out a pokeball, released Four, his Joltik, and picked the teeny pokemon up!
"Hello, friend! Let's see what we can do for you." He said, walking off to the training room... Luckily he arrived just in time to see a Lillipup with fire in its mouth! Eh. Lillipup were never on Hawk's list of favorites...
By the looks of things, there was a battle going on! Hm. "Ok, Four. Watch these guys and take notes on what they do." Hawk whispered to his pokemon, the two of them creeping over to a corner to watch.
