I woke up the next morning.
After checking to make sure that Krystal was still asleep, I slipped out of the room and went downstairs, into the kitchen, to make some breakfast for the both of us. It was then that I found out what happened to Keiko.
"Hello?" Keiko said as she entered the complex.
Chaos was the only one in the main lobby. Her face soured, but he'd caught on to her presence and asked her to sit, as he had something to talk to her about. Somehow, when she saw me in the kitchen, she seemed to calm down a bit.
"Now, then, what's your problem?" Chaos asked.
"You shoulld know by now..." she said, her voice still shaken a bit.
This got my attention. I had no idea that Keiko and Chaos had any kind of history.
Neither did Chaos, judging by that look on his face. "Say what?"
"Don't act like you don't remember!" Keiko half-shouted, her facial expression taking a very dark turn. "When we met! In Ecruteak, five years ago! What you did to me when I dumped you-"
Chaos stood up in an instant, killing whatever fire was burning in Keiko. "I don't know what the ~/~ you've got going on in that head of yours, but you better quit that ~/~ with a swiftness. Don't even act like we've met before."
A single tear started to escape Keiko's eyes, and that was enough evidence for me. It only took one step of mine for Chaos to clarify. "Five years ago. ~/~. I was still in HOENN five years ago, thank you very ~/~ much!"
That stopped me in my tracks, and it didn't help Keiko's stance, either. "W-what!?"
"You heard me." Chaos said. He started to calm down though, which I thought was weird, until he explained himself further. "So, how much about 'me' has changed since last we 'met'?"
"What...?"
Chaos leaned in close to Keiko, which had me about ready to walk out there again. All he did, though, was whisper "You heard me." before leaning back.
Keiko took a close look at Chaos, and gasped. "You're right! I.... I thought it was because of the time, but..."
"Yeah. This isn't the first time some chick found one of my impostors and flipped her lid my way because of it." That was when Chaos looked straight at me, which both surprised the crap out of me and had me wondering how long he knew I was there. "You remember Heine, right? I should hope so, considering how badly she kicked you ~/~ in,"
"As much as I'd like to forget, yes," I said.
"That makes two of us," Chaos grumbled.
"Wait, that's right!" I said, remembering something important. "The Fallabor Star Festival, where this whole meteorite business got started. Heine saw someone who looked remarkably like you. Boy, was she mad."
"Yeah, and she killed one hell of a good buzz when she got back."
"So, it wasn't even real...? Keiko asked, sounding as weak as she did when I first noticed her looking scared in front of Chaos.
"Oh, it was probably very real," Chaos said, laughing a bit, which didn't help my mood any. "It just wasn't me."
Keiko hugged Chaos, then. I don't think I'll ever get over the shock of that.
"You're lucky you're not my type," he said eerily, which made her jump off of him. "Heh, that's what I thought."
With that, Chaos left the room for a bit, which helped me relax. "Just what happened back then? What did his impostor do?"
Keiko wasn't comfortable saying it out loud, so she whispered it into my ear. Had she still thought Chaos was the culprit, I would have tracked him down and gotten beat up by him for starting a fight.
Yeah, I knew I wasn't a match for Chaos in a fistfight.
"Looks like I've got a lot of ~/~ to kick in Johto, then," I said darkly. Somehow, that made Keiko smile.
"Tell me about it," Chaos scoffed as he walked back in.
"By the way, did you ever find Al?" I asked.
"No, I couldn't find him." she admitted.
"I hope he wasn't on the hybrid's island," Chaos shrugged.
"What island?" Keiko asked. "And why not?"
Chaos gestured with his hands. "Boom."
Keiko didn't like the look of that. "I'm sure he'll be back shortly," I told her.
"Don't worry, kid. He wasn't there. And I'd know, because I was."
"Thank you," she said to Chaos.
"No problem. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a fainted bird to look after." Chaos said before leaving the main lobby once more.
"And I've got a sick girlfriend to tend to," I said with a sigh. "Are you going to be alright?"
Keiko hugged me, then. I wasn't as surprised at this hug, given that we were related. "Yeah. Now, go be a good boyfriend," she said with a playful giggle before shoving me toward the kitchen.
I smiled at her before grabbing the breakfast I made for Krystal and making my way back upstairs. I caught a glimpse of Sub's office and remembered wanting to tell him something, but I didn't make a go of it, yet. He probably needed a day off after that meteorite business, anyway.

The night had passed with almost complete silence. A noise here, a clatter there, maybe the occasional tap of a foot upon the floor. Sol had opted to remain in one of the few chairs that littered the medlab, knowing he wasn't in much shape to move too much at the time. Not to mention his charge nearby, which he was still trying to make heads and tails of.
He had figured removing the meteorite would likely cause death; it wasn't unlike any other hybrid. Trying to rip away any one part usually had lethal results. He also figured it'd be even worse if the one in question was unstable, where chi could easily go out of balance and wreak havoc. Back at the island, he was almost certain it'd be the case when it came to Ceramew's growing inability to withstand the meteorite's influence, followed by the hostile takeover and everything else that followed.
He never expected what did happen to, well, happen. The meteorite coming out, the sudden explosion of chi, the birth of whatever that thing was, he wasn't sure what. Let alone that somehow, something remained from all of that. A glance was more than enough to tell him that he was looking at a Mew, and he didn't have to question the Pokemon's identity for a second, but the chi around there was weak. Faint. But also growing slowly, as if it was rebuilding.
Despite trying to make sense of it all, he just couldn't. But maybe it was his mind trying to recover too, so for now, he stayed put. He could grasp at straws later.

"Seems it's been more rough for him than I realized, last parts aside." Sol commented, looking over to Sub for a moment. At the moment, he had little reason to converse with him, if only for him to recover. As he saw it, things were calming down; if there was anything for him to speak about, he could wait until Sub was better.
Every so often, he continued to glance at the other bed he was near, at the motionless, pink blob. There was the occasional stir, but little more. Sol's attention would be diverted when he heard footsteps, seeing Veronica come near. "Hm? Is something up?" He spoke up.
