phinelia von ichvalsecond year - ravenclawhermes▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ▬▬▬▬▬▬ ▬▬“In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.” – Desiderius Erasmus “The haft of the arrow had been feathered with one of the eagle’s own plumes. We often give our enemies the means of our own destruction.” – Aesop “There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.” – Socrates “If the brain were so simple we could understand it, we would be so simple we couldn’t.” – Lyall Watson ╔══════════════════╗The hug certainty surprised Phi, but she only hesitated a second before reflecting the kind gesture. Hugs and the physical sort of affection was strange for Phi, not to say her Muggle parents were unaffectionate, but they would show their love and pride in other gestures. Hugging the other girl lightly felt natural, however, and Phi smiled still. "You too." she nodded, red pigtails jumping from her shoulders.

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġThe train ride to Hogsmeade Station had been a rather silent one, with each of the three friends tending to their own thoughts. Colton had a lot on his mind, including the group's newest problem of Phi desiring to know about her blood background. However, even with the memory of Alfons having a full blown mental breakdown in his family's study and his mum's resultant misery, on top of their inability to find any worthy information on Ronyo's duel wand situation, Colton was still able to look back on this past summer with a persistent smile.
As they rolled into the station, Colt gripped the handle of Hemlock's cage, promising him a treat when he returned from the sorting ceremony. Filing out of the compartment, down the claustrophobic aisle, and out of the train door behind Ronyo and Phi, Colton's slow pace didn't indicate that he was in any sort of hurry. He watched as Phi sought out their Hufflepuff friend, who he himself hadn't seen since he had carried her to the hospital wing the night of the fire. Giving Jane a casual wave and a gentlemanly nod of his head, the boy set his luggage down next to Phi's, which he scooted a little to the left to separate himself from a growing gaggle of first years that was quickly forming behind him.
Situating his owl on top his less important belongings and rubbing the top of his fresh buzz cut, Colton sighed quietly and gave Ronyo an inquisitive look. The stern Gryffindor had little to no friends outside of their small triangle, so he felt a bit out of place among all of these returning students. He watched the frenzy as they scrambled around like baby geese, nearly all of them lost and in search of their mothers - or in this case, in search of all the friends they had made over the last year or so. With all the drama that his first year had presented, Colt saw little change that he could've made to avoid coming off as the unsocial, I'm-too-cool-for-you type. With Blake's mental attacks, the fire, and all of the topics of focus over their group's summer of research, adding even one more person into the handful of people he gave notice to would have only been taking away time that he already didn't have.
Straightening his scarlet and gold striped tie, Colton assumed his usual public facade that consisted of an empty expression and observant gray eyes. After the inches he had gained over the summer, he was now at a towering five feet and six inches, a lion among most of the second year mice. Knowing that he still had plenty of height to come, his mum had made him buy two new sets of robes, the ones he was wearing, and an even bigger pair that he had left at home until the time came where his ankles began to show too much. The athlete in Colton Raines had forced him out of bed by dawn every morning to ensure he had time to either take a couple of laps around the lake, go for a quick run along the river, or get a few good hits on the punching bag in the garage. Needless to say, his premature muscles were even more prominent and toned than this time last year. Yet somehow, he couldn't seem to understand why he was quite literally repelling the first years, looking back into their wide eyes with confusion rattling in his brain, though didn't allow even a hint of emotion to play across his perfectly-sculpted face.
"Is it too soon to herd them towards the carriages, or do you think they're still busy catching up with 'girl stuff,' or whatever it is that Phi's been deprived of for the past month?" The brilliant smile that took control of Colton's full lips would have seemed completely foreign to him a year ago as he addressed Ronyo, his illuminated eyes pouncing from him to the set of girls that stood chatting just a few yards away, eventually resting on Phi's burning red hair.

Slip out the back before they know you were there
and at the worst you'll see nobody cares, you don't want to be around when it all goes down...
William Dante Nott the Third
Second Year, Slytherin
And so he carried on, despite all wretched notion of reminiscent dreams, Tay had meandered through the crowd lost under his unchanged height through the bustle of upperclassmen students. Eyes of golden retribution sought the form of a familiar face, Woil’s, but in the state of Roi’s mind. As he neared the line of carriages, he paused if only for another moment to gaze upon the leather winged beasts and their white eyes. They were marvelous really, invisible to the innocent eye and a foreboding disposition that wards off most enemies simply by appearance. Who else could see them, he wondered, a fleeting thought as he reached higher ground and then finally came across the object of his destination. ”Mate,” Tay greeted him simply, eyes veering around to look behind only to find the unmistakable group of clashing colors, the wonder trio and their little Hufflepuff friend. And he still couldn’t help but wonder what all had been overheard on that fateful night at the end of their first year…

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġHis lips peeling back into a smirk at Ronyo's reply, Colton dipped down and armed himself with two owls, a broomstick, and several bags, feeling no need for hesitation before he had picked up Phinelia's luggage with his own. Smiling to the pair of girls from several feet away, they Gryffindor moved back to Ronyo's side and they began to trudge along behind the flow of upperclassmen.
Before he could strike up conversation, his misty gray eyes grazed over a pair of darker ones, dropping further to confirm his suspicion when he spotted the green and silver that adorned the small boy's robes. From a distance, it appeared as if William Nott hadn't changed much - or grown for that matter. Tugging his attention away from those leering eyes, Colton whispered beneath his breath to his best man. "Depends what you mean by of note. His hands full, Colt gestured towards the boy who was situated near the carriages using only his eyes, pretty sure that Ronyo would not overlook him if he only cast his attention northward. He could already feel the weight of the next year becoming heavier, but he forced himself to focus on the good over the bad...for the time being.

Jessica Sassareth
Slytherin, Second Year
Jessica Sassareth disembarked from the Hogwarts Express in her black robe and Slytherin tie neatly in a proper Winsdor knot. The pale redhead was feeling a little better about herself, she looked around for familiar faces. She immediately locked gazes with Phi, who Jess didn't reguard as a rival but as an intellectual peer. Jess gave Phinelia a pleasant smile and a nod. Seeing that she had a lot of people around the Ravenclaw, Jess simply waved and then began to look for Charlotte.
As she glanced around, Jessica didn't spot her. Confusion showed on her knitted eyebrows, "Where is Kat? Hmmmm...."
Bubo hooted from his cage, and Jess looked down and nodded at her grey owl, "Right. Better make my way for the carriages..."
As she turned toward the carriages, Jess froze as she stared at the thestrals set to pull the carriages. Her green eyes locked on to the gaze of one of this skeletal breed of winged horses. She quickly glanced to the other students who didn't seem to be aware of the magical beasts presence. Jess blinked hard and looked back to make sure she wasn't seeing things... but there they were.
......
Then it dawned on her what the creatures were, Jess' thoughts began to reform in a cohearant state, Thestrals. Of course, they're thestrals. Right. I remember reading about Hogwarts stabling a number of them.
(Jess saw her friend Miles Pendragon die, when they were both poisoned before Jess' first year.)
