Sometimes I think that nothing will ever surprise me again, but there's really no getting used to hearing about things like this.

The real skateboarding culture (i.e. the guys who make their own gear, skate at night, and never use "skateparks") is an intense and interesting group.

Not to mention the actual skill and talent involved in actual skating, not just standing around posing with a board.

It is truely horrible, esp. when you grow up in a stereotype rich home. A gay hating dad, a goth hating mother and a prep sister. I grew up knowing that would happen. I think life is full of dicks, so trust noone(may sound harsh, but its cut throat over here)

Quite on the contrary, those you are grouping with said "preps" and "jocks" are not such.
Those who dress similar to the preps and jocks are not such, as the fact they do not act the same.
True preps and jocks are out to get goths, if they were not, they would not be hated by us... I know this sounds wierd coming from me, since I mostly have much more wisdom behing my words...

Plain and simple, Goths have thier natural enemies.... And allies, life is a war, do not get confused who is and isn't on your side...

I do not know where you are from, but the boarders around here.... They are with the goths, and hate the preps as well. I have boarder friends, who would defend me, against their family, were that family member a prep... (I realize skaters normally dislike thier family, it was a figure of speech...)

Exactly, any culture, where there is a cookie cutter archetype, is mediocre. Meaning the only true alternative culture is Hardcore Punk, because they dress how they want and don't give a damn about how you look.

Even they still fit in a stereotype.

Long hair, suicidal tendancies tee, 3/4 lengths, boots.

Short spiked hair, black tee with slogan, normal jeans, trainers.

Skinhead, basket ball jersey, combats, boots.

Short curly hair, studded jacket with no sleeves, baggies, trainers, cap.

Those are just a few of the hardcore punks I know. Their might be a stereotype, but by no means is their a specific cookie cutter pattern that unites them all in some similar way, unlike with say Goth or Emo or Metal, which all have aspects that hold true for every sub-section of the culture.

I am perfectly willing to argue this point with you, but goth has no cookie cutter either. If you want to argue this point with me, on rational terms, PM me, and we may post the results of the arguement after?

XD. I used to skate alot, and still do occasionally. I never really got good at it...I do alot of the older stuff, like ollies, bert slides, flatland stuff, and random freeform stuff. never cared for the major tricks very much. it's alot harder to do than you'd think too, and very tiring. I prefer skating at night, and been tossing around the idea of finding someone's pool since theres a few here that aren't used, plus by this point of the year most public pools aren't in use, and I've been dying to try pool skating. and yeah, most kids these days don't understand where skateboarding comes from and just do all of the tricks that their favorite pros do, buy all the stuff from their favorite pros, really it's disgusting. I walked into a west 49 a couple weeks back looking for some tshirts, and didn't like anythign i saw in the store except the pair of Vans shoes I bought there like a half a year ago. It's become a thing marketed to the main trends of music with emo designed and rap/hip hop designed shirts, and no individuality. Also, it's become a sort of status thing to be able to kickflip, which I cannot. It's really pretty stupid. burning_eyes I just generally do my own thing, whatever seems interesting to me.
