"Time to give this a shot... okay, Poliwhirl! Invite him to the piercing party. Mind Reader!" Aden was grasping at straws at this point. Anything to keep up a little traction, or to delay the inevitable.

"No! Back it-" Aden was a little too late, as his Poliwhirl was battered by the splash radius of the Shadow Ball. This couldn't stand for long. "Okay, never mind the backing up. Shut it down... now! Hypnosis!" Truthfully, he didn't have anything else to warrant the Mind Reader, but he remembered one fundamental rule about psychics: Should they choose to, they could know one's every plan before they ever executed it.

He had figured to even the playing field, if only slightly, with this ploy.

"Hm... you know, I feel kinda bad for doing that to your Xatu." Aden mused. That seemed almost too cheap. But it was only a matter of time before that edge would disappear, and his efforts in doing this much would be for naught. "But I can't let that bother me too much right now. Body Slam!"

Poliwhirl was quick about rushing towards the drowsed Xatu, jumping into the air as he neared and dropping himself on top of the bird. He soon made a mad scramble to dismount, hopefully before it could get its bearings again.

Aden was able to shield himself from the flash, arms raised in front of his eyes. His Poliwhirl didn't share the same luck, however, and found himself wobbling in a daze. "Oh no... Poliwhirl, snap out of it!" He called, to no avail. He knew switching would be a bad idea, at least right now. All he could do was watch, practically left as a sitting duck before the Xatu.

"I can't keep him out for that. Poliwhirl, return!" Aden sent Poliwhirl back into his ball, if only to delay the inevitable a little. Nidoran was taken back out, hopefully with some distance. "Nidoran, we have to take a chance. Get yourself on Xatu and bite down... Super Fang!"

He knew his Pokemon was unlikely to withstand another attack at all, but he could at least try and get some more damage off. The closer he could get, the better.

Despite being in such bad shape, he tried to charge into the attacking Xatu to bite down wherever he could.

"Ready yourself, Nidoran. Focus Energy!" Aden couldn't think of a way to capitalize on the tempo break, but maybe he could recreate his own...

Aden's eyes widened at the sudden development, and he had to think. The only thing that come to mind was a full-out assault. Anything to keep up a little longer. He readied Poliwhirl's pokeball and set it on the ground. "All or nothing... Nidoran, while we've got a second. Beat Up!"

Suddenly, the other ball shook as Nidoran ran headlong at Xatu and tried to attack it. A sharp cry was heard as he neared, calling for the remainder of the attacking party to his aid. This led to Poliwhirl coming out and following into the fray, poised to attack with his ally.

Poliwhirl was instantly recalled with his attack, to prevent incurring any damage from attacks to come. Nidoran, however, was at risk for Xatu's Steel Wing. He knew this was cheap by now, but he had little other choice... "Nidoran, you've done everything you could. Let's try to go out with a parting gift. Fury Attack."

Taking to the more reckless route with the given command, Nidoran went into Xatu's attack and tried to do whatever he could before getting nailed hard and sliding against the ground. He didn't move further, unable to continue the fight.
