SoA's Name: Veyezo, prior to his rank of Pèseptè, he was called Veye, the Keeper
Meaning: 'Bonekeeper' in Haitian Creole (according to Google Translate)
Gender: Male
Species: Lion
Age: Adult
Rank: Pèseptè
Personality: Veyezo doesn't like you. Sorry. In reality, Veyezo respects a great deal of the pride. He respects the Mama, and the Hougans and the Bokor and their counterparts. He respects the Medsen, for their healing. He respects the dead, and the young, and the old. But he does not explicitly like anyone in the pride or out of the pride. It's a learned trait, sadly. He prefers the dead above all else for their gift of silence. They don't complain, or b***h in his ear, while he's flaying the muscle from their bones. When asked between Life and Death, the answer is simple: Veyezo would choose Death, if only it would choose him first. He does his job and he does it well, giving bones to those in need. He has no attachment to the pride in the way of mates, or children, or family of any sort. As far as anyone knows, his family's bones are all that's left, and... well. Given Veyezo's penchance for rooting around in the Hounfors, their bones might not even be all there.
History: Veyezo was born into the pride, as much of his family before him. Though his family wasn't among the first in the pride, they were there long enough that it feels like it. His parents were respectable members, a Mambo priestess and a Guard. They weren't particularly high ranked, though this was their choice. He was born with only a few siblings; two brothers and a sister. His litter, small as it was, was healthy, and they thrived together.

While his brothers were guards like his father, and his sister had taken the darker path of the Caplata, Veyezo's mind had always been lured to the Hounfor. At first, he thought perhaps a shrinekeeper would do him good, but it wasn't the Hounfor themselves. It was what laid hidden beneath them. Bones. Just the word sent a shiver down Veyezo's spine. He was a Pèseptè, born to the rank, a calling far beyond his youth.

As he and his siblings grew older, he watched as they took mates and gave birth. He gladly welcomed his nieces and nephews. Unfortunately, by fate or circumstance, his family began to die off. They were sick, or old, or simply stupid. Whatever the reason, Veyezo watched the birth of his nieces and nephews, and was the one to bury them. He is the last in a long line of Voodoo lions. It is a fear deep in his heart that there will be no more.

He thought about taking a mate, once. She was a pretty shrinekeeper; her laughter warmed him. A Pèseptè, though, is not necessarily a great role when it came to claiming a mate. He was more interested in his bones than bringing her gifts. The shaky romance fell apart when she was left deserted while he went off to dig up bones for an old Mambo. Since then, Veyezo hasn't shown much interest in anyone, let alone allowed the potential for a mate to slip into his mind.
Description: See reference image? He's a thin husk of a lion, a shady sort with beady eyes and a stare that can probably see all those secrets you're hidinggggggg-- Seriously, just look at the ref.
Reference Image(s): Crappy ref image ahoy! And feel free to add/take away/not even use this if you like. xD
The palette I used for him was New Blood and Old Bones. I thought it was fitting. If you don't necessarily like the ref, just use these colors por favor? ;3

.:. Secretive Medsen Fey .:.

Username: Mriae
Lioness's Name: Firyali
Meaning: ‘Unusual; Extraordinary’ in Swahili
Personality:
Firyali is a very hardworking individual. Originally not born into the pride, having been found by the older Medsen Fey, she takes her apprenticeship very seriously and does well to take in all of the teachings the older lion provides her. She wants to remember as much as she can, so as to be a good, helpful member of the pride. Her job is such a high importance because she wants to prove herself, so to speak. During her work, Firyali takes careful precautions not to be bothered while she is learning. It is doing things in this way that keep her from screwing potions or remedies up. She’s a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to that, and anyone bothering her studies is a bit of a hindrance in her eyes. Her work is important! Any other time, if they want to talk, Firyali is fine to let them see her, but not during her work! Anytime but that!

When not doing her work or learning from the older Medsen Fey, Firyali tries her best to be a very approachable lioness. Despite all the quirky stares she gets, despite all the whispers behind her back, she just lets them shrug off her shoulder in an attempt to help out the members of the pride. If a gatherer needs help carrying something, she is happy to assist. A guard needs someone to watch over their post while they get a drink from the watering hole? She is there as well. The young Medsen Fey will even go so far as to share her own food with another pride member if she sees they do not have as much. This hospitality she tries to present, while it may seem like a good thing, can come off as a bit odd to the other members of the pride. Some get the impression that she is trying to hard to get accepted, and perhaps maybe she is, but it is the only thing that comes to Firyali’s mind to do. Acting cold or standoffish in any other way, she feels, would ostracize her all the more, and that is the last thing she wants.

One thing is for sure: the background of the lioness seems to be a bit sketchy. While genuinely eager to share about her family and background, where she came from, things of that sort, depending on who you ask you may get a slightly different version. Why this is, exactly, is anyone’s guess, but it is clear that is something is off with her. In truth, Firyali doesn’t intentionally try to get her stories mixed up – it just sort of happens. She has a bad habit of forgetting who she told what story, which can be a bit troublesome, as she’s trying to keep her real upbringing and history a secret from everyone else. The less they know, the better.

History:
She ran.

How far she had been running or for how long exactly, had become a blur to the young lioness. She couldn’t remember. How far had she gone? One mile? Two – a hundred? Whatever it was, it seemed like an eternity, and still she found the urge to keep pressing on. She had to, after all. She had to escape her fate. All her life those around her had told her that it was impossible to escape the fate life had dealt them. You couldn’t run from destiny, yet there she was, avoiding hers. Not wanting to dwell on such thoughts, the young female pushed them into the back of her mind and kept going. She had to, after all. There was no other option, no other choice. Her life, literally, depended on running at that very moment.

Eventually, Firyali had to stop running. Well, she didn’t stop, exactly, as more as pass from exhaustion to all the traveling she had been doing. No longer could the lioness do it. Tired, out of energy, and in need of not only food, but of water as well, she passed out in the middle of territory unknown to her. Before fading to black, the female recalled only one thing: it was nighttime when she ended up stopping, and she fell unconscious under a starry sky.

How long she was out for was anyone’s guess, but by the time the lion managed to come to, it was daylight and the sun was beating down upon her fur. In need of food and water, she found herself trying to stand up, only to hear a voice advise her otherwise. He wouldn’t do that if he were her, the strange lion exclaimed. She was too exhausted to try and find water, let alone go and hunt. Who on earth was this guy? Where had he come from, and what did he want with her? Well, as fate would have it, the older lion wanted nothing, really, except to help her regain her energy.

He provided aid to her through the help of some strange remedies and concoctions she had never seen before. They were strange brews – bitter tasting and earthy – but she didn’t object when he gave them to her. After a short period of time, they began to help. And as the lion helped her, he was something called a Medsen Fey, she came to found out, the lioness came to tell him everything. She told him her whole story – her name, how she got there, every little detail, and he soaked it all in like a sponge.

The Medsen Fey was impressed, he told her once she was finished recalling her past. A unique lioness with odd circumstances, he knew he would have to help her more. There was something about her, something that he couldn’t put his paw on. There was something different, yet he knew helping her would be the best for the both of them. She would need a place to live – a job to do, and not only that: she would need a new identity. It was at that moment that the older Medsen dubbed the lioness Firyali, and it was right after that when he took her under his paw.

The rest, as they say, is history.

What's her secret?:
Firyali is not who you think she is. In fact, her real name isn’t Firyali at all.

The lioness was born in a pride a good distance away from the Voodoo Pride, and upon coming into the world she was given the name Haoniyao, a Swahili name meaning ‘born during an argument.’ The female came into the world as part of a litter of three, an unlucky number within her pride’s beliefs. She was also born to a prominent family within the pride, and to help deal with the misfortunate circumstances of their birth, her parents and the other pride members decided that something had to be done.

One of the lions (a female, in particular) had to be sacrificed to the Gods. Sacrifice to the Gods, while not an uncommon practice done where she was born, initially didn’t take place right away. It took place after the particular lion in question reached adulthood, or rather, when they were able to defend themselves and fight to try and stay alive. Shortly after she was born, it was decided, Haoniyao would be the one to be sacrificed to the God’s when the time was right, and it was a burden the cub would have to live with the rest of her life.

Yet as she grew older, Haoniyao didn’t want to resign herself to such a fate. She didn’t want to grow up knowing that as soon as she reached adulthood, everything she hope and dreamed for would be taken away. Death to appease the Gods her parents and pride members believed in was not going to be her destiny, and so she did the only thing she could have done: she ran and abandoned everything she knew.

Firyali’s secret is her double life: the fact that she has a family entirely different from the voodoo tribe, a different fate, and even a different name. Yet she is trying her hardest to forget it all. All she wants is to find a new fate and make a new name for herself so that she can keep on living.
