I personnally hate being around smokers, and I think it is a disgusting thing to do, but I see drinking the same, and the scenario described at the start of this thread is indeed horridly hippocritical.
I personnally think that if alcohol is legal, then we should also see mass markets for hallucinogens and pot, because alcohol is worse than both of these. So why are they so taboo? I don't know :S I'm not one to do any drugs, but it doesn't seem sensible that alcohol would be acceptable, while less dangerous drugs aren't.

Wrong. You can see things which frighten you and cause you to do things that harm yourself. They can possible cause you to kill yourself. But what you SEE, cannot kill you. It is your body's reaction which kills you.

That's what I said. I didn't know how to phrase it.
I meant like people who see things which tell them they can fly so jump of a building for example.

I don't do both. I just move away if someone's smoking nearby. But second chain smoke is more lethal than first hand smoking. So if people want to suck on death sticks or burn out their brain cells, it's not my body.. but at least to those who smoke, hope that they will have some decency not to drag people down with them.

In general I say live and let live. If I see someone smoking, I won't say anything.

However, if it's someone I really care about and they're smoking a lot, I will tell that person I'm really concerned for their well-being and I wish they'd stop.

My boyfriend, for example, started smoking this summer. At first he listened to me when I said I didn't want him hurting himself like that, and he promised he wouldn't smoke too much and that if I thought it was out of hand I should tell him to stop. Well, now it's out of hand, and he smokes a lot. I do occasionally tell him I'm worried but by now he knows how I feel about it. I wish there was something I could do, but I know there isn't. Especially since I live so far away.

EDIT: For the record, I don't smoke or drink. I never want to smoke, and I won't drink until it's legal, at which time I'll try to drink responsibly.

Also, according to the ridiculous amounts of research I had to do for a project lact year, marijuana is far less harmful than nicotene and alcohol. Yeah it's sometimes laced and that can be harmful, but marijuana itself is practically harmless. If it's ever legalized, and I hope it is soon, I might try it.

i dont see the benefit of doing either, so i just stay away from them. most of the time i find people smoking in front of me while i 'm walking, and i just find it so annoying.

Well, they both kill you but ********, we are dieing anyway! I smoke, i drink, and i am aware that it kills you slowly but the smoking keeps me calm and drinking my problems away seem to be my only calm point. I don't leave my house when i drink so not to much harm can come to me, most the time i lay on the floor and giggle with my cousin over how drunk we are. I smoke weed for the expierence, any it is only ever once and awhile. If i am going to live i might as well live for the party nights.- Rock on!

Same here, and I always seem to find myself walking behind a smoker whenever I'm going somewhere on campus.

I think they meant that alcohol increases the chances of you getting raped, which we all know it doesn't. Alcohol doesn't make you do anything, your still in control of all your faculties, save for slower reactions and you care less what people think. Also alcohol doesn't make you have car accidents. Alcohol is an effect not a cause.

I don't smoke, and I barely drink. Quite a few of my friends smoke, and both of my roommates smoke. I can't stand the smell of smoke and everyone know's not to smoke around me because of the fact I hate it and consider it to be incredibly rude for someone to light up around me, especially without asking. I know that's selfish towards the person who smokes...but I'm ok with you killing yourself, I just would prefer you not kill me in the process.

Although I believe smoking is a worse vice then drinking, I do think drinking to exess is horrible as well. You're not only putting your own life in danger (liver, kidneys and even sometimes heart) you're also putting everyone else around you in danger (DD, fighting, etc). I hate hanging around with roudy drunks, espically since I don't drink...one or two when I go out but I barely get over tipsey.

I think they are both bad vice's... but I wont make people stop doing them, I don't like to control what other people are doing. But I'd prefer smokers to go outside away from me...and drunks I'm the one who walks away.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.
It makes me so mad when people say that girls do things that MAKE people want to rape them. Urgggh!
