The drumstick was still twirled in one hand. Preacher's gaze flickered towards Melany as she slipped off the stage, and then back to the carnival girl with the violent colored hair, raising her eyebrows wordlessly. Nothing was said, but there was the faintest hint of a smirk on her face, a careless shrug making her shoulders rise and fall.

A flinch passed across Juniper's face at the mention of the children; involuntary and pained. She swallowed hard, looking down at her marshmallows without really seeing them, and a slow nod was given alongside Nasir's confirmation. Students of hers and his, yes. Disappeared, yes.

What happened to you?

But it was hard to talk about these things in public, and with a fellow teacher. Juniper bit her lip and turned her head away.

Shun Kuroda 25/25 | North

Ming was a familiar name. Heliodora had mentioned him. Based on the way she had brought him up, this Ming attempted to do something to Heliodora, and ended up dying for it.

"I see... I am sorry to hear that," he stated, furrowing his brow, "There are a number of things revolving those three that cannot be easily explained. I am trying to get to the bottom of it."

He glanced over at Nasir and Juniper. Between them and the band, he had options as to where to go from here. But most likely he was going to need to tread lightly around the subject with those more familiar with them.

"Thank you for asking our questions, Algernon. Every bit helps us further along with this mystery. Enjoy the concert in the meantime."

Rylan to north bonfire

Juniper's gesture didn't go unnoticed. Rylan paused, then the firefighter's instinct to reassure took over, and he leaned forward to catch her eye.

"I'm sorry, I really am. It... I know how it feels to have people you have a connection with disappear, and there's nothing you can do about it," he said with a sigh. "Helplessness, it wreaks havoc on your emotions. And wondering what in the world you could have done."

One hand went to rub the back of his neck, in an attempt to quell the unrest that gnawed at him whenever he thought of all the people he'd failed to save.

"You don't know me well, but I understand, at least one some level. There's... well, I don't know what I can do, but I don't want to let these disappearances and these deaths go unsolved. If there's anything, anything at all you're thinking of..." He nodded slowly. "I've seen more unbelievable things this past year than in all the rest of my life combined. I don't think there's anything I wouldn't believe at this point."

"I'm alright-" She rubbed her forehead and nodded to Juniper, but it seemed whatever bothered her was lingering.

"Everything's a little dangerous is all," Leila cut her eyes to Vivien a moment. "The cliffs by the beach aren't really monitored as much as the woods and even those.. there's been fires."

She dropped a hand onto Vivien's head affectionately and smoothed her hair, as adults were oft to do to kids.

"I'm not sure," That uneasiness still there in her eyes and the movements of Leila's body, "That today is a good day for you to go there Viv.."

Ashton Carver 25/25 / moving to Rabbit

Ashton nodded to Algernon, respectfully, sensing that this was probably the end of the conversation for now - he was distraught, and one of the firemen and Detective Kuroda were already moving to the two adults at the north bonfire, so an extra third party wasn't needed.

But a solo? He might be of use, if he wasn't too deep into his flask to counteract any available information. So Ashton offered him a concerned look and an extended hand. "You alright? Want to talk?" He made himself as unthreatening and appealing as possible, for a stranger.

The elder Leila stole another glance at her younger self. It was trickier than she wanted to admit to read her: twenty years of difference, and being most familiar with mirror images of herself, would do that, time shenanigans nonwithstanding. There was something recognizable in her discomfort though, and even though Eve was better at talking, Leila decided to follow through on the impulse to help.

"Got a migraine?" she asked, slipping into the friendly tone she used for students. "Or is there something on your mind?"

Nasir seemed a bit uncomfortable with the line of questioning, as well as with Junipers own uneasiness with him. They were work friends, and 'friends' probably was him being generous because he really would like to be friends with most but...

"I've um.. I think I see a friend of mine," He motioned vaguely to a group standing not far from the fire but it seemed a bit like an excuse.

"Excuse me a moment." And he left Juniper and Ry alone to talk, moving to the other side of the bonfire alone.

"I investigated a bit on my own but I hit dead ends," Alg could see the detective wanted to move on, maximize his information gathering, and while he could sympathize he knew just how hard this town could be.

"Good luck in your search Mr. Kuroda." The young man pushed his glasses up, reaching for his beer which had been abandoned and took a drink to steady himself a bit. "These people aren't very open to the concepts of... oddities or outsiders. You too Jack.." As the doctor moved away.

Said the man sitting alone with crazy theories.

"The cliffs?" Cam looked to Ves and gave it a thought.

"I know the kids like to climb them. My Viv seems to like them," He smiled a bit at the girl surrounded by women.

"Probably having secret meetings," Finn gruffly coughed off to the side, in his ever present grump.

Cam's brows rose a moment in visual cue of apology, "I think it's just a bit of a hang out place."

"Oh I," her smile seemed to purse looking at the other Leila, "just haven't felt very well today. I probably wouldn't have come out if not for Vivien.."

Leila decided to accept Mini Leila's obvious lie, instead of prodding further, and gave her some space. In doing so she returned to sit near the Army Boy version of Aleksey's boyfriend and his army buddy she didn't fully recognize. "Secret meetings, huh?" she asked, greedily taking a third lemon bar and giving Eve a little look to combat her playful disapproval over it. "Kid commies or something else?"

Shun nodded to Alg. It was something he had to keep in mind as he spoke with the others. He had an interesting start, to say in the least. It was just going to be tricky in how to capitalize on that. Algernon might like mysteries, but that didn't mean the rest did as well.

"Well if you hear anything else, or remember any other notable details, please let me know later," he nodded. After looking towards Juniper, he considered his options. He glanced to the others in the immediate aream then went on and approached her.

"Is everything alright ma'am?" he asked. She seemed... upset. By something.

America Jones - South - Persuasion +1

The redhead beams at Vivien as she thanks her. Sounds of distinct appreciation for lemon bars in all their beach side glory follow. Swallowing the last of her bite, America gives young Leila a look of complete and utter sympathy. "Might be some kinda autumn pollen or something, been having some bad ones myself since coming here. Visión even went a bit sideways a few times." Entirely true.

America gives the shoreline a look of barely concealed longing, "Don't suppose either of you could show me these cliffs? Even a map'll do.“ Ducking her head a bit, America tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. "Never got a chance to meet my mom, so even little stuff and maybe stuff is..." glancing up, she finished, "...it means a lot."

Also very, painfully true, even here on the other end of time before Leanne was even born. Does she come here, years from now, are there concerts at the beach for her. Did she know? About magic? About Sunny and the town?

There's always more questions, America can't say she hasn't fallen in love with some of the answers.

"It's 'cause of the magic, isn't it," says Vivien, pouting. "I'm not a communist. Mama says I can't have politics until I'm older. But I'm probably more of a socialist anyway." She shrugs and noms on her lemon bar. "I can show you the cliffs, Miz Jones! I know them the best. There's a secret spot too, but I'm not supposed to talk about it--Daddy, can I go to the cliffs with Miz Jones?"

Which is exactly what she's doing. Vivien picks up Professor Crab once her lemon bar is the thing of the past. "I'm gonna drop him down Professor Algernon's shirt," she decides.

Professor Crab is too big to fit down anyone's shirt.

Finn gave Leila a rise of brows, "You never know these days. Times are changing that's for sure."

Cam was actually turning to Vivien, America, and younger Leila with a frown. He didn't like her going off with strangers but he didn't feel comfortable leaving the bonfires withough proper supervision and wasn't sure how many drinks in Finn may get, for all his responsibility. Especially if people started talking politics.

"Only if Miss Leila goes with you.." Chief Rylan replied, his eyes moving to the young babysitter.

She again looked uncomfortable, especially since Vivien just said the 'm' word.

"Sure, Mr. Rylan I can..." She didn't seem to want to but slid out of the truck bed and gave Eve a small polite smile before offering her hand to Vivien.
