Did someone go to fraudulent lengths to get the site taken down? Anyone know how true this account is?

I wonder, also, if you think this is justified. I understand there may be copyright vs freedom of information issues here, if your feelings are affected by that please share.

I'm curious.

A simple case of artist's rights vs. site administrators being complete assholes.

Without art, the site would be nothing. Artists have every right to do whatever they want with their art, be it on their own webpage or on other sites. If they want art taken down, you had best take it down, unless you want a bunch of very pissed off artists on your hands. This admin, whoever he is, sounded like a real asswipe who wouldn't listen to the majority of people who helped make his site what it is. As far as bringing up fraudulent charges, who cares? I'd say that the artists were fully justified in doing what they did.

Do those ultrasonic screechers work to repel dogs?

If not, pepper spray will keep dogs from bothering you or yours too much.

If you're going to call animal control on someone, you should warn him first.
I remember seeing something on screechers way back when, but I would imagine something like that would repel my dog too. Last thing I want is to make my dog associate other dogs with a painful loud noise.

I am planning to get pepper spray. Not so much for now but when I walk alone with my dog in the future. Must admit I would feel hard pressed to use it on the strays I have met so far. Hate to punish an overly friendly dog for its owners mistake. neutral

At the same time my dog however does not like dogs rushing in on him, especially larger dogs. He will snarl growl, and if pushed I wouldn't be surprised if he snapped at another dog that doesn't get his body language that screams BACK THE ******** OFF! Thus, it becomes a dance with me trying to keep the loose dogs from circling around me, while at the same time keeping my dog calm. I've been working on his comfort zone with being around other strange dogs when on leash, and the last thing I need is some stray bumbling in and messing up all the progress I've made.

As for animal control, we haven't contacted them at this point. We have on two occassions warned the owners with the little dog that they need to do something or we will call animal control. It isn't that the little dog is a problem for me when I'm walking, but at the rate it is going the little dog is either going to end up hurt or dead, or possibly even hurt someone else in an accident. My dad says he has seen cars swerving to avoid hitting it because the thing goes running in the street barking at anything that moves. rolleyes

Rainey- All the dogs migrate to your house because they can sense your a dog person. xd

Who cares about fraudulent charges?

Are you trying to sound like an a*****e? No, seriously. Maybe this is a joke on your part and I just don't think it's funny because I almost got sent to prison for years on a false accusation.

You know, growing up in a religious household and attending religious schools, I learned about this concept - typified in the Scripture by Jezebel, who you might want to look up. The witness who perjures himself suffers the same penalty he tried to force on his victim. It's because of this funny if possibly quaint notion of "justice", which among other things says that if you didn't do it, you shouldn't be punished for it.

"Who cares" indeed.

I'm not trying to defend the administrators. Like I said, there are legitimate issues involving the conflict between copyright on freely distributed works and freedom of information. And if the artists had simply pressed the line of attack regarding unauthorized use of artwork, I think I would have come down behind them. But for you to shrug off false accusations as meaningless shows you are either not thinking, or are purely predatory toward your fellow.

Which is it, FogSage?

The fraudulent charges do not matter because in a court of law they'd never hold up. If push came to shove and the site was searched thoroughly, they would not find child pornography or bestiality on the website, correct, judging from what the site says?

So unless you have something to hide, these charges shouldn't matter one way or the other. neutral You don't endorse the posting of things such as child porn or bestiality, right? You don't keep it in your home, you don't look at it on your computer, you don't have any interaction with it at all. If these things are brought to light, then I think you have little to worry about.

The statement that "You have nothing to fear if you've done nothing wrong" does not make up for false accusations.

False accusations, in a court of law, can ruin lives and careers and strip people of their worldly possessions in order to pay for a lawyer who won't fall asleep in the middle of the trial. Oh, did I forget to mention this...? Only a totally incompetent prosecutor lets a lack of evidence get in his way. Evidence doesn't matter, if you have a shitty lawyer to defend you. The voice of God could come from the heavens to proclaim your innocence and the prosecutor would tell the jury that this indicates you've engaged in some kind of bribery to get God on your side.

I am damned lucky that my case never made it to court, because I knew the detective interrogating me was lying through his teeth, and I told him so. But I'm a lot smarter than a lot of people who get hauled in front of detectives and interrogated. And I'm white, that also helps.

Well, when you put it that way, I can see why you feel the way the artists went about getting their way was extreme and destructive. o.o

It was spiteful and possibly even thoughtless of them to do it, but it makes me wonder whether they felt that such drastic actions were befitting of the circumstances.

If it was just artwork, this makes me question if artwork depicting underage characters falls into being illegal. I know the VCL will NOT allow artwork depicting underage characters in their archives. But if it is true, doesn't that mean FA could also be shut down for this?

Naw, it isn't illegal. The courts ruled on fictional depictions of underage characters a few years ago.

I wonder why the site was shut down then. I would think the legal system would be able to hunt their archives and tell if there was real child porn on the site.

No external force shut the site down, the owners decided to halt operation on their own. They were aware of what those group of people were up to and decided it was easier to just remove the gallery than deal with any future problems that might arise. Simply put, they decided to cut and run rather than fight.

More of a better safe than sorry thing in my mind. They would rather close it than deal with all the issues that could arise if they left it up.

Lots of stuff been going on over here, including a new dog. If anyone cares to know about what happened in the life of Shoki while she was gone, can look my FA journal entries from the past few weeks 'cause it'd take too long to post it all here.

I need a job/source of income.

Being suspended for a semester aside, I need money. Preferably so I can get a car, pay for insurance, move out of my parents' house. But it's a sick cycle. I live way out in the middle of nowhere, with cows and an alpaca farm. There are NO jobs within reasonable walking distance, and the ones my parents could drop me off at.. well, one, I don't need the kind of drama that depending on parentals for rides to work can cause, and two, all the ones that are hiring on that route are retail. I can't work retail. Well, I could, but my social anxiety disorder would quickly lead to me doing something stupid like freezing up when put on the spot, or serious tremors (they kinda get in the way..).. so yeah, need money for car, need car for job, need job for money, is basically what it comes down to.

I wish my art was good enough that I could reasonably charge real money for my drawings. But it's not.

I'm at the point where I'm tempted to cash the bonds I got as a baby and use that as deposit money on a cheap a** apartment in albany. No shortage of jobs there. Hell, Toys R Us on Wolfs Road is hiring, and that would be like perfect, even if it is retail. I can't screw up toys, I know that for sure.

Maybe a daycare center or something.. the little ones like me for some reason.. and I know lots of funny camp songs.. *argh*

Oh, and drivers test on tuesday. Nervous? ********: Oh god, Dad overheard me and Pip going at it last night. I think I may die.

Have you thought about trying to get a bike to ride to places? I'm not sure of the distance that you're talking about, but it may be possible to get there with a bike.

Social Anxiety can be overcome slowly. Remember, not everyone bites *winks*. But I know it's issues, I have it as well.

Good luck on your drivers test.
