Trigram Attack
Tails closed his eyes and nodded. "Yeah," he said. "I was worried that you'd be mad because I hurt people. And still..." There was that look of discomfort again. "I helped Sub's Spiritomb get some confessions out of our target. Apparently he has a boss named Gonzap and the boss has the Snag Machine now."

"....Gonzap..." I said. Name rang a bell. Another name that the Rangers took credit in taking out. In fact, this guy lead the team that made the Snag Machines. The ones that we picked up while under the lead of Miles was probably what was left over from that ordeal. I shook my head of it; something to talk to Sub about later. "Look, I'm not mad that you singed a few people pretty good. This is part of the operation that Sub's running. Now I would have a gripe with it if you did it just to pretty much be a school-yard bully, trying to get your way or whatever over trivial things, then I would have an issue with it. Look at me, I had to crack a few heads before I met you when I was trying to put an end to Celcius years ago. After that, well, the rangers themselves. Then the guys that we had to put up with when we came here initially; the ones that Ein was hanging out with. I'm not getting any pleasure out of it, I do it because there are people and Pokemon in this world that can't do what we can." I reached over and scratched behind Tails's wet ears to put him at ease. "Don't worry too much on it, alright?"

"Mmm." This was good. Blizz wasn't mad, and he still helped Sub. Use powers out of necessity -- not simply to bully. And, well, Blizz had so far abided his Rattata hunting. Still, there was one more thing he needed to know. "So Blizz," he said, and didn't open his eyes. "If you had to try to get information out of a guy afraid of his boss, how would you do it?"

"Well, depends on the guy really. Regardless, the whole idea is to make him more afraid of you, who is there, as opposed to a boss, who is more than likely elsewhere, all the while not really rendering him incapable of telling you anything..." Something then dawned on me. Something that might help Tails a little, if ever a time came. "Tails, I might have an idea for you to consider. A move, typically common among Vulpix and Ninetales. Though if I help you learn it, you must promise me that you will only use it when absolutely needed, just as we were talking about, alright?"

Tails' eyes opened, and he straightened up. Sub, too, had wanted to teach him something, related to whatever Spiritomb had done. Still, he listened with rapt attention. "I promise," he said, and knew Blizz was serious. Though he abided the hunting, Blizz did once tell him to stop playing with his food before killing it.

He didn't agree with the reasoning at the time.

"You can thank the hybrid I met out in Unova for making me consider this actually. Its Confuse Ray." I said. "With the right manipulation, it might help you get out of tight spots, or, in a situation that you were talking about, where you're trying to get info out of a guy. Kind of add to your...fox trickery, I suppose." I then said. "What do you think?" I asked.

"Confuse ray," Tails mused. It was a ghost type attack. Ghost type attacks tended to have some chi similarities to Will-o-wisp...and that was when he finally understood why something about the Spiritomb's attack felt familiar. His eyes went wide. "Blizz, can Vulpix learn a move called Hex?"

Hex? It was an attack I was unfamiliar with, to be all honest. Then again, I had been learning more about discovered Pokemon attacks and the likes ever since we started roaming the Unova region more and more. I was left to wonder now, myself. "Give me a second..." I pulled out the SNAG then started to look it up. I read over pretty quickly what was Hex, and what it did, and Pokemon species that are known to have it. "Huh...apparently Vulpix are known to use Hex, however...oooooh. Hex will be absurdly difficult for someone like yourself to learn. I'm not saying that you can't, but apparently Hex is usually a attack for Vulpix that they get from their own biological parents. Kind of a natural thing..." I explained. That...felt bad just to even say, considering.

"Oh."

Tails did not sound immediately disappointed. It made sense. By the way their target reacted to its application, it seemed like a terrible move -- even worse than Confuse ray. In fact, even if he learned Confuse Ray, he could not imagine how he could conjure a threatening illusion. "What does Hex do, anyway?"

"Apparently as far as what I am reading here, it's just a basic ghost attack, not all that strong, that is unless an opponent is afflicted with some major ailment. Burns, poison, paralysis, sleep...you know, the major ones. If that be the case, the damage ends up considerably greater than before." I said. "Its essentially intensifying what damage that's already there." I said. As I continued reading on, I found something, a edit, something recent, perhaps only within the past month or so. "Wait, Tails, I take that back what I said. While it is something learned by parents, there has been evidence recently that Vulpix can learn this as part as their repertoire as they grow up." I said.

A realization dawned on me just then. "What got you interested in Hex anyhow?" I then asked. "For that matter, how did you hear of this anyways?"

"Oh." It was still a disaffected 'Oh.'

"Sub had me burn our target to get him to talk," Tails began. "He abandoned his Gloom the moment it looked like he couldn't beat us, and I was just so mad I thought he deserved it. But after that, Sub had his Spiritomb use Hex on him." The scream played through his head again. His ears twitched almost with sympathy. "His yelling sounded like something I woulda heard in the old lab in Orre..."

Something that Sub's Spiritomb done. Go figure. Something else dawned on me though. He just associated something with something in Ein's lab. Something that made me had to question him more, now, since I got Miles's letter back. Worse still, considering I never once brought up the lab. "Well, we'll talk more on this. Go ahead and finish your shower. I kind of held you up and who knows how much hot water went by." I said. "I'll let you finish before your shower gets cold, alright? I'll see you when you get out. I'll have something for you that you might like. I think you deserve it at the very least, considering today." I said, making my way out of the bathroom.

Immediately Tails' face lit up with a smile, and his tails splashed water about with their wagging. "Okay, Blizz," he said. Maybe it was a trip to a volcano to really burn the smell off. Maybe it was some hot chocolate. Maybe it was both! With the promise of this thing-he-wasn't-sure-what-it-is, he washed, and eagerly too.

I made my way to my room, hopped upon the bed, sat there and waited. I had the stash of cookies out for him, ready for Tails to start ruining supper over. Perhaps while I am at it, while in here, I can coax out a few things about why Tails have been hard at it like he has. Was he looking for that outlet like I am thinking he is? I'm really hoping that my fears are unfounded.

Glaceon found her way over to the bedside and hopped on up. "Hey there. Doing okay?" I asked, scratching behind the ice type's ears.

"ce-onnnnn." It spoke up, leaning into the ear scratching.

It wasn't too long after which that a poofy Tails with inquiring puppy-eyes peered into Blizz's room. He'd incinerated his clothes before applying his flamethrower to every bit of his body he could reach. Finding a new set of clothes was secondary to learning what it was Blizz had prepared for him.

"Hi," he said, and quickly those eyes fell upon those cookies. He couldn't smell them so well because they hadn't been reheated but once he thought about the time of year he dared to hope that they were from Hyda.

"Merry Christmas from Miles and family." I said, holding up the box for Tails to see. "Come have at it." I said.
