So how'd you calculate that?

50 Gold Pieces is worth a pound of gold.
Gold is currently 900+ Dollars an ounce.
So, going with 900 as the value in dollars of an ounce of gold I calculated that a pound of gold was worth 14,400$ and from that I determined that a Gold Piece is worth 288.00$
Now, the conversion rate for credits and GP is 1 GP for every 4 Credits. This was determined by comparing the value of shortswords which are available in Star Wars and D&D alike.
From there I took 288/4 and came out with 72.

A small fee for awesomeness.

That means a brand new YT-1300 freighter was 7,200,000 dollars.

Still a small fee for even greater awesomeness.

How much is a used though? I don't care about the warrently or the new-ship smell.

Depends on who you're buying from, where you're buying at, and what you're buying.
Typically, a Used YT-1300 goes for 25,000 Credits, which is 1,800,000$

Quick question.

My boys and I in my SWG guild have been using Imperial Call signs. I'm a Sandtrooper, Sergeant rank, and my call sign is HK-113. Does that make sense? Is there a certain rule for call signs? I've been in it for a while, and our leadership slowed down a good deal, so role play clarification is needed.

what sort of empire is this, and what era? GCW era, you can go by your rank or your number (in ANH a stormtrooper was addressed specifically by his number, and I can't recall any other examples of a specific stormtrooper callsign, although inferior grade STs also address superior grade STs as 'sir', and possibly by rank, as the navy does that). post GCW, into legacy, STs do have personal nicknames, such as the members of joker squad. the new guy is 'noob' for example. last names are also used i believe. conceivably, it would be acceptable to go by ID number, but probably regarded as very formal.

That made me wonder:

Where exactly did the idea for orange shoulder pads for officers come from? Is there ever a case of both shoulders with one, is it entirely a 1-shoulder thing?

I think its a one shoulder thing. Clones have always had yellow markings for command personnel, so I guess at some point the clones gave a list of recommendations for further equipment and doctrine changes after the end of the clone wars.

1. Shoulder pauldrons color coded to designate rank.
Black = Private
Grey = Corporal
White = Sergeant
Red = Lieutenant
Orange = Captain
Yellow = Colonel
etc...

2. More comfortable armor
3. Issue more repeating blasters on the squad level.
4. Better ration packs.
