Okay, it's official, Soothslayer is getting a little on the senile side. Currently she is over nine and a half months, which is very old in Mantis years for her species. In the last month or so, her eyesight has declined. She has some spots on her eyes that mantises at times get. I've had a few in the past who got them later on in life, but none had their vision distorted quiet as bad as Sooth.
She can still see, but apparently the spots have thrown off her depth perception. Recently I've caught her down at the bottom of her cage striking at her own shadow, and her catch ratio of prey items is horrible. Thankfully she is just the type of bug that will run after her dinner striking like wild till she lucks out and makes a catch.
Well anyway, on to what happened tonight. Like I often do, I let her have the run of my room. She had just finished eating a cricket and climbed up the side of my bunk bed like she often does. She continued to crawl till she got to the corner and was swaying looking in my direction where I was sitting at my desk. I thought she kind of looked like she was going to jump or fly, but I brushed that off since she is too fat to fly and was too far from anything to make a successful jump.
Then, the next thing I know is I see a flash out of the corner of my eye followed by a thud. She did indeed attempt to jump/fly to me. Needless to say she failed horribly and fell faster than a pig leaping off a barn roof with chicken feathers glued to its back. I rushed over and thankfully she was not only fine but walking around like looking at me like, "Oh I meant to do that...you were suppose to catch me!" xp
It's moments like this why I remember why I love mantises so much. Such goony little googley eyed bugs. rofl 4laugh heart

Krissim Klaw Af Mas That's really cute, Kriss :3 I'm really sick of snow now. Two days in a row of really nasty snow. Makes it hard to want to go anywhere. No fun getting there too if you have to go somewhere. Spring can't come soon enough I only wish I would have caught even half the funny stuff my mantises have done over the years on tape. One day I'm going to catch them doing something and send it in to Funniest Home videos. XD As for Spring... its so hot down here you end up sweating within five minutes of stepping outside. You need to ship me some of your snow. gonk I'm afraid you'll only get water ^^;

FogSage Otherkins and Therians make me want to beat them in the head with a hammer. Jesus. Quit deluding yourself. You are human. You cannot be anything other than human. If you think you have the soul or mind of an animal, you are obviously psychotic and belong in a mental hospital, far far away from us normal people. If you can't accept your own pathetic humanity, you are in far worse a mental state than I am. Me, the 20-year old homosexual man living in an outdated, overbearingly conservative state with the stresses of college and finding work and finding my social niche hanging over my head every ******** second of the day. /endrant.
I can say I feel somehwat similar, I think theyre quite nutty, but Im not so hostile about it unless theyre bugging me. I do enjoy a good FYIAD.
Rainey_angel81 I got poison oak. It' lovely, really. I have it on my ear, neck, face in two places. both arms, and on my legs.. I bought a lot of anti-itch cream but it's bad.
That sounds positively lovely. Good luck with that.

FogSage Shaviv I woke up in the middle of a dream, this morning, in which some big name in /furi/ was lecturing me, in what I felt was a somewhat hostile way, about how to properly bake a soufflé. Specifically, he was telling me about how it was important to use only the whites of the eggs, and whip them with a hand whisk rather than a fork or a spoon or a power mixer. Why? Well, only the hand whisk gives the proper mixture of fluid and air bubbles. And you have to use the whites only because they contain protein chains that stiffen when heated, and trap the air bubbles effectively when you pop it in the oven; if there's even the slightest bit of fat, the guy was saying, the proteins won't chain up properly. You guys know about /furi/, right? That it's an imageboard for furry porn, basically? So it was a bit of a ********, this dream. Soufflés, beating by hand, porn, mind ******** not compute. x_x What, did you fall asleep watching Iron Chef while whacking off to porn or something? What I think happened is that I was thinking about /furi/ while half-asleep and listening to a cooking show on my radio (which is my alarm clock).
However,
the idea that such a dream could arise spontaneously, ex nihilo as it were, is awesome. xD

Partial copy-pasta from my LJ (with some edits, as it was posted 2 days ago):
"So my mom called me & we talked for a few hours. That was nice. I always love hearing from her. <3
"Mom told me my grandma's apparently in the hospital; she broke her hip yesterday [the 18th], but, since she's psycho (read: a martyr), didn't go to the doctor until today [the 19th]. She's having surgery on it tomorrow [today], & may go into a nursing home for a few days to recuperate because my grandfather, while we all love him, is a cranky old man and has no patience for that kind of thing."
Fast forward to today: Mom calls me and tells me Grandma apparently had a stroke. She's still alive (thank God), and they took CAT scans and found there's no blood in her brain. . . but she currently can't feel/use her left side.
So. My boyfriend & I are going home for the weekend. Boo such short notice.
But I'm glad my grandma's still alive, at least; as whiny as she can be, I ******** love her to death.
I'm a little bummed because it puts my filming assignment on hold, but family is way more important that school to me.
