Although the Greek music is from Greek period ancient Egypt, it seems- the selections come from the Oxyrhyncus Papyrus collection.^_^

The Oxyrhyncus Papyrus collection is in itself pretty interesting- it seems to have been a burned down library collection, and we've just recently applied new imaging technology to reconstruct the ancient writings from the charred remains. There's quite a variety of texts in there.

Apparently some of them are musical scores. I didn't know that such a thing existed in ancient Egypt.

Musical scores, that is- I knew that they had music.^_~ Anyway, I remember there was quite a fuss about all this a few months back. They're working fast if they already have CDs in libraries with musical re-enactments.

I had pretty high expectations of it when I first listened to it- thought I'd finally have someone demonstrate a range of techniques to use for playing the sistrum.
