There's a guy in my Sociology class and he said that the 'rape is never your fault' adverts are dumb because, in his words 'ITS JUST STUPID TO THINK ITS YOUR FAULT, WHO WOULD BLAME THEMSELVES?'

Rape laws are meant to be changing so its easier for the victim to press charges. However, what they don't realise is this will increase the number of 'fake rape' cases, where the victim claims they were raped for revenge or some such nonsense.

Rape is a very delicate matter. No matter what they do, it will always be either too easy to file false rape charges or too hard to prove a real rape. =/

200% agreed, I really hate when people put even an ounce of blame on the victim. It's never the victim's fault. Yes, there are things you can do to avoid rape, but it's always the rapist's fault for actually raping a woman.

Say I went up to some random guy and started to beat him up. He was walking alone, at night, and he seemed weak and vulnerable and well I just had the urge to kick someone's butt, and he happened to be there at the time. He didn't fight back enough and I managed to beat him up.

Is it his fault I beat him up?

I personnally hate being around smokers, and I think it is a disgusting thing to do, but I see drinking the same, and the scenario described at the start of this thread is indeed horridly hippocritical.
I personnally think that if alcohol is legal, then we should also see mass markets for hallucinogens and pot, because alcohol is worse than both of these. So why are they so taboo? I don't know :S I'm not one to do any drugs, but it doesn't seem sensible that alcohol would be acceptable, while less dangerous drugs aren't.

Hallucinogenics are much worse than alcohol. You don't see things when you're drunk.
Neither do you when you smoke pot.

You could argue that hallucinogens are more dangerous during use, but the risks of overdose or addiction are low compared to alcohol, and hallucinogens have much less long term health consequences (at least as far as we know).

It isn't, but that won't stop him from thinking that he should have defended himself better.
In my very limited experience in this matter, the people who blame the victim the most are the victim themselves, thinking they should have been able to do something.

Personally I don't smoke, but if my friends want to I have no problem with it. I don't mind people smoking at parties either as long as they're outside where's they're good ventilation.

I don't like it when people get all self-righteous and tell me what I should do. So even though I don't smoke I'm not going to talk down to a person who does.

Both alcohol and smoking are equally as bad as one another. The only difference is that the effects of smoking are results of a long term addiction, while the effects of alcohol can come quickly with alcohol poisoning, killing brains cells and the like.

I think that smoking can be fine, given that whoever is smoking understands the future consequences. If they don't really plan on having a future from start, I'd say go ahead. Often those plans change though. I've been trying to quit with the cigarettes recently, a few times actually. There are better things to spend my money on, and I'd get sick pretty quickly if I started rolling my own. I admit that alcohol is dangerous as well, but I drink it anyway. What bothers me is how often people put others in danger because of it. Smoking too I guess, but incidents fueled on the consumption of alcohol tend to be a bit more dramatic.

Just quit smoking and drink less then I used to. Gotta say it feels really good. Awake less groggy sleep better. So many people don't want to quit because of the weight gain. I lost 10 lbs already because I much less without the nicotine cravies and its easier to work out when you're not all wheezy.

I think that smoking and drinking are okay in small doses though. If you want to drink at a party (unless you go to one EVERY SINGLE NIGHT) then do so, but don't get drunk. That just makes you do stupid things and sick the next day.

Smoking, I have to admit, relieves stress like CRAZY. I don't anymore, but I used to once every month or so, if I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
