Andhaka still had some reservations about participating in the hunt rather than simply playing escort, but as taking down their prey would require some amount of strength, rather than speed and precision, he had to concede that he was probably more suited to this than he was to hunting gazelle, at least. Also, just standing by and watching while the lionesses (and Sturm) took on their dangerous quarry seemed wrong. He waited for an opening - he wouldn't want to hear about it later if he fouled up someone else's attempt! - and leapt in to land a blow of his own.


Yes, yes, yes! They were going to do this, and do it now! Uheshe was so excited she could have bounced, but had the poise not to, and instead waited like a coiled spring, tail lashing to and fro. Once it was finally time, she sprang into action, darting in to strike a glancing blow and then darting away again.

Ilanga darted back and forth, seeking an opening in which to attack the hippo. She made a swift dash but her timing was thrown off by the fact that she simply wasn't used to hunting with other lions these days, she did manage to land a glancing blow and she felt warm blood seep betweenr claws, but the wound was barely a scratch, chuffing in frustration she moved back, ready to line up for another attempt.




Sobala had been shadowing her youngest sibling, watching and waiting for the opportune moment to strike. Frustratingly it never came so she made a rash dash forwards, claws lashing out in an attempt to Harry the beast. She was almost surprised when she got in a solid hit, but quickly jumped back as it swung it's massive ugly head round towards her.

"We can do this!" She grinned, looking swiftly around to check where Yimvelo and Koku were.

Uthuli watched as a few more of hunters attacked, each taking a nice swing at their angry prey. From her retreated position in the shallow water of the bank she hissed lowly and pounced, aiming for the backside of the hippo. The fleeting feeling of success rushed through her as she took a sharp stab into the oddly-shaped beast, leaving reminisce of a claw mark in it's hide.

This time she landed in slightly deeper water, splashing briefly before finding her footing in a shallower area, this time remaining close for her next incoming attack...

More lions began to join in the hunt, which spurred Udaka on. She decided to risk hopping up on the back of the hippo this time, digging her claws into its hide while biting at its back. She didn't hold on for very long, though, and jumped off with just a hint of blood in her mouth. Man, that thing had thick skin.

Sturm decided it was time to move a little closer, following the lionesses in. He paused to swipe at the hippo but he wasn't sure just where to hit, or if he might hit a lioness instead. Well...the good news was he didn't hit anything, but the bad news was he completely missed the hippo. Dang it.

Ilanga lined up and tried again, though she paused and looked up, checking to see where Idla had got to. As a result her dash was just slightly off balance and she landed another subpar hit, her claws rebounding off the beast's rubbery rump in a most unsatisfying manner. "Damn it... This is harder than I thought!" She muttered to herself. Shifting round she sought a better attack angle. So far she was proving to be a fairly disgraceful team member..


Sobala grinned as she danced this way and that. This was fun! Scary, but fun too! Dashing forwards she surprised herself by landing a really good hit. Her claws sunk into that grey, thick skin and she left behind several deep furrows. Which swiftly welled up with blood and started to drip down the hippo's flank. Grinning broadly in triumph she shifted back, letting another lioness slip in closer which she regained her breath.

All of this activity seemed to attract the attention of an unwanted guest.


As she was searching for that better angle, one paw landed a little too close to the edge of the water and now Ilanga found her tail in the jaws of a rather hungry looking crocodile who was quickly trying to yank her back towards the water to drown her.
Nearly 15 feet in length, this male nile crocodile is certainly imposing, but at least his jaws are pre-occupied for now.

A sudden splashing behind her made Udaka turn, and she watched in horror was one of the crocs she had been sure wouldn't be around surged from the water to latch on to one of the lioness' tails. Oh no, they weren't losing one of their own to a scaly freak today!

Giving up on the hippo for the time being, she let out a loud roar and smacked the crock on the end of its snout, claws raking over the nose. "Let go!" she snarled.

The commotion caught Sturm's attention and his eyes widened. Whoa! A croc! That was eating tail! Well, not really eating it, just holding on to it. But that tail was attached one of his pride mates, and that wasn't cool!

"Yeah, let her go!" he said as he pounced beside the lioness, following Udaka's example and swatting at his nose. His claws scraped over the same area as Udaka's and he managed to draw a little blood from a tender nostril. Ha, take that!

Dancing back from her first glancing hit at the hippo, Uheshe was preparing to run in again when Ilanga's predicament caught her eye. Really? Couldn't this have just been simple? Almost-equal part annoyed and concerned, the young lioness redirected her attention to the crocodile who was so rudely upsetting their plans (and chomping on Ilanga's tail). The crocodile was a bit more intimidating to her than the hippo, however, and her apprehension led her to only make a quick strike before scurrying away, not wanting to risk the beast turning it's attention on her instead.


Well, hell. Just as he was allowing himself a moment to be pleased that he'd gotten a decent hit in, Andhaka was alerted to greater concerns. A crocodile - and large one at that - had Ilanga by the tail and was dragging her towards the water, no doubt intending to finish her off.

He was going to regret joking about going out in a blaze of glory, wasn't he? The Umholi roared, and rather than run in to swipe at the croc as the lionesses were doing, he leapt at it instead, intending to land on it and bite whatever part of it he could get ahold of in an attempt to force it to let go of the Cinga.

At least it wasn't a hippo.

Uthuli braced herself to pounce on the hippo, eager to dig her claws into that thick skin it seemed to possess when she heard a call of distress in the form of a lioness' roar.

Twisting around and away from the main prey, Uthuli spun to look at the source of the strained noise, a growl readied on her lips in anger at whatever had caused it to begin with. Her eyes did not fail to spot Ilanga struggling in the water, a crocodile clinging to her feet.

"Get off her!" She hissed, and rushed forward to bat a paw at the dangerous creature.

Ilanga had been totally focused on the hippo. The sudden flash of agony in her tail-end dragged an unholy scream from her as the pain lashed up along her spine. Twisting like a madthing she desperatly tried to attack the croc dragging her backwards towards the murky water, and her certain death.

"GETOFFGETOFFGETOFF!" Relief swamped her as her pridemates rushed to her rescue, several of them landing good hits on the croc. Putting all her effort into simply not passing out from the pain, and trying to resist the beast's gradual but persistant movement towards the river, she sank her clws into the muddy back and struggled against it.

With the sudden turn of events and finding itself with multiple lions all attacking it, the crocodile releases Ilanga and her tail! Luckily all she has are some bad bite marks. Ouch. That'll probably leave a scar.

Turning suddenly, it hisses loudly at Yimvelo, who managed to land the hit that released Ilanga from it's powerful jaws. It turns and slides back into the water and out of sight within seconds. The commotion has riled up the hippos now and three of the four are now found on the other side of the water and are now out of the question for changing to hunting one of them instead of the monstrous one they're currently taking on, well, at least not easily now that they know there is a crocodile in the water. Speaking of that monster of a hippo...it's heading right at the hunting party! It seems mad, but at least that means it's a little more reckless! Careful of those tusks though!
You may now resume attacking the hippo!

For dealing with the crocodile so quickly and the panic and adrenaline still pumping, all members of the hunting party have earned a one-time bonus and can double their next hit!
Applies on hit, so if you miss, it doesn't use this up.

Ilanga gasped with relief as she was finally released, scrambling quickly away from the croc and what would have been her watery grave. Pain made it impossibly for her to speak though it didn;t hinder her fury at the crocodile or at her own stupidity! She knew better! And worse still, they had been warned! Incensed by her own carelessness she turned onyl to realise the hippo was not thundering down on them. With a scream of fury and pain, the wounded Cinga launched herself at the lumbering but deadly beast. Sailing high she slamed into its back, claws digging in deep as she scramble dfor a grip long enough to try and sink her fangs intot he thick skin. Finding a fold of flesh where the skin was thinner she savaged the hippo before loosing her grip and jumping clear.


Sobala had been horrified when the croc had gotten alold of the Cinga, and had launched herself at it with her pridemates. But when it snapped at her sister she roared furiously, rushing to Yimvelo's side. Thankfully it retreated and Sobala took a moment to check her sister over for injuries. But swiftly she turned, knowing they were still in the middle of the Hunt. With Ilanga going all 'Mad Crazy Lion' on the beast, Sobala dashed to its flank and scored a good, solid hit. Feeling blood soak her claws with satisfaction.
