I breathed a heavy sigh of relief when Muk fainted. Kefka hadn't taken any damage yet, so he was still in prime condition to take down Scolipede. Keffka wasn't out of danger yet, though - while his Steel typing would help against Scolipede's Poison and Bug moves, it had a few moves of other types that would put Kefka in danger.
Screech, aside from making me hold my ears, gave me an idea. If I could prevent Pain Split with Heal Block... I wanted to push the offensive right away, but I guess I couldn't resist preventing the enemy from gaining an advantage.
"Magic Coat!" I shouted. Kefka reacted immediately, coating himself in Psychic energy that would catch the Normal energy of Screech and bounce it back on Scolipede. While it would leave the Poison/Bug Pokemon with the first strike, it would lower ITS defenses instead, which provide an advantage.if I could capitalize on it.

TerashiLeonGoken "Magic Coat!" I shouted. As the coat of energy appeared around Kefka something strange happened, the horrible Screech Scolipede had let out began to echo and distort causing the centipede to wince and growl out of discomfort as its own attack was turned against it causing its Defense to drop sharply. The crowd went wild for this turn about which strangely enough fused well with the beat Roxie and her band was playing. "Hey, nice one! Now you're finally getting into the rhythm. Tell ya what, you win this and my badge will come with an offer to join my band!" Roxie laughed. "Scolipede, get some revenge, use Stomping Tantrum!" Using its annoyance and anger over its Screech being turned against it the Scolipede would launch its self off the ground with a smack of its hind quarters. Sailing through the air the giant bug would come down on the tiny Fairy and body slam it into the ground. Once there it would begin to smack its back end into the grounded Klefki over and over as it roared angry and threw its fit.

"Sorry, but I'm not much of a musician. Don't have the talent for it," I told Roxie with a shrug, deciding it was best to rip that band-aid off right away. I steeled myself mentally when Roxie gave the order for Stomping Tantrum until I remembered one of Kefka's many useful, if not damage-dealing, moves.
"Kefka, don't stoop to their level but rather rise above it. Use Magnet Rise!" With what I had to assume was a nod, Kefka summoned Electric-type energy suffuse his body, lifing him up farther than Scolipede could reach with his Ground-type move.

As Klefki rose above Scolipede the crowd "oooh'd" over the sudden dodge and neutralization of Scolipede's Ground moves from here on out. Apparently Terashi was starting to get the audience on his side with his tactics. Scolipede however did not find this as amusing, the bug growling upon missing.
"You sure? You're certainly a showman!" Roxie complemented Terashi as she continued to strum away. "That said I can't let you upstage me! Scolipede, use Smart Strike!"
Tired of constantly having their moves neutralized Scolipede would give Klefki a good hard look, trying its best to predict where it would move next and when it might find an opening. When the bug felt like it had the perfect opportunity it would quickly stab at Kefka with its horns, now glowing with Steel energy.

"Don't worry about dodging or deflecting this one, Kefka. You won't be able to," I warned Kefka, the Klefki allowing itself to get hit by Scolipede's Smart Strike. "It looks like now would be a good time to go on the offensive, however. Psychic!"
Taking advantage of Scolipede's close vicinity to him, Kefka let loose a flood of Psychic-type energy, as if trying to wash the giant Poison-type bug away with it. He took a decent amount of damage from Scolipede's Smart Strike, but given that was the first hit he'd taken so far in the match, he still had plenty of fighting spirit.

The Psychic would hit hard and cause the Scolipede to recoil in pain as it took the Super Effective hit. However Roxie knew she couldn't let the gap between them be opened back up again.
"Hold strong and carry on the beat! Use Superpower!" Roxie commanded as she strum her guitar.
With a pained grow Scolipede would summon forth all its might as an aura of Fighting energy manifested around it. The bug would then lunge at Kefka with its Superpowered horns and if that missed it would spin around to smack at it with the lower section of its body and if that missed it would spring up into the air, curl up into a ball, and come down upon the little Fairy in form of a ball intending to crush it. This attack however would leave Scolipede winded.

"Not bad. For as worn out as Scolipede is, it still has an impressive strength," I admitted, turning a critical eye to the Bug-type. "But we can use that to our advantage. Foul Play, Kefka!"
With surprising speed and a helping boost of Dark-type energy, Kefka began dashing around Scolipede, attacking the body parts that it was using to attack with. While Kefka would be damaged by this, it should reflect more damage to Scolipede than it could reasonably take. I wasn't about to claim victory yet, however, believing that to be foolish. I didn't doubt that Roxie still had some trick up her sleeve.

I didn't doubt that Roxie still had some trick up her sleeve. Roxie unfortunately had no other tricks up her sleeve after this. Kefka had just made a mockery of Scolipede's powers and turned them against it with further strength, the giant bug pummeled by the Dark forces Kefka commanded and by the time it was all over Scolipede was reduced to nothing more than a slumbering centipede on the ground after it was knocked out could. "Scolipede is unable to battle! Gym leader Roxie is out of usable Pokemon! Challenger Terashi is the winner!" The gym ref declared as loud as possible, though half the audience probably couldn't hear the man who was already horse from getting up here. While the crowd seemed less interested in the end of the battle and instead focused back on partying, Roxie would leave behind her band as they continued to entertain and approached Terashi with a badge in her hand, presented palm up. "I'll spare you the music lingo for once and instead behave as a gym leader should. I, Roxie of Virbank Gym hereby present to you, Terashi, the Toxic Badge as recognition of your victory over my gym. Congratulations!" She cheered for him. "Also take this, TM Toxic. I'm sure you'll find use for it at some point." [4 Evo Points gained.]

I took the badge and TM humbly, but looked up to Roxie with a smirk. "Thanks for the battle. It was certainly an eye-opener," I said. With that, I withdrew from center stage and followed Keiko out.
"Wow, that was one of your crazier matches. You looked worried when Brunor fainted, but Kefka disabled Roxie so fast that he made it look easy!" Keiko cheered, fully excited by the match that had just transpired.
"Yeah," I said solemly as I fiddled my SNAG. I was happy to have my fourth badge, but I was also worried about the next gym. Given its location, the stakes were going to be even higher. Especially if a certain someone decided to watch in person. Keiko looked over her shoulder at me in concern when she heard my response, but I didn't notice right away. I was preoccupied with switching my team up, replacing Haku with Sparrow, Kefka with Reese, and bringing Samurai back out by replacing Brunor with him.
"What's wrong?" Keiko asked with a pout. I shook my head and pocketed my Snag. "Next one's a doozy," was all I said. When Keiko gave me a confused look, I added "Burgh."
"I don't get it," Keiko said, not placing the man with the location of his gym. "He's a Bug-type specialist, right? You've got plenty of Fire-types."
"It's not his Pokemon I'm worried about," I explained, letting Rala out of her ball. "Castelia, please."
We were standing in front of Castelia City's Pokemon Center before Keiko realized what I meant. "Ooohhh. So you think your mom's gonna watch?" she asked, looking happy about it. "Unless she's busy, probably," I sighed. It was then that Keiko finally got why I was worried and hugged me. "You'll do great, don't worry!"
"It's not that I'm doubting myself," I tried to tell her. I just... hope Burgh doesn't corner me like Roxie almost did."
Of course, as soon as I said that, I heard a very familiar voice in the distance talking about taking a break. I had just enough time to facepalm before Mom made her way to us. "Welcome back, honey. Ready to take on our gym leader?"
I removed my hand from my face before she could see it and, upon hearing that question, flipped my tie so she could see the four badges I'd obtained so far. "Four? Going for the extra credit, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm going for all eleven gym badges in the region, not just the standard eight," I explained. As expected, Mom smiled widely when she heard that. "That's my boy! Come on, I'll show you where the gym is."
A few blocks later, the three of us were standing in front of the door leading to Burgh's gym. I opened the door, allowing Keiko and Mom in first before slipping in myself. "Don't worry, you'll do great!" Mom said as we entered. As expected, I couldn't ever hide my emotions from her. I did smirk when she said that, though, as I was expecting as such from her.

As Terashi and company entered the gym they would be greeted to a largely white room with raw silk everywhere. The floor was covered in as were the walls and ceiling. Ribbons and curtains made of the raw white silk were erratically hung all over the place. Embedded in the thick coating of wall silk were various pieces of artwork painted by the gym leader, though none of them straight, each one of them positioned at some crazy angle.
To those who knew of gym leader Burgh they wouldn't find this decor to be too shocking, the artist was known to be rather eccentric and always thinking up new ways to decorate his gym and changed it up often. In fact it was kind of a tourist attraction, which was further confirmed by all the people in this room walking around and gawking at the painting, some of them playing with the many strings of silk as well. There were several Sewaddle skittering around the walls and ceiling, making sure all the artwork stayed in place after being messed with by the tourists.
"Hello, and welcome to Castelia City gym!" The gym guide enthusiastically greeted Terashi and company. "Don't tell me, you're here to challenge the gym leader, right? I can tell by that look in your eye! And might I dare say you look like a native to this city as well! Can't fool me!" The man said with a laugh. "Any who, if you want to face the gym leader just head over to that cocoon in the far back of the room, the one with the Galvantula guarding it. He's making sure only challengers pass through. Just show it a badge or your trainer card and it will let you by. Be careful though, you'll have to slide down a rope of silk to get to the battlefield below. You know Burgh, always making up some crazy new thing!" The guide laughed.

"i'm gonna need to change clothes after this gym," I muttered as we made our way in to the gym. I was a bit surprise to hear my mom giggle at that thought, though. "What?"
"Nothing," she replied, shaking her head. "That just sounds like something your father would say."
"He wouldn't be wrong," Keiko cringed, pushing herself to a standing position after having slipped on the smooth silk of the floor. "This place is kinda gross."
"Well, I'll try to make it quick, then," I told Keiko, only to get another giggle from Mom. I just shook my head, this time. Gimme a break.
Once the guide welcomed us and my mother confirmed that yes, I was raised in this city, we made our way to Burgh's pit, making sure to show the guardian Galvantula my badges up to this point. The three of us gawked at the single strand of silk I was expected to slide down on. "This... doesn't look safe,"
"Well, it was made by a Gym Leader, so it probably isn't DESIGNED to injure people. Still, wish me luck, just in case," I retorted, jumping down and grabbing the silk rope before any of them had time to respond to my quip. It took a bit of swinging, but by the time I had almost reached the bottom, I was able to jump from it and land on my feet without hurting myself. With that, I stood up and looked at Burgh, instinctively reaching for one of the Pokeballs on my belt.

Once Terashi entered the underground chamber he would find himself in a dimly lit circular room that was less of a 'battlefield' and more of a green house. The recessed lighting in the ceiling was just enough to make the entire room barely visible, like something you would expect in a bar, and just enough to keep all these plants alive. The floor its self was covered in tall grass and there were numerous trees dotting the field without any real thought out placement. On the trees and running between them was more strands of silk and even a few large spiderwebs built between branches. It would look like a typical Ariados or Galvantula den except there was random splatters of paint everywhere and the walls themselves were actually built out of honeycomb, complete with nutritious honey filly the combs. Burgh honestly went overboard with his art but all in all as far as Terashi could see it looked like he was just going to be battling in a simulated forest, though certain these webs, silk, and trees are placed to the leader's advantage so that was something to keep in mind.
"Greetings, challenger!" Burgh declared as he knelt on the floor, a shroud made of raw silk draped over him and his head held down. "Come to challenge my critters have you?" He declared dramatically as he shot up straight and cast off the shroud with a flourish, Burgh always being one for flamboyance and flare. "My bug Pokémon are scurrying with excitement about getting to battle you. Let's get straight to it!" He proclaimed and without delay tossed out a Net Ball, the device popping open to send out a net onto the ground which would then be snatched back into the ball, leaving behind a Dwebble, which really just looked like a medium size rock, barely poking out of the tall grass.
"Do not underestimate my little critters, you'll find they are more crafty than they look. Like my art, they hold hidden meaning and power." Burgh said, flicking his hair back dramatically.

I took one look at Dwebble and knew who to send out against it. "Considering we met in this city, it'd be wrong to not include you in this fight. So come on out, Samurai!" I shouted, letting my Dewott out of his ball.
"Good luck!" I heard form above. I smirked, but didn't turn my head. Like all Gym Leaders, I couldn't take Burgh lightly, so I had to focus on the fight ahead, and so did Samurai. Speaking of, "Use Focus Energy to start with," I ordered. Samurai responded by focusing the Normal-type energy in his body, which would make some of his attacks stronger depending on the situation. It would also help his mind focus on the looming battle, which would help, as Samurai had a slight tendency to act on his own otherwise.

"Oh! Refining your technique? Excellent! An artist must always gather inspiration first before they take to the canvas. We however prefer to let the muses take us. Dwebble, Rock Polish!" Burgh declared, throwing his arms out flamboyantly with the command.
The Dwebble would poke its head out of its rock and just slightly above the tall grass and with its claws giving off a faint glow it went wild on its rock shell. The action was so wild and quick that Terashi couldn't make out what exactly what it was doing until it was finished, the Dwebble recalling back into the rock upon completion. The results of the Rock Polish was a smooth and slick sculpture of a Pokeball, complete with the etching for the line around it and the button. Apparently Burgh's Pokemon had artistic talent as well. At least its rock shell was more arrow dynamic and lighter now.

I was well aware of what Rock Polish did, and I wasn't about to give Burgh that advantage. "Don't let Dwebble outspeed you, Samurai! Aqua Jet!" I ordered Samurai used his energy to gather water around him before lunging forward in a crash course with the Rock-type, planning to either go through or bounce off of it.
