✧ Designer: Detrimentum
✧ Model: Eryn
✧ Challenge: #10 - Death Becomes Her
✧ Outift Title: Death in a Glass
✧ Description:

Quote:
Eryn went to a party, dressed up in her newest and most beautiful gown. She took a big sip of her wine and... the glass fell out of her hand. She quickly got out of her chair and backed off a bit. Then she coughed blood. "This is it." she thought as she covered her mouth.

I got so attached to Eryn that picking a way for her to die was hard. Choosing a befitting and fashionable death took me quite a while and I went through so many ideas... I opted to go with the tried and true poison!

Eryn is wearing a gown made out of three parts; a short dress, a long underskirt and a golden chestpiece. Thanks to my mixing of these parts, it looks like a cohesive one-piece gown. She's holding s a long shawl that's sprawling across the floor. On her head golden headband with green and blue feathers. Her makeup is kept rather simple: she's wearing some eyeshadow and eyeliner, and she has additional blushing, but the most important part is the shadow covering half of her face. The shadow makes her look like she's in shock and panic. And of course, some blood pooling out of her lips, which she is covering with her palms.

Background-wise, I chose a parlour in elegant off-chrome colours decorated with golden plants. I thought it was a great mix of colours on Eryn (black hair, light skin, golden accessories) and it allowed her gown's colours to pop! I've also added a little filter that made the bottom of the scene darker, for the mood, and lights appear at the top to make everything around Eryn glow.

Challenge 10: Death Becomes Her
Designer: excites // Status: Complete
Model: Serena // Title: Mass Media
User Image
Description: "Five young women killed in the shopping district near Project road and Catwalk boulevard. Police say they are still looking into possible motives and that the shooter is still at large."

In this aerial view photoshoot, Serena is portraying a young fashionista that has just been gunned down in a mass shooting. Just trying to show off her new outfit to the public and her peers, she meets her untimely demise. As she lie there on the cold floor drifting off she remembers how good her outfit looked and dies with a smile on her face.

Mass shootings have become so prevalent in America that I felt this would be such a likely way to meet one's passing unfortunately. Sadly because of how often shootings/ gun violence happens, it's always on the news or in the media. As I'm typing this America has had 477 gun related incidents this year- with the most recent one being just today.

For the shoot I had Serena lie in a position she didn't have to think too much about- a lifeless pose. I used lighting and faint cloud like fog behind her to portray life fading away and small light particles to add a feel of the still that happens when the world around you becomes insignificant and there is only memories. For the look I have Serena dressed in browns, creams, and blacks. An open-sleeve top, with lace trim on the collar and an under bust belt. She's wearing a brown skirt with black ribbon, socks with lace trim to accent her top, and black ribbon sandals. A black bow with gold accent to match the accents on her shirt sleeves, purse, and shoe soles. She's closing her eyes crying while red shades of paint act as bullet wounds to her chest and head and blood splatters.

Designer's Note: I am so sorry if using this heavy of a topic as a theme seemed insensitive. Honestly when I first read the theme description, this was the first way of dying I thought of because it's a huge fear of mine. So I decided to turn that fear into inspiration. My heart goes out to any and all of those who have lost a loved one or friend to gun violence.
Site I used for gun violence stats here.

BRANDIE
starring in
Final Curtain Call
Status: Complete

User Image

Description:

For this challenge, I had so many exciting ideas that it was hard for me to narrow down exactly how I wanted to plan Brandie's demise.
That sounds grim, right? I knew that Brandie's death had to be bloody, violent, but most of all: fabulous.

With that being said, Brandie was having an excellent time filling in for a different magician's assistant when suddenly the star of the main act lashed out and took a bite of Brandie during the show! He even ate the whole entire magician himself; all that's left of him is his hat!
You know what they say in show business, however -- the show must go on. Brandie is nothing if not dedicated to her craft, so that when the curtains closed that night, so too did they close on Brandie's "final act". She will surely be remembered by the lion as the most delicious snack he had, and as the most marvelous performer to ever grace the stage.

~~~
I chose the stage background because, well, THE NARRATIVE REQUIRES IT! Haha, no, but really -- the stage background I found was actually different from the one I was originally going to use, but since I wanted to use the arm mod from the same item, I didn't want to double-dip so to speak. Everything worked out perfectly!
The spotlight from the background also helps create a soft vignette so you can still see all the details of Brandie's ensemble! If you look closely, I've layered beautiful burgundy and gold tops/skirts; I really hope the size of the image doesn't take away from the level of detail there! The cape I found really finished Brandie's outfit and brought it all together. It was actually the final thing I equipped before submitting!
The foundation of Brandie's outfit itself is derived from the top hat that the lion has taken between his front paws. It's clearly a magician's hat, so there was the premise! From there, my ADHD brain basically told me "hold my beer" and took it from there lol.
I'm honored to have made it this far, and I hope you enjoyed my entry!
Challenge #10: Death Becomes Her
Designers, do you ever think about dying? From true crime
podcasts and police procedurals to classic who-done-its and sexy masked
killers, death is all around us. We want you to think about all of that and
tell us how your model dies. Show us the scene of her demise! How did
it happen? Who did it to her? It's up to you to tell us. Be bold though, as
you are our final four designers our expectations are high. But remember,
these models would never be caught looking unfashionable. Keep them
looking good, even in death.
Model: Raine
Outfit Title:
Last Gig
User Image
Description:
The story
Did you know? Raine is not only a model, but also an aspiring actress. She was recently hired at a murder mystery hotel with a Victorian setting. She was filled with excitement as she love mysteries, but she wasn't the only one excited everyone was as it is the grand opening weekend of the hotel! Everything was going great until someone shouted, "FIRE!!" Nobody knows how or where it started, could have been in the kitchen, an oil lamp lit incorrectly, a lit cigarette discarded, or maybe someone set the fire on purpose. Who knows, but once the shouting started and the fire became visible panic unleased. Everyone was running to get out. Raine got pushed around until she tripped and hit her forehead hard. The hit knocked her out for a couple minutes and when she came around she was drowse, she crawled around moving away from the heat calling for help. Once her head cleared she realized she was alone, bleeding, and the flames had grown. She managed to stand up and go to balcony doors closest to her, she open the doors only to find a fiery inferno outside as well. She leaned over to look for help or a clear route, but her hair caught fire! Wait, not her hair, the flowers ornaments placed in her hair caught fire burning instantly spreading the fire to her hair! Looks like the fake flower were made from flammable material. She noticed her dress was on fire as well. It was at this point, looking around surround by fire that Raine knew this was her end, her last gig.
My commentary
Okay, so I felt overall a bit lost with this theme to be honest, i didn't know how to kill her. For some reason my mind focused on death by natural disasters. (fire, earthquakes, drowning, etc.) I settled on fire because of the burnt flowers, they just go perfectly with Raine's hair flow a bit droopy looking too. With fire there is panic, struggle, soot and burns, while adding those elements this story started to take form in my head. I had a hard time finding a tattered clothing and/or burnt clothing to emphases a struggle and lucky both were found! Originally her outfit was more historically accurate but I had to make changes to that. I traded boots for a bare leg and heels because of layering issues. Balloon sleeves for long gloves to cover her smile/lips/month also she looks more desperate and dramatic with these arms. There were a few other arms that ideally would have been better for what I was going for (completely covered mouth) unfortunately they didn't layer with her hair right. Because of these inaccuracies I liked the idea of a murder mystery gig gone wrong.
I included a bigger picture so you can see the details.
Thanks for the help The Clot Thickens!
Challenge #10: Death Becomes Her
Feedback
BloodAngel95 — Raine
• You impressed the judges with the creativity of this death interpretation.
The dress is pretty, and the silhouette of it is stunning, but the main highlights
of this entry is the storytelling in the description and the portrayal of this
death scenario. One judge was living for your entry for this death challenge,
to the point you received a near-perfect score from them.
• The burning flowers received mixed reviews from the judges. While some
felt they occupied too much visual space, while others found them intriguing.
Despite this critique, it was the only negative feedback given, which doesn't
diminish how amazing this look truly is.
Detrimentum — Eryn
• The judges unanimously agreed that this dress you put on Eryn is stunning,
and one of the prettiest garments we've seen on Eryn. The color scheme is
beautiful on her. The background choice adds so much to the narrative
and aesthetic, and the filter over Eryn's eyes is a smart touch.
• The shadow mods you used effectively convey shock, but it stops there.
Eryn appears more mortified than like she's in real danger, which lessens the
impact of her supposed death. The judges wish that your entry aligned better
with the theme of death.
Princess Warfare — Brandie
• Style-wise, probably the most gorgeous outfit we've seen from you.
The dress is beautifully constructed and looks like one solid piece rather than
three separate items and we admire that. Something about the color scheme
that just looks so right on Brandie.
• Death by lion mauling is creative, but the death was portrayed a tad too
pretty, given the challenge prompt. Brandie doesn't look like she's dying or
struggling. The judges needed to see agony and pain. Brandie should look
closer to death, like her fellow models Luz and Serena.
FaithEmblem — Luz
• The judges love the reds in Luz's outfit. The gradient of red in her outfit
conveys the idea of blood well. Luz’s pose effectively shows her struggle,
giving off a "bloody office siren" vibe. You thought about making it disheveled,
and it shows.
• This entry is a strong start, but her sweet face doesn't match the look.
If her glasses were askew, it might make her appear more dazed.
The styling feels a bit too simple compared to others. At this stage, it just
doesn’t stand out enough. It’s a good look, but not quite there yet.
excites — Serena
• If this entry doesn't read death, we don't know what will. The excessive
amount of blood and violence, yet keeping Serena stylish, is such a feat. The
judges commend you for tackling such a difficult and bold topic and facing
one of your fears. This is also the best description you've given us yet.
• The blood on the front makes it hard to see the outfit - if the outfit had been
built with colors that weren't shades of cream, we can see the outfit better.
But the main thing that dragged you down was that you changed Serena's
eyes, which is against the body mod rules, which affected your scores
significantly.
The Fashion Line
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Each finalist will create a theme within their brand, and build five (5) outfits that represent that motif throughout.
The theme can truly be anything. However, it must represent the Designer in a significant way, and the outfits
themselves must tie into each other somehow. In this final test, the Judges are looking for signature style and
cohesion — the Designer's own personal, preferred design aesthetic being properly featured. In other words,
this final entry shouldn't showcase anything new or adventurous, but instead, embrace whatever brand the
Designer has established for themselves throughout the cycle. So long as there is brand recognition, and
commonality between their works of art, they can consider their fashion education complete.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Designers' Model line-up will consist of three eliminated PC5 Models, plus their own Model, and
each delegated Model must be present in the fashion line, with outfits catered to their base traits. For
your fifth model you have all been assigned the same model from cycle 3: Stella This is a switch up
from previous finales, and we hope you enjoy the change!
The collection will be judged both individually and collectively. How well each look is styled, how creatively
they're tailored to the Model, how well the outfits fit into the fashion line, how much overall brand recognition
there is, and how well the description captures the collection, and the cycle as a whole.
All five design photos must be submitted within the same masterfully crafted post, and include:
Fashion Line Title, Designer Name, Model Name, Alt Models' Names, Description, and Entry Status.
With the description, it is highly recommended that each finalist take the liberty to introduce themselves
and their brand, explain their chosen theme and any muses, touch on motif evidence with a few sentences
per outfit, and finally, end with a couple of words to commemorate their Project Catwalk experience.
It's the Designer's last chance to plead their case as to why they should be King or Queen of the Catwalk!
STATUS: COMPLETE 100%
Without further adieu, I present to you:
Cirque du Lola
a Princess Warfare Production
I'm Lola!
HOWDY!
I'm a professional goofball extraordinaire! But in all seriousness, I'm a 4th degree black belt in taekwondo, and I am a full-time martial artist. It's weird that I'm able to say that, because I can't believe that's my career! I'm very much a "what you see is what you get" kind of gal, but there's also a lot that no one sees. I hope I can crack open the walnut that is my personality a little more for you today, so you can see how much fun I am! Or, just talk to me for like 4 minutes and you basically experience all the dialogue options in that time span... blaugh
I've created, for you, a delightful little look at all 6 5 of my remaining brain cells!
I've written up and scrapped SO many ideas for this final challenge, and I can't believe we're finally here! I was originally inspired by Grimes' lore behind one of her albums, Art Angels (released in 2015). Her "Art Angels" are characters ranging from the crime lord of an underground vampire gang to "Rococo Basilisk", a Victorian gown-wearing aristocrat in a purple beehive wig. She really has every base covered, there! Truthfully, I bit off more than I could chew at first! I had plans for interdimensional bounty hunters, computer viruses personified as humanoid cyborgs -- I was doing WAY too much. The neurons were firing just a tad quick on the draw, so I scrapped all of that and started over with choosing the foundation. I chose the background, Cosmic Cloud, just so I'd at least have some semblance of cohesion amongst my line.
You will notice that 3 out of 5 of my entries have the 'Celes' background item, and the two that are without it are intentionally left without it. I wanted to have several different cohesive links among all my designs. For Stella and Amira whose designs are without the cute planetary doodles behind them, I wanted their silhouettes to be highlighted in a way that the doodles, I felt, took away from. It's intentional, I promise!
I wanted to glam up the idea of jesters wearing armored plate with fancy gowns and outfits. I even threw some pants in there, because I'm an all-terrain-individual, so I would want a pants option for myself irl.
And then, the reference to my title: Cirque du Lola...
I've incorporated some clown-ish accoutrements to my entries, because I'm really just a bunch of clowns in a clown car shaped like a human being... Or, it feels like it, at least!
I'm honored to have made it this far, and this competition has helped me really parse each individual piece of my designs while balancing those with the overall shape of each outfit. I'm so endlessly grateful to be here with y'all, doing what I LOVED doing since 2007 (when I first joined Gaia!) which is being a dork on the internet expressing myself with these ornate avatars with all my dorky little friends, which in this case is all of YOU! And I love each and every one of you heart
INDIVIDUAL DESCRIPTIONS:
Brandie:
Was I listening to the Bangles' all-time hit Walk Like an Egyptian while designing this? YEP! I am in love with the cowl's pattern, adding so much fun amidst a somewhat chaotic background.
Coming out the gate with Brandie's design, I truly didn't expect it to captivate me the way it did when I was solidifying her look. The patterns, the teal, the gold... I added the cards/background as a call-back to the theme, because who doesn't love sleight-of-hand at the circus?
Shout-out to the Oasis color scheme coming in clutch for this project, because there's a LOT of different shades of teal on here! I think I did Brandie proud in this cycle, and she's been a real ride-or-die every single week!
Raven:
For this look, lace was speaking to me, and so I crafted this armored bodysuit that contours to Raven's body. The lace seemingly drips over Raven, a skin-tight and ethereal detail that I'm obsessed with. She carries her spectral scythe behind her, her bustle and skirts layered from her hips down. The overall shape this gives to her really captures a sort of darker, necromancer-inspired persona. I hope the hemline of the skirts really reminds you of bat wings, because that's my intention! sweatdrop
Amira:
I love the front as much as I love the back of this design! The wings are clock hands, and the jagged shape of said wings are the most beautiful poetic compliment to her overall feminine and soft composition. She's the one with the long gown! I felt that she didn't need any extra background shapes -- I love love LOVE the sleeves so much, they're really the centerpiece of this look in my opinion.
Serena:
I love the shadows created by her hat, and paired with the sunglasses -- I love the attitude this evokes, which subtly adds depth to the design itself. I added a little ruffled collar to add to the circus theme! She's DEFINITELY the ringleader in this circus, in my mind.
I loved finding ways to layer each garment on Serena, especially with this color scheme. She's hoisting her banner with these large hovering blades at the ready beside her. She's ready for the show to go on, whatever that may entail! I wish the cape would've layered better from the back, but at least you can see each individual accessory -- I can't make it layer any differently, so I'm hoping that won't be deducted from my scores.
Stella:
I immediately looked up the "natural" color scheme, with lots of brown, gold, and kirin green. Then, of course, the Avatar Builder took a dump on all of my progress, so I was forced to start from scratch once again the morning of the 28th.
I actually love what I created the second go-around; she has a dress AND pants! That's what I call the best of both worlds. I don't know why everything ends up coming back to having pants, but I'm loving this energy I'm forcing upon you in the studio today.
She's giving Joan of Ark, and I'm here for that as well. I wanted to balance out her silhouette with the fur cowl, as well as give her a little protection from the elements. Her original design was very druid-inspired, and I think the same essence carried through in version 2!
The Garden of Mystery
By Bloodangel95
User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image
Main Model: Raine Alt Models': Kiara, Tessa, Eunwoo, Stella
Description
I don't know about you but my favorite outfit that I created this cycle was Week 4's Bird of Paradise entry. I knew if a made to the finally I wanted to create more avi's representing flowers. I love flowers, and wherever I go I make sure to take time to look at them. I draw them more than growing them, because unfortunately, I didn't inherited my mother's green thumb. The hard part was deciding what type of flowers each model to be. Searching flowers I stumble upon a list of black flowers that was just inspirational! I would love to see each and every one in person some day. Most of the flowers aren't truly black, but a variety of dark colors, which worked perfectly for me to create each look. As I was working on creating outfits based on the flowers, I decided for the background I obviously wanted a garden, but not an ordinary garden. A garden that embraces black flowers. a garden filled with mystery. I love reading and am constantly reading in one shape or form, it's a part of who I am. I mostly read mystery and fantasy novels, but I love reading all kinds of genres. With my flowers girls I created a garden, a garden that tells a story. I wrote part of the story I wanted to tell with these looks, but I realized it was going to be way too long to include it with my commentary on the looks. So instead I will just walk you through my vision and hope your able to fill in the gaps in your mind to create a story.
The story
In this garden guest can bump into each one of the girls exploring the garden, however, once you bump into one, a trial of sorts will happen to determine whether you make it out of the garden. Pass all the trials to get to the castle where you can enjoy food of all types and just relax.
Raine, "black" Dahlia
User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The story
If you visit the garden once the sun sets, you may stumble upon Raine at the entrance. If you do see her, don't be blinded by her beauty. Being distracted will cost you, you wont see the fog that all of sudden forms distorting your view of the path. Taking the wrong turn may lead you to the edge of a cliff, the thicker part of the woods, or to the graveyard.
My commentary
I went with a black dahlia for Raine simply because the color scheme sauvignon is becoming a favorite of mine. Because Raine is my main model she had to wear that color, a color between burgundy and maroon, a color that closely matched a black Dahlia. Raine had to have a crown that distinguished her as the leader. A full ballroom dress with many layers just like a black dahlia with many petals was key, so I tried to add as many as I could mange. I place her at the front gate because as the main I see her as the host who greets you at the front door welcoming you.
Kiara, Bearded Iris "Blackwater"
User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The story
From the fog you could of end up at the graveyard were Kiara is dancing. Dancing with her, means dancing until your dead, why do you thinking there are so many graves around her? You have to make your way around her and into the forest. Beware of the glimmering sparkles they too can enchant you to stay.
My commentary
The color scheme that I thought best matched this flower was byzantium. Look through the item available this shawl with such a flowy pose was perfect for an iris whose petals flop down. It also made me think of a dancer and Kiara gave me a dancer vibe so I went with it. An iris petal end are a bit ruffled so a ruffle skirt/dress was ideal. The rose headband added to a dancer stage outfit vibe and it also looked like ruffled headband to me. The graveyard setting in the middle of a woodland garden for Kiara was a random choice but it worked into my story just fine.
Tessa, Pansy "Black Beauty"
User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The story
When lost people tend to follow what they know, or rather what they hear. Following the sound of water may lead you to finding Tessa stand on murky shallow water. It a trick because the water may seem shallow but it isn't. Your best bet to get across the lake is to cross the bridge however far it may be. Not only that, for it may be tempting to take a lantern to guide your way in the garden, taking one entraps you in her thorny vines.
My commentary
Tessa looks best in bright colors, a black flower with bright yellow center was perfect for her. One of the first items I settled for Tessa was the hat, I don't know why but I loved how it looked on her. Her joyful expression with the hat on gave a younger girl looking through her grandmother wardrobe vibe. The black dress with hint of yellow is a very modern girl outfit that likes to mix clothing eras. I added the the fan to match a vintage modern look. With the hat and fan I got southern vibe from what I seen in old shows and movies and thought of a swamp, but instead of going with a swamp I went with a lake for her setting.
Eunwoo, Hyacinth "Midnight Mystic"
User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The story
In the garden there was once a beautiful gazebo made of stone where people could sit down and drink tea while enjoying the roses; however, at some point it was destroyed and only remnants of the pillars still stand. Once you come across it, you may find Eunwoo drinking tea there. You'll be tempted to join her, but be careful for the tea may or may not be poisoned. Oh and one last thing, she make look to have a calm demeanor, but she is far from calm. One wrong move may set off her rage!
My commentary
With the name Eunwoo I wanted an Asian looking avi, but unfortunately with the color scheme drachen my option were quite limited. This purple black flower I found can also look like blue depending on the lighting. Which made me think of the Drachen scheme that is purple blue. Eunwoo dress had to be a long close fitted gown with how a Hyacinth blooms, long shaped with multiple flowers close together. An Asian hat/headdress was what found. I made it look like an eoyeo meori hair style for Eunwoo but it bit more modernized with her hair sticking out and more decorated with floral ornaments.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
For her setting I added smoke to be like an incense. Eunwoo looks gave me a calm person personality, but even a calm looking person can get mad. I added the looming clouds with a bit of red to symbolize her rage, even when her face and body language is calm. The tea table gets magical spilled if you anger her.
Stella, Tulip "Queen of Night"
User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The story
Now there is a part of the garden where so many different variety of flowers grow you can't tell where your heading all you see is flower after flower around you. Stumbling upon this part of the garden means you are truly lost in the garden. If your lucky you may run into Stella. Stella is a kind girl willing to help anyone lost in the garden; however, she is limited in how she can help you. Just hope that you are smart enough to read in between the lines.
My commentary
For Stella I was quite worried. I thought that her bright orange hair didn't really fit with my theme of black flowers. I found that burgundy wine color in the black doris was perfect for this flower and it didn't look too bad on her. The hints of magenta worked as well with her youthful appearance. I surrounded her many different flowers because at this point the story of the garden of mystery was well established in my mind. I wanted her to be the one helpful guide. The one who stands out the most, but tries her best to fit in. In fact Stella infiltrated this mystical garden, she is the one human among the bunch! I'll leave you to guess what the others are. Lastly did you notice the approaching rain storm starting with Tessa? I meant for the guest of the garden to come across each one of them in order in their journey to the castle.
Now finally this is the end. I loved working on each entry throughout the cycle. Once I changed my model I kept thinking I made a bad choice and will be eliminated but overall I don't regret my choice. Entering this competition really made me think about what my style is. I love period pieces, creating outdoor scenes, and even when I don't know exactly what direction I am heading in, sometimes I get a good story. I love and feared receiving the feedback, because it made me look constructively at my creations, even when sometimes I still didn't agree with it. I appreciate it. Thank you judges, mentors, and contestants for the wonderful experience!
Hi everyone! I can't believe we're already at the finals of PC5; I feel like the time is zooming by! Project Catwalk has been such an interesting experience, and it made me use up all my creative juices. It was truly an honour to be able to participate in two PCs and be picked to be one of the finalists for this round.
You may know me as Detrimentum or Detri. I'm a woman who lives in Poland and loves pretty dresses and creating characters. Whenever I make an outfit, I try to make it tell a story or be somewhat symbolic. But there are other things I adore as well, such as art and, more importantly, nature!
This is why my line is based on the kingdom of fungi. I think mushrooms are genuinely beautiful, and some of them look so alien-like. It's amazing how they're such weird organisms. Even though many people think of them as plants, they're closer to animals than to plants. If you ever look up macro photography of fungi, you won't believe how they look. Most of them seem like fake pictures or fantasy paintings of weird trees.
All models are wearing beautiful semi-fantasy outfits, mostly dresses, and this time I decided not to use any backgrounds and to focus on their outfits. I only added some effects for more of a mystical feeling. When picking mushrooms for my models, I tried to pick some rare and less well-known species that differ from each other but also suit specific models' appearances and how I imagine their personalities.
Without further ado, I present to you: The Fungi Fantasia
Devil's Fingers Fungus
For my beloved Eryn, I created an edgy design inspired by the spooky Clathrus archeri. The fungus felt like the perfect fit for her rebellious, punkish attitude. Based on the fungus, I've dressed her from head to toe in deep crimson with black accents. Eryn stands out from the other models—her clothes are slightly tattered, and I've added a few thorn-like details. Naturally, she has horns and claws, a nod to the fungus's name.
Her makeup is heavy and deliberately smudged, adding to her rebellious aura. Behind her, a dark smoke cloud billows, symbolizing the eerie and unsettling nature of Clathrus archeri, which, when mature, emits a smell reminiscent of decaying flesh.
Podoserpula Pusio
The fungus I chose for Jaylyn is the Podoserpula pusio, sometimes called the Pagoda Fungus. It's a fungus that produces flat, tiered caps resembling a pagoda, which inspired its name. It's mostly yellow-orange with touches of white, so Jaylyn's outfit incorporates these colours. I used a base of white with yellow accents, complemented by orange accessories and effects.
When designing her look, I aimed to capture the essence of the mushroom. Her skirt features multiple tiered layers, similar to the pagoda-like structure, while her makeup blends orange and yellow for a striking effect. Other elements of her design were mostly my creative liberty, as there isn't much detailed information about the fungus itself. Despite this, I believe Jaylyn embodies the spirit of the Podoserpula pusio beautifully.
Cystolepiota
Cystolepiota is one of my favourite mushrooms—they look so fluffy and soft, almost like feathers. They remind me of birds and angels. However, the fungi's "fluffiness" is actually just a layer of powder and spores. The mushroom is predominantly white but develops brown hues as it ages.
Thus for Cheska, I decided to embody that angelic influence. She wears a pure white short dress with puffy sleeves, a long, feather-like bustle, and a gold crown adorned with white flowers. Her makeup is soft and delicate, with subtle gold accents to enhance her radiant look. As for her effect, falling feathers felt like the perfect choice. To heighten the ethereal vibe, I also added glowing lights that complement her angelic aesthetic.
Violet Coral Fungus
Clavaria zollingeri is a rare coral-like fungus with stunning purple-to-pink hues, evoking the beauty of the sea—perfect for Luz! Her outfit features a bodice with a seashell bra paired with a short skirt and a flowing bustle. Coral-shaped antlers on her head emphasize the oceanic theme, while her jewellery—purple circlet, crown, bangles, and necklace—adds a regal touch. She goes barefoot, staying true to the underwater aesthetic.
Luz’s makeup is delicate, blending pink tones with purple eyeshadow, accented by sparkling highlights near her eyes. To complete the magical look, she’s surrounded by effects that bring the aquatic world to life: corals, seashells, bubbles, and swimming fish. Her design captures the ethereal essence of the violet coral fungus with elegance and fantasy.
Elegant Blue Webcap Mushroom
Cortinarius rotundisporus is a steely blue mushroom with a yellowish cap, evoking the magic and mystery of the night sky—an ideal inspiration for Stella. Her golden hair and name fit this celestial vision perfectly.
Stella’s look features a steel-blue short dress with a flowing, starry cape. Gold and silver jewellery—bracelets, necklaces, and thigh chains—add elegance, while golden shoes with star motifs and white jewels complete her ensemble. A solar-shaped circlet crowns her head, and strings of white stars decorate her hair. Her natural makeup sparkles with white glitter and tiny golden face jewels. Golden celestial symbols, sparkles, moons, and zodiac signs surround her, creating a luminous, night-sky aesthetic that embodies cosmic magic.
Finale Thoughts!
Princess Warfare — Brandie:
Love, you delivered a fantastic finale collection! I really hope you're proud of yourself for this
collection and all you've done the entire cycle. Your attention to detail has improved, as has
your creativity. And that was on display in abundance here. Maybe even a little too much
creativity with this finale, which you mentioned with all the different inspirations. But you
managed to pull together a cohesive look with a great variety of colors and shapes, but still
have their own distinct flares. You made a lot of decisions that were very clever with your looks.
I like that you gave us cohesive backgrounds without all being a perfect match to each other.
That isn't something that always works out, but for this collection it for sure paid off! And kudos
on using different poses and so many different clothes and items to build the looks.
The standout looks for me were Brandie and Amira, the color schemes you chose for them
could not have been better. Over all in this collection I don't get a whole lot of the clown
influence? Though I always love a good cirque. Brandie's floating card element were the
best in selling that vision. I also think that Amira is the kind of queen that countries would go
to war over. This finale collection was impactful and a great way to end the cycle. I've loved
seeing you work through the different challenges, and I appreciate your constant upbeat attitude.
You and your descriptions have always brought a smile to my face. heart
Detrimentum — Eryn:
Lovely, this was a PHENOMENAL collection! And it got me into a little bit of trouble with a coworker,
haha! I got to work Saturday after I'd been looking at your collection, and she tells me a joke. How
much space does a fungi need to party? He needs mushroom. And she was real disappointed I
guessed the punchline. But it was worth it. I feel so much more educated about mushrooms after
this! I love the variety of fungi you chose for this collection, and paired them very flatteringly with
the models. I think my favorite aspect of your collection is the way you matched the shape of the
looks to the shapes of the mushrooms. Big details and small were all present in the looks, and I
love that I could tell there was mushroom influence independent from the description. Which on
the note of the descriptions? They were perfect from top to bottom.
I really love that Eryn is Devil's Fingers, that you stuck with her punk vibes that you've given her
the entire cycle. You've made Eryn feel so real, and I love that. Stella looks stunning but I think it's
the wrong shade of blue for the mushroom. But at this stage you all make us pick at the tiniest things
to make our decisions. You should be so proud of your work this cycle, you more than earned your
spot in the finale and you left us speechless. Thank you for making this cycle such a delight and
elevating your designs constantly. Your avi is always one I'm excited to see when you change it,
and I can't wait to see more from you. heart
BloodAngel95 — Raine:
I've always loved flowers, and had a particular fondest for deadly ones and the general darker
side of fauna, so I was delighted to see your dark garden theme! And having had a fascination
with the Black Dahlia murder since I was in middle school, starting off with that out the gate for
Raine had me HOOKED and SEATED for the entire collection. These might be some of the best
descriptions you've given us yet, and your cycle has some of the best cohesion of the different
collections. I also think you were the most successful in working with Stella, the burgundy color
is soooo flattering on her! I also can't stop looking at Kiara and the shape of her look that you got
to perfectly mimic the flower. A couple of the designs - like Eunwoo - have maybe a bit much going
on? Some of the details just started to distract from the flower.
But like I've said above, and will say time and time again, at this point in the cycle we are nitpicking
at the tiniest things. This is an amazing collection, and you were super clever with which flower you
paired with which model. And I think this is also some of the best make up work! It has been a delight
watching your work throughout the cycle, and I'm so proud of you making it this far. Thank you, truly,
for all you've done. heart
My Finale Thoughts
(Flames' Version)
Congratulations to my final 3 designers for making it to the cycle's end! emotion_bigheart
You've faced tough competition throughout the cycle, yet the three of you
came out unscathed and made it all the way. Knowing each of
you, you've shown immense growth in such a short timeframe, proving why
you deserve your place in the finals.
Princess Warfare, Detrimentum, and BloodAngel95,
I am so proud of you for what you've achieved throughout the cycle. emotion_bigheart
The time for me to pick a winner is nearing, here is my final feedback
to you three:
Princess Warfare — Brandie:
My dear Princess, from an early out, and now a finalist. In each
challenge, you've consistently shown us that you are a fierce designer,
bagging yourself a win on, in my opinion, the hardest challenge; the item
challenge, and I adore every single look that you made throughout the cycle.
You've shown in this cycle that you're one to look out for, and that you are
that girl.
Your color scheme game has always amazed me, and this collection is
no exception. Every single color you chose for each of your models pairs
perfectly with them, especially on your main model, Brandie. This teal and
gold color scheme looks exquisite on your model. The background feels
so lively, with the cards everywhere, and dazzling, with the stars.
Silhouette-wise, Brandie's outfit falls a tad short compared to the other
looks, but I can tell Brandie's the main model, just by the color scheme
alone.
I like Amira's garment the most. That silhouette is just stunning to look at.
The details on Raven's bodysuit look beautiful as well. I do love the colors
Stella is on, but it personally looks unfinished. And Serena's outfit has one
or two excess items, but the cohesion is there, and I see the vision. Overall,
for what it's meant to give, it doesn't read jester-like, aside from the cards.
They are in fancy gowns and outfits, but I don't see jester That aside,
this is a great collection.
Detrimentum — Eryn:
Detri, darling. Knowing your placement last cycle, I can't fathom
how it feels to come so close to success but ultimately fall short, but now you
have. Congratulations on making it to the finale. Seeing your work then and
now, I can tell you're driven to bring home the bacon more than anyone else
with every entry you submit. That drive helped you secure 4 wins under your
belt. That is no easy feat. Your work throughout this cycle is commendable.
Your fungi fashion line looks fantastic. Every fungus you assigned to every
model fit them perfectly. I appreciate that Eryn's the devil to the other model's
angel, seeing that everyone else looks angelic, whereas Eryn looks devilish
and punky. What a way to let the people know Eryn's your main model. This
was such an educational and fashionable way to educate us on the wonders
of the world of fungus, and I enjoy learning them in this fashion.
I am in awe at Luz's coral fungus look. She looks aquatically majestic. The
same goes for Jaylyn's pagoda fungus look. The colors are just stunning
on her. Stella looks stellar, but her look falls short, compared to the others.
And Cheska looks pure and angelic, however, her skirt feels a tad too heavy
and bulky to my liking, but regardless, the presentation of every look is spot
on. Regarding cohesion, based purely on aesthetics, I wouldn't have
recognized that all your designs were intended to represent fungi without your
description. That said, this is quite the collection.
BloodAngel95 — Raine:
Sweet Angel, your run in this competition surprised me the most.
Seeing your work from the past cycle, and comparing it to what you've done
in this cycle. You've shown such immense growth, and you absolutely
murdered the competition, being the first designer this cycle to bag a
back-to-back win, and taking home the final win, securing your spot in the
finale. You deserve a round of applause for what you've achieved in this
competition.
I enjoyed walking through the black-flowered garden that is your collection.
Every single model looks blooming. Everyone's makeup is on point,
especially Raine's. It was a smart move on your end to have your main
model be the one starting off the collection, and welcome us into the garden.
She looks beautiful as the personification of the black dahlia flower. This
burgundy is such a perfect color on Brandie.
This is the best look we've seen Stella in, out of the three. The color scheme
really suits her features. I'm also enamored with Eunwoo's garment; it’s great
to see a touch of her culture incorporated into her outfit. Kiara’s outfit has the
blackwater vibe, but adding more black could enhance it. The yellow in
Tessa's outfit matches the reference picture well, though the flower she
represents looks more dark blue than black—minor nitpicks that don't
diminish the collection's glamor. Though Raine's outfit feels overshadowed to
some degree, nonetheless, this collection is an impressive showcase overall.
