The Warned

Trina entered the room. Her assumptions were correct as she noted the nine occupants in the room. She sat when a seat and listened the mission’s details intently. As she suspected this wasn’t going to be simple. When told that they would be acting pairs Trina held in stifling nervous anxiety. She didn’t want to image how whoever she drew out of the hat would treat her. No, they probably all, expect the Captain that is, thought she was traitorous scum that wasn’t to be trusted. This mission was going to test even more of her patience. Luckily all of the worries evaporated and were replaced by an odd sensation. She was to be paired with the Captain. For the first time in a while fate had smiled upon her. She nodded in response to his words and returned a small smile. She still wasn’t able to smile sincerely. Trina didn’t know when the effects of being falsely accused and practically executed would ware off.

 

[Captain Fox McCloud]

Well if it's not too much to ask we need to leave right now, the majority of the attacks happen at night, and though some of you may be a bit warn, don't try to push yourself if you get into trouble, just let your officer know and the'll help you out. Is there any one apposed to this?"

Ready to start the mission, Trina glanced about knowingly. None of the soldiers who fought to reach this point would back out now. Being accepted for such a high ranking mission was an honor among few. As she knew that she wouldn't back out now, the others wouldn’t either. She silently waiting for the captains signal to head out.

 

[Captain Fox McCloud]

"Well then, it's good to see that you all seem to be ready. Now go to the stables and recieve a horse, then meet your officer outside of the asigned gate. Trina you'll be meeting me outside the main gate, we'll head into the forrest from there." Rex then left the office along witht he other officers to prepare for the journey.

Accepting the orders given, Trina headed off pack. Once she reached the women’s bunkhouse, she retrieved her small satchel that hid her throwing stars and straped her halberd to her back, after stuffing a few provisions in her hip hugging bag. Bidding farewell to the empty bunkhouse, she visited the stables and then rode off to the main gate, weapons in tow.

 

[Captain Fox McCloud]

When the Captain saw Trina, he shouted, "Let's be off," before he begain to trot off into the woods. After severla minutes passed he stumbled upon several bodies. They were all crudly armed, which seemed to fit the description of a bounty hunter. "I guess these used to be the hunters, the General was talking about." He then dismounted the horse to feel the corpse. The body had not completly fallen to rigormortis so this could not have happened more than a few hours ago. He then looked around for any signs of a trail, before spotting a small trail of blood, that disapeared after a few yards, but was able to give some direction to were they could have gone. "This way Trina," Rex shouted as he mounted his horse and begain to charge off onto the trail.  

[Tramer]

Tramer ran tirelessly after what ever it was he was chasing the further he went the more he questioned this hole thing.

“there is something strange just ahead” Ryu said to Tramer a hint of confusion in her thoughts as she flew far overhead scouting out the area for Tramer

“what do you mean, strange?” Tramer replied telepathically

“you’ll see” Ryu replied simply

Tramer stopped suddenly as he saw flattened grass ahead; Tramer knelt down to examine the strange happenings. Tramer stood up and looked to the sky watching Ryu slowly circle downward landing on Tramer’s shoulder

“you see what I mean” Ryu said as she showed Tramer a mental image of the grasslands from the air “another thing that was odd, all the animals in the area were running away from this area, including many predators of the grasslands” Ryu said looking around suspiciously

Tramer walked around the area of flattened grass closely examining it “another thing, don’t you find it odd that this is perfect size to make camp for two or three people and the trail of whatever we were tracking stopped right here” Tramer added, “it all seems to convenient”

“so its obvious something led us here, so do we trust this thing and hope it means well or do we flee and never look back” Ryu said as she jumped off Tramer’s shoulder and closely examined one of the bent pieces of grass

Tramer then looked back at the two girls that had chased the thing along with him “hey, by chance do ether of you have the slightest idea what is going on?” Tramer asked as he knelt down braking off a blade of grass and presided to roll it in-between his fingers

Tramer didn’t like this whole situation but there didn’t seem to be any way out, it was already dark and trying to transverse the grasslands in the dark would be fare to dangerous, Tramer reached into his pack and pulled out a fairly large polished stone, about the size of a grapefruit, Tramer placed the stone in the center of the flattened grass placing his hands over the stone “usara” Tramer whispered, as he did the stone began to glow brightly lighting the small clearing, the stone also put of a fair amount of heat. Tramer sat on the ground back to the stone, he continued to roll the blade of grass between his fingers as he stared out into the darkness surrounding the small group, Tramer suddenly stood up and grasped the hilt of his sword that hung from his back “did any of you hear that” Tramer said as he looked around suspiciously wondering if it had just been the wind he had herd

Ryu looked up at Tramer with a concerned look on her face “we are not alone” Ryu said looking out into the darkness

“I know that but who or better yet what is out there” Tramer replied telepathically remembering how Ryu had told him about all the animals fleeing the aria earlier  

[Foxkilth]

"You must be hearing things." Rosette said tilting her hear to a side to listen better.

He hadn't been hearing things, but hopefully they wouldn't have to find out for sure.
The 'Hungries' had begun a march around the group's small clearing. Out of eye sight range of the encampment, they circled constantly, focused on only two things: Don't let anything in. Or out.
Only one thing would relinquish them from their duty...and it wasn't death.

Constance looked around. "Momo, what is this place..." Some might call it a battle feild, others would call it a sanctuary...I'de call it a gateway to hell..." "What are you talking about...stop scareing me!" She walked slowly twards the other two people who had followed the invisible thing. She felt safer with more people around.

Hearing the Captain’s orders Trina followed him into forest. She gave a hard glare towards the corpses. They were getting closer, but why was this all falling into place so quickly? Missions rarely went this smoothly. Determine that this was all some sort of trap Trina stayed mounted, waiting for the next orders. When the captain charged she followed, constantly looking about for any evidence of the enemy afoot. “I don’t like this one bit,” she muttered whilst charging blinding after the Captain.

The Captain's horse came to a sudden halt as he raised his hand into the air to signal to Trina that she should also slow to a stop. The event that caused him to suddenly cease his movments was that ther was something that was glowing in the middle of a clearing. Three medium sized human figures stod near the stone as well as two smaller creatures that Rex couldn't clearly make out. He had also noticed that the five beings were also being surrounded by something that remained hidden in the tall grass, but from the sudden movements of the tall stems of grass indicated that there were quite a few of them.

Rex then rached over his lap with his right hand and gripped the pomel of his saber, slowly removing it from the scabbard with a light grating sound. He the lowered it to the side of his horse and turned his head around to face Trina, prepare yourself, something nasty seems to be brewing up ahead."

Just Rosette was about to relax, she heard a small rustle in the grass to her left, "What was that?"she asked the guy she came with.

Just about that moment, the grass right around the Captain's horse seemed to suck into the ground, then the ground itself came alive. A large mouth opened, and many arms surounded it, trying to drag the horse and it's rider to a premature ending. The horse barely jumped out of the way in time to escape the reach of it's doomsday bringer. Just as suddenly as it happened, it was gone again. The grass had grown back perfectly in an instant as if nothing had ever happened.

The 'thing' came awake, disturbed by the comotion caused by the 'Hungrie'
what's going on out there?

Then the 'Hungries' began appearing rather rapidly, almost seamingly at random, beneath the two who were not within the clearing, where ever they went.
