{HALVINE | CLENORE}

1st Year Gryffindor

Once again, Halvine found himself in the owlery. This time though, he was too distracted to notice much of anything, and nearly collided with the couple of older students already present in the cramped space. “Oh, hullo. Sorry if I’m interrupting, I’ll only be a minute.” He hoped it was a smile on his face and not more of a grimace as he moved past them and to the upper level, so they could still have some privacy.

Haphazardly, and very unlike him, he pulled out parchment and began scribbling a letter furiously. It was more of a passionate message than his usual neat and composed letter, but it’d have to do. His emotions were much too prickly when it came to Belle, and there really wasn’t anything he could do about it. While he was writing, he barely noticed Nikolai landing on his shoulder and pecking bits of snow out of his hair. Finally the pecking grazed his scalp a bit too closely and he glanced up.“Oh sorry Nikolai, guess I’m not in the greatest mood. I have another favor to ask, and if you do this, I promise I’ll owl dad for a bag of those treats you like, okay? He smiled at the bird, forgetting for a moment all the turmoil he had just been feeling. “Take this to Belle, at breakfast tomorrow.” At a sharp, argumentative chirp from the owl, Halvine gave a small laugh, “I know Nikolai, that cat of hers. You can take her, don’t worry. Off with you then, rest up for the battle.” Petting him for a moment, Halvine then stood and rushed out of the owlery, simultaneously more relieved and more anxious than he had been when he first came in.

The clustered roar of the Owlery was as he had remembered it, his last visit here had been at least year ago, if not two, his own owl seemed to despise the cluttered remnants of aging, crisp droplings strewn about wooden bannisters and shelves. The owls seemed to be ringing in a clamor as they entered, he could hear nothing else but the scarce force of wind ruffling through feathers, and clasping beaks. Pursed lips withheld the disdain that suddenly broke through the surface and sat abrupt on his skin, but using all he had learned in his Occlumency class, he drowned it all away until he was numb.

Of course, the threat of the growling lion at his heels had done little to soothe his thoughts, and the bitter sting of salt dried upon his cheeks left a humiliated discord in his heart—but if he didn’t admit to it, he could make it so that it was never there, like it never happened.

But it had, and in some odd way, he was glad. Now, now he would have his chance to get closer to the forces that oppose him, and, he realized exactly how he was going to do it.

Colton shivered as they reached the top of the west tower, entering the stone labyrinth of the owlery behind a snake of each gender. The wintry air grabbed furiously at the tail of his robes while he peered into an empty whole in the wall, temporarily abandoned by its owner to deliver what was probably a meaningless message.

He waited, hands clenched into fists and both sides of his jaw squeezed into iron plates. Of course he deserved to lose house points, and possibly even a detention, but Colt knew all too well that what he had coming was likely to be far outside the normal clutches of teacher-given consequences. His deep sigh broke the open air, but was swept effortlessly away into the squawks and squalls of the impatient birds.

Rosier had followed both boys as their walked in a rigid march before her in a solemn line. Eyeing with growing twisted interest as she translated various stiff jerks and angled glances for what they meant and which thoughts they carried. Every piece of her working in restraint to keep the humour from her face and leave the acid of her eyes with no light. As they wound in the tight spiral of stairs to appear in the filthy landing of the owlery - greeted by the hoots, swift launch and screeches - she allowed the two to savour in their imagination of what she had in store for them. Where normally there would be line writing or perhaps the cleaning for a classroom, Rosier had just as simple a task for them, yet twisted and perhaps even cruel."I am sure you are both familiar with this place and its normal appearance." Her tongue clicked against her teeth with the drawn out words and sentence falling with agonizing speeds, "I am also sure you are aware of how...revolting everyone finds it. I need the two of you to fix that." The whirling reaction from both boys made Rosier have to instantly hide the smirk that had risen to her face. With humour instead focused into her tone, she offered her open hand in their air, instructing sternly with the laughing notes, "Your wands, please." She sang. Taking both the boy's weapons and savouring their angered gazes and hesitance, she quickly transfigured two discarded bricks from the open construction into large floor brushes and a plank of wood into a water-filled bucket. With the observed shine and gleam of the magic hanging, the witch had enchanted the water to magically re-filled and clean itself, but not to be moved from its inconvenient place of being in one opposite corner of the room.
"Feel free to send me an owl once you are done," she said, smirk now proudly worn on her features and acid irises shadowed with a self-centred podium. The whip of her robes narrowly missing a few of the awkwardly stationed birds as she pun on her heel to leave the tower.

Putrid, and ghastly, the ever-present fumes that clung to every fiber and nail of the wooden canopy restricted within the pointed tower of the gray cast castle looming against the clouded sky. Eyes wrought in a metallic gold glinted against the sun’s rays, reflecting the light against the tangible darkness concealed within him, not even attempting to be hidden behind the mask that he had built since birth.

No, nothing held him bound, and nothing chained him down. The fire was alit in his eyes, maniacal, and deadly; a man who had nothing left to loose, and everything to gain. There was a deeply corrupt darkness that dwindled within, deeper than thought or sound, it was imbedded in his very genes.

That darkness roared to life as he dropped his wand within the pale outstretched hand, hovering in front of him, bleeding fire into his memories. He shook the thought away as he stepped back, allowing Colton freedom to approach as he wandered deeper into the owlery. With a glance cast backwards over his shoulder, he watched the professor go, leaving the two behind in their solace.

But he knew they weren’t alone, not really. The young heir threw a distant glimpse towards the lion, nearly a head and a half taller than he. ”So… It’s just you and me.” His voice rang now that the silence wavered in between. Turning around to drop himself to one knee and grasp the bucket, he rose, but the pail did not.

Narrowing his gaze, and no matter how hard he pulled, the bucket had sealed its fate, and would not move. Ushering a low curse under his breath, he simply grasped the thick bristled brush and dropped it within the sudsy water below.

”You know why she’s doing this, don’t you?”

"To make my life that much more enjoyable?" Colton's deep voice rang like a chisel against ice—filled to the brim with sarcasm—as he made his best guess in response to Tay's taunting question, a question that he clearly knew less about its answer than than its asker. He sauntered reluctantly over to the sole, unmovable bucket positioned conveniently in the corner farthest from the core of their duties.

He had already given up his wand, a feat that rendered him nearly as defensiveness as any other human, and now he was being forced to spend the next few hours bonding with his worst enemy—the very enemy he had just finished dueling—who hadn't failed to leave his mark on him. His hand automatically reached up to his neck at the thought, the entire left side of which had been seared with Tay's magicked fire, leaving a deep—and intentionally painful—burn. While most teacher's would have escorted him to the hospital wing after such an occurrence, here he stood in the dirty owlery—brush in hand.

After Tay removed his brush, Colton followed suit, dropping his own into the bucket before removing it again. With a loud sigh that was still easily drowned by the continuous hooting of the owls and the irritating flapping of their feathered wings, he crossed the room in three large strides, soapy water dripping freely from his right hand.

"Aside from my entertainment and the rare chance for us to catch up on some quality bonding—is there another goal you think she might be aiming for, Nott?" he asked with a curious sneer as he knelt next to one of the empty, arched holes in the wall. Without putting much thought into it, he began to press the brush back and forth in a trance-like sweeping motion against the soiled stone floor.

”Oh,” William began as he meandered down to one of the lower bannisters that the owls perched upon, waving them away erratically and sloshing sudsy water to plop across the room in turn. ”I have my theories.” Though there was no biting chill or creeping Hell fire lurching from his throat, it made no difference to quell the thoughts in his mind; wild, sadistic, narcissistic, and demented.

He tossed a casual glance over his shoulder, and then turned at the torso to gain a fuller view on the towering heap opposite him, one quick swipe of attention darted upwards, while his eyes threw back down as he nodded towards himself, and the lower regions. A silent agreement—he swiping the ground like the snake he is, and the lion climbing to heights as it should be.

”She’s teaching us magic,” he had explained, abrupt and simple. Or she’s manipulating me. ”What better way to learn the fundamental theory of breaking down an element and recreating it—

“Than by throwing water and fire together to see how it reacts.”
A simple shrug of shoulder and he turned, hiding the shame of the burning boils that tainted the lower half of his chin and smearing across jawlines and the very edge of his cheek, a generous sprain in his ankle from the fall, and, that knot on his robs was beginning to throb. ”Of course, I’m only being optimistic.”

Lowering one knee to the ground, thick bristles began to scour away the wood as his free hand fought away the birds that dared to near him. ”Because then I always get this sick feeling that she’s waiting for me to stab you in the back, or you to snap my neck, and then blackmail us for her own sheer amusement.” Smile hidden to face the low bannister, the burst of amusement shone on his iced honey tongue.

”Don’t you?” Smile wiped clean, a stern inquisition of rounded features veered around to meet the lion with a raised brow, keen upon being coy in art of word that his own uncle was so fond of. But not even the heir of Nott could hide that twinkle in his eyes, that whispering haunt that he knows something no one else does. That he has something no one else can.

The wind gently tossed Aravis' hair as she ascended the stairs into the Owlry. It was odd not to be in a class at the moment, but her schedule had allotted her some free time. In that time, she had managed to quickly write a letter to the Muggle couple who took her in after her father had been killed by the dragon. She had a fear that something had to be up, and the Gryffindor figured the woman she had called her mother for so long would be able to help put her fears at ease.

Sadie, the prefect's tiny owl, perked up as soon as she saw the girl. "Good morning Sadie," she said to the brown bird. The owl proceeded to perch herself on her human's shoulder. "I don't suppose you'll mind taking this home for me? I've just been so worried lately. I feel like something's going to happen. I'm certain it's nothing, but still. I'd like to have some reassurance."

The Gryffindor extracted the parchment from her pocket and sent Sadie off toward the place she knew as her home. Not that place that once belonged to the Starlings, and now to one Halice Rosentha. That place was not home. It was welcoming, yes, but it was not home.

An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all.

Woil made his way up the Owlery staircase with his younger brother. Arguing with him over various things. Mainly the fact that he was going out with Shin Sever.
"He's actually really nice Yia." He argued as he stepped up into the Owlrey and stood awa so his little brother was able to enter. He was a bit angry that Yia wasn't happy with his relationship..

The little prankster Ravenclaw just rolled his gold eyes as he walked into the Olwrey with his older brother. Having donned the appearance of a bright blond, white skinned, gold eyed kid Yia just continued the argument with his brother. "Doesn't matter. A Slytherin is a Slytherin, Auntie and Uncle are not going to like you dating him. Not to mention when they find out Matt's a Slytherin, their probably going to send a howler." He said giggling sinisterly as he thought of Matt getting a Howler.

►The man... The mystery... The legend...◄

William was in the Owlery to receive a letter from his sister, which he had been expecting. He had just taken it from the Little Owl named Saphira when he heard voices approaching the Owlery. He blended in back with the owls, locating Baron, the Great Gray Owl and hiding beside him. He spotted the elder Noinnei brother, and could tell by the way he was speaking that young Yiaraw was with him. He glanced down at the letter in his hand, which was addressed to them. I get to be the human owl again. Yay...

Woil sighed,
"I wish you two would stop fighting. It's really annoying." He said angrily to his brother as he held his forehead. Yia and Matt were always at each others throats constantly and it was really stupid. So when he had selected the owl that he had gotten from his aunt and uncle he gave it to Yia and helped him tie the letter to it's leg. He brought it over to the window and let it take flight. Smiling as he watched it go.

Will stepped from his hiding place and in two swift steps, made it to the boys. "You two got a letter from my sister," he said and seized Yia, giving him a playful noggie. He handed Woil the letter addressed to him in his sister's penmanship. "You know, it seems the only letters she's sent to me recently have been for me to deliver to other people. I'm like a human owl."

Yia gasped as he was yanked up and given a noogie but he burst into laughter at the older student and smile up at him. This man had grown onto the little prankster and he considered him more of another brother then just a friend. When the older guy finished and complained Yia rolled his eyes and shook his head up at him. "Well at least you're much more fun then her." He said giggling. He hadn't met his sister so he didn't know but William really was a lot of fun. Heck he had some plans to pull off the biggest score in the school in honor of his graduation. The little Ravenclaw would surely miss the big guy in this school.

Will quirked his eyebrow at young Yiaraw. "So, you've met my sister then? I didn't even make Quidditch team captain. She was captain for five years. And she's my father's favorite. I mean, don't me wrong, Pop loves me too, just... he favors her." He sighed and crossed his arms behind his head. "She manages to use prank items in ways that are productive. You really should meet her. Whelp, I delivered my message."
