Cheaters Never Prosper!
Demani Lion's Name: Haru - “Spring/Sunlight” Prompt Response: Haru walked with a bounce in his step. Even though everything around him was dying the colors of the leaves around him and the energy radiating off of the Vuli made the lion happy and energetic. Who said that fall was not as beautiful as spring? Everything about the pride separated the seasons and the followers into their groups, but he was interested in all of them. And though spring was his beloved season, his favorite out of all four, the lion loved to participate in all the festivals. His job like always was to keep the peace and to make certain that all of the events and games were going smoothly.
But it seemed that someone wanted to ruin that peace.
Frowning the lion listened as he was told about a certain cheater in the pumpkin games. Really? Haru sighed under his breath. Couldn’t others just enjoy the game itself and leave luck to decide their fate? All this cheating business irked even the usually good natured lion. But no he would not let a cheater ruin his mood.
So approaching the game he tossed a bright smile towards the lioness in charge before settling in to watch. Now where was his cheater of the night? After several pumpkins crashed towards the target a small grin spread over Haru’s face. Ah. How unique. The cheater was flicking another thing after the pumpkin. It looked like some fine string almost like a spider’s thread that was tied around the stem of the pumpkin. And as it drifted away the cheater twitched their paw just right so that the pumpkin would veer back on course and into the target.
Maybe if they hadn’t tried getting near perfect every time then it might have actually been hard to catch. Laughing softly under his breath Haru watched one more time to make sure before thinking about the best way to take care of the situation. Actually as he watched the lion felt a vague sense of recognition. Was that a demani who was cheating? It would figure…but that doesn't matter to me anyway. A cheater was a cheater after all and he was sworn to stop them.
But his main problem was that he didn’t want to interrupt the game. Still he didn’t want this guy to continue getting by with cheating. Especially if he won like this. That just wouldn’t be right! Still Haru had a sense of pride and was not one to cause a ruckus unless absolutely necessary. So after some more quick plotting the lion slipped into the sidelines and went past the crowd to lay low near where the pumpkins rolled. No he couldn’t use something to brush the string away else the other pumpkin rolls might get interrupted. So he figured something else would have to work.
Wobbling back towards the cheater Haru gave him what appeared to be a drunken smile before ‘accidentally’ stumbling in front of him. Immediately the pumpkin ahead tossed to the side and there was a small snap where Haru’s claws dug into the ground. “Oh. So ssso so-sorry.” Falling backwards he tossed the cheater a secretive smile which grew as he saw the expression on the other’s face when realization struck. Oh yeah. Holding up his paw the lion turned it just right so that the cut string hit the light. ‘Try it now.’ His expression read to the cheater, ‘I’ll be watching you.’
Turning he walked past the lioness running the game and gave her a knowing wink.
After the game was over he would have a talk with the cheater, but for now it seemed that the game was still running smoothly and none the wiser about how close the game was to being a fraud.
