Designer: Darkerdemons Model: April Process: See Spoiler
Salt, Sand, and Sun theme reminds me of Rae's Sweet and Salty outfit from Everybody Say Love. This time it was clear I couldn't rely on past ideas. Rae's elegant styles don't fit that well on April, whose hair is perfect for sports. Being a sport person myself, it was easy to cross out most of my original ideas, which featured April posing on a beach in bikinis. Many of the WIPs looked amazing - I was particularly fond of the lifeguard outfit as well as Airy Summer tubes. The outfits were very simple though. While simple can work from time to time, part of this challenge was to go bold (as suggested in the description).
The boldest WIP was the roller skating outfit: April doesn't live too far from the beach, so she can skate to the beach, play in the sand and sea, and then skate home. Skates were equipped first, followed by the hair bow, which instantly added color balance to the top and bottom of the avatar. The rest of the outfit took a bit more time. Even though April planned to swim, I wanted an outfit with a bit more coverage. She's baring most of her skin in the water, but not when she's skating. The Coy Kohaku items have bikini bottoms that resemble short shorts - they fit well with the desired sporty look. The top of the avatar got spruced up with items including a different bikini as well as the short jacket.
Beach backgrounds refused to work with April's skating outfit. The main issue: you can't skate on sand. There were a couple boardwalk backgrounds, but one only had a tiny bit of water and sand hidden on the side - the other had the more pixelated quality associated with Moga backgrounds. Beachcomber items come with a fabulous background cutter. The star cutter gave me more freedom with backgrounds and fit with the star on April's hair bow. The Thirsty skate item has blue and green, so I chose a beach background with primarily blue to balance with the Shamrock green bikini items. The belt is not an exact match color-wise; however, the belt is necessary to balance the middle of the outfit. Also, the Coy Kohaku bikini bottoms sit a bit low on the avatar. The belt adds a few more pixels so it looks like the shorts are sitting further up. I chose to stick with Coy Kohaku, as the shorts show some thigh skin between the shorts and the skate leg mod. Most other shorts are bulkier and completely conceal the skin. There is a dark line crossing one of April's shoulders; this is from her hair - not an arm mod glitch.
Some of my beach avatar ideas would not work, no matter how many different items I equipped. The skater outfit surpassed my original expectations. Title based on the idiom 'watch my dust'. In water, a wake is left behind a moving object. April is fast on skates and fast in the water: an athlete through and through.

summer job
Here we have Robin dressed up and working as a cabana waitress. She might be at a beach-side bar in Hawaii or at a 5 star resort. Because this workplace is a casual and fun locale the uniform is more fun and sexy than most places. There's a little bit of a Hooters vibe going on honestly. Robin and her coworkers wear their short-shorts and crop tops while they serve rich clients expensive cocktails. Can you blame her for not smiling?
Two of my favourite beachy items on Gaia are Zesty Verdure and Cafe Coconut, so I wanted to use one of them for this beach entry! The Zesty Verdure arms looked a little weird though, so I went with the waitress angle. There were a couple of different colours to choose from, but I went with the Anubis version because I liked that I could match it with the Thumbelina shorts Robin has on. They look like denim cut-off short shorts! Don't those just define summer?
The legs were a little difficult because I was really committed to the shorts, but most bare legs I could pair with them had no shoes on. It didn't work for the concept. I'm not 100% happy with the sandals being vintage gold, because they only match the drink, but there weren't any jay options.
I went back and forth on a head bow or a ribbon, but in the end the ribbon looked more suitable for a work environment. I would have preferred a sunhat, but Gaia's selection of items is lacking in that department.
My brain is against me and when I read anywhere in a swimsuit, my first thought were- Mars! Office Meeting! Space mermaid!! Considering my previous weirdness, I decided to tone down and make a simple seaside avi rofl At first I thought of a good bodymod item I know of, but decided that it might not speak well of creativity. The only real challenges were finding right arms (the armmods were a nice find, I didnt knew such item existed), legs, matching color, so overall not much of work. I just used a few of my fav items over the years for clothing and background. None of the colors are too sharp, it all fits well with gentle and relaxed vacation feeling, plus the warm color of clothing scheme pops her out well enough against the cool background.
◟It's not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing it.◞

Summer by the Seaside Designer: elphiethesane Model: Ophelia
Honestly I had such a hard time with this challenge, not because I couldn’t come up with something, but because I came up with way too many options. I just did a count, actually, and I had 8 completely different drafts, not even including the variations where I played with different arms or backgrounds! And most of them were perfectly viable entries too, so narrowing them down into the one I thought would be best was quite tricky.
Ultimately this one won out by a very slim margin. There was just something I didn’t quite like about my other final choices... One was a “picnic on the beach” concept which was one of my very first ideas, and I loved how it turned out, but to get her arms to line up correctly and make her look like she was sitting on the picnic blanket, I had to squish down the background in a way I just couldn’t quite bring myself to fully get behind. My attempts to get it to work, though, did lead me to the top that I ultimately ended up using, as well as convincing me that I needed to do a sunhat and sunglasses. It’s just so summery, and suits the kind of cool attitude I’ve always associated with Ophelia.
I went back and forth a lot between this and my other final look, though. Partially it’s because the other final look was a sort of retro one with a bit of color scheme mixing that really appeals to my personal style, but mainly because I was hesitant to enter something that doesn’t technically match. Despite remembering these legs partway through the creation process and thinking they would make for a really cool look, I hesitated to use this color because I had absolutely no idea what would match. I’m not entirely sure there are other items with these colors. But I struggled to come up with something I really liked with the recolors, so in the end I decided to try to match it on a whim. When I paired with with the sea breeze top, I knew it wasn’t the exact same shade of green, but it seemed like a lighter shade of the same green when I looked at it, so I thought... Maybe it would work.
With the green in the background echoing the green in her sarong, and the browns that are similar in tone if not in exact shade to the golden yellow, I think I ultimately managed to come up with something that looks like it goes together in a single color scheme, even if it technically doesn’t. I was still hesitant to enter it, though, for that exact reason, but ultimately it won out purely because it just seemed to suit Ophelia more than the retro look did. As much as I like a cool, vintage inspired look, I have to go with what suits the model!
Apologies if this isn’t the most coherent of descriptions, I ended up having something to do tonight and wanted to get something out rather then risk being late. I have other tidbits I could add, but I think this is the most important stuff!

Darkerdemons (April) It's cute to see someone skating at the beach, kind of a nice play on things. But it's almost overly color coordinated, and the background would have been nicer if it was a fuller picture. The jacket was a bad choice. Fur lined anything at the beach? No. I want to reassure you that it isn't a bad look. We're at a point though where things have to be more than fine.
Pianette (Jiang Li) This was a really weird filter and shading for someone who's on a sunny beach? The legs look like a wrong skin tone, whether it's the shading or an actually different tone we weren't sure. It's a cute hat but there isn't a ton of yellow. Honestly the fogging/slightly darkening filter is distracting from the rest of the look.
elphiethesane (Ophelia) This is a lovely look. There could have been a bag or some other kind of accessory to fill the space that little bit more. Glasses were used before. Love that the colors work together but don't match 100% or come from one scheme, this helps Ophelia look more real.
sufjan stebens (Robin) This is a cute outfit, we all feel bad for Robin though, working where she is. Head bang is cute in theory but doesn't quite work. Same goes for the different mods. All of the mods are different sizes, pixelization, and angle which makes for a really weird end result.
RENstrawberry (Rae) Your description was late again. So the leg mods make Rae look oddly short and stubby, and the umbrella layers incorrectly for the look. However the tattoos and black were a great choice for Rae, they work really well on her. And the over all vibe and idea of the outfit is great.
Haji Demon (Uma) The idea is good, but there is a lot going on here. The big bow, big hat, stripes, big sarong all feel like their fighting for attention and space. The lowering glasses was a good thing. Sarong in the water though was one of the bigger issues. These pinks also aren't the strongest or weakest colors on Uma, just leaves things looking kind of..meh.
The Dread Wolf (Isabelle) This isn't the most creative, but this was still a great look, and it was a nice background to see. Surf board mod was good, and the wetsuit chosen was practical. Also like that you listened to critique, but there's still some more you can do. This was good.

The "Collector" Where have you been? // Been searching all along Came facing twilight on and on // Without a clue
Mad about... Feathers? lol The odd thing is that there was literally no question that I was going to pick a bird. Like... y'all say fur... and I actually instantly thought of the long haired dog (because of Jiang Li's hair). Problem is. I don't think gaia exactly provides that. And especially not in black lol But then, minding my own business, focusing on something else entirely. It occurred to me that I needed to choose a bird. And that was that.
I started off with Nevermore because I love Nevermore and despise what he's tagged with. He's very close to the avatar and a bit difficult to use because of that. So I started looking for something else that was a bit more free and usable ahhh. And then there he was, my good boi. Ominous Black Bird's really handy, lots of good dark poses... ya know... cause ominous... Anyway, the first one really stood out to me. Good motion, posing, story; the lot. A good boi.
The head went through the most changes. Started with double wings, went to no wings, smaller wings, one wing but different, found this wing which was the !!! this is the one moment. The face needed something else so I started with glasses even if I was really feeling mask (any mask, for reference, was NOT working). I was attached to the gold pince nez for the longest time while looking for a necklace. But let me tell you what does not work without a nose. Oh yeah. It felt so wrong. The assassin monocle on the other hand felt oh so right. And it fit snugly in with the wing! A bonus!
The entire outfit came together rather smoothly after that. Everything just fell into place. By this point I had settled on a bit of a gentleman thief theme, inspired by a certain winged thief. It's also why I chose Tsarina for the necklace, to mimic that movement. For the clothes, it would've been easy to make a fully black outfit, it's what I do on the regular, but I felt this needed something more. A bit more depth. I felt like the addition of navy kept it still within the realm of muted colors but still differentiated enough of the avatar to keep from blobbing. It also played off the blue of the bird's eye which I enjoyed.
I've gone... back and forth on this background... so much. I have a number of versions saved on my image hoster, just to stare at and compare. I almost cut a different background with a cutter but it left the bird out. It also seemed too empty. This one felt the best, looked right. Again, all plain, very empty. This... this street light. It's like the perfect shape, the perfect size, right location. Like the best thing ever. Most of the recolors it's had have been absolute CHOICES though. I settled with this one since it's one of the ones least offensive to the eye (in this setting) and keeps the hand from getting lost. Ultimately, it's a bit harder to see the gold necklaces (the pro of the darker lamp), but I'd rather have legibility over that detail.
Overall, I feel pretty good about the pet matching. Very happy with how it turned out.
Not Your Average"Pet" Designer: RENstrawberry Model: Rae Description:
Coming up with a concept for Rae this week was fairly difficult. Starting out I knew I wanted to pair up Rae with a white animal, but deviate the look enough from the nearly full ivory look from a previous challenge. I started out with a white cat and a white bunny, but I wasn’t too confident in those looks, so I took a leap from the original small animal idea and went with a polar bear.
After pairing Rae with her companion, I’m glad I really focused on looking for an animal friend that shared a lot of physical traits with Rae. After deciding the polar bear was the best option, I had to give it a name LOL. I decided Palu (like PAL and then OOO) was a fun name that kind of sounds like a disney name where this challenge is inspired from. Palu was a great fit for Rae and for what I was looking for. Palu came in the “polaris” theme which rotates between a similar off white to Rae’s hair, a creamy yellow, an icy blue, and lastly a pale rosy pink.
Based on the colors of Palu, I began constructing Rae’s outfit. For whatever reason I started off with an accessory first which made choosing the main articles of clothing for Rae a bit tricky! The scarf fit too perfectly with Palu the polar bear, I just couldn’t abandon it. The fur and even little paws on the scarf were perfect for Rae and Palu. I knew I wanted Rae to be some what casual in streetwear to make this look believable and as close to the reference images for this challenge as possible.
So next up, was struggling to find a jacket that worked with the scarf! And an arm pose that wouldn’t cover up too much. The original arm pose/coat I chose for Rae covered too much of her face, but I really liked the look of her “blowing on her hands” as if she was cold. So instead of going for an obvious/explicitly cold pose that covered too much of her face, I opted for this one with the cream fur on the jacket that would imply her hands or cold (or even later on in the description, that she’s adjusting her glasses).
After adding her coat, I had to put the creamy yellow hue elsewhere. Searching for pants, I was convinced I had to find bottoms in the icy blue so they could match Palu’s icy blue limbs (and her coat from earlier). Luckily, I found some that were paired with her shoes that would help balance out the cream color and introduced the pink.
I took a break from clothing to attempt to find some pinkish flowers for Rae to wear that would match the ones Palu’s already adorned on his fur coat like a necklace. And I somehow easily found a subtle earring and “floating” flowers to match with Palu. Adding the extra layer of falling flowers just seemed to stitch the two characters into one cohesive space.
Lastly for Rae’s outfit, I felt the yellow creams Rae was bearing on her shoes and coat didn’t balance out correctly. To solve this I searched for a hat that luckily came in the same cream and even had some similar floral elements to it~ For the final touch, later on I noticed Palu the polar bear had very subtle rings around his eyes and the bridge of his nose seemed to connect them. I took this as the perfect opportunity for Rae to Wear some round glasses so the two could be cute together ;-;
To complete the look I searched through a lot of wintry backgrounds and found this one in another recolor. I was hoping and praying to find this background in a hue that would compliment the look, and Gaia came thruuuuuu. The yellows and whites of the background were similar enough to tie in with everything, but also dulled down enough to allow Rae and Palu to be pushed forward in perspective, and thus allow them to have most of the attention.
I’m satisfied with this pair of companions. I’m glad the look over all had this really subtle, pastel like feel. I’m definitely not used to dressing up avi’s in pastels as you can probably tell from most of my avi’s, oof. I do like the subtlety of the colors from this theme juxtaposed with the fair amount of textures within the outfit.
P.S. All of Rae’s “fur” clothing is FAUX FUR. Can’t have her wearing her best friend.

horsey..............
this was very hard, robin's hair HATES companions. i felt like i had to use an animal with black/offblack fur, but they all either layered behind robin's hair or blended into it completely. this horse layers weirdly with her hair too, but i actually like the overall effect. it looks a like her hair is pinned back, or maybe plaited, with a few strands coming loose and flowing around her face.
after trying many, many companions and getting very frustrated with how none of them seemed to work, i settled on a black panther. it had wings, but robin's hair conveniently covered them up. the problem was that for a black panther look, she obviously needed to be wearing all black. when she was wearing all black, the panther blended into her completely. i decided to try and use sheer clothing items so that robin's skin would show through and provide a little contrast. that's how i ended up with this raspberry and antique spirit seeker skirt on.
the raspberry provided a beautiful contrast to the black, so i decided to try adding some more. that's when i accidentally discovered this horse.
i switched tracks immediately. combining antique gold, raspberry and offblack was ten times more visually interesting than trying to make an all black outfit. it also all looked wonderful with robin's skin tone.
i was still having trouble with the arms, because offblacks sleeves just disappeared completely into the horse's body. bare arms were ok, but they didn't look fancy enough with the rest of the outfit. i think these raspberry sleeves i settled on balance everything else beautifully.
the only real point of contention i had with this outfit was the feather. i loved the idea of robin having a feather to match the one her horse had, and the antique fixture looked so nice with the rest of the outfit... but the feather itself, obviously, is cream/white, and there isn't really any other matching element either in the horse's colour palette or in the rest of robin's outfit. i searched for alternatives but nothing looked as good, so in the end i decided... it's a neutral colour, and it doesn't clash with anything. it matches the theme of the outfit if not the colours, so i kept it.

🏇 Derby Day 🏇
Designer: The Dread Wolf Model: Isabelle Description:
When I saw that the theme asked for our models to be dressed similar to a pet companion, I knew that I wanted to use a corgi. Isabelle comes across as somewhat posh & corgis remind me of the Queen Elizabeth II. Giving Isabelle a corgi companion just felt right.
I began by choosing which corgi would match Isabelle's personality well. I settled on this corgi, wrapped in a purple shawl and sunglasses. From there, I tried to figure out a concept. I decided that a Derby-like look would be best. Derby looks tend to be a bit over-the-top luxurious. It made sense to me that Mr. Corgi would want to wear sunglasses to an outside event rather than to an inside event. So, a derby look it became!
I wanted Isabelle to look a bit over the top fancy, as the corgi was looking rather sumptuous himself. I did not want to match the corgi to the avatar exactly, so I originally opted to not use sunglasses or a purple shawl. However, after creating a few looks in my leisure time, I found the perfect sunglasses for Isabelle's look. After glancing at what I had as my final look, I thought that the addition of the sunglasses really did help to tie the look together. I still insisted on not putting Isabelle in a purple shawl, as to maintain some difference between Isabelle + Mr. Corgi. Instead, I draped Isabelle in purple. I was going to give Isabelle a closed skirt, but I liked how the bare legs allowed Isabelle to kinda of match the corgi's color scheme. Mr. Corgi has bare legs, so Isabelle will as well. A little leg never hurt anybody. Lastly, I gave Isabelle black tea gloves. I had originally chosen the black gloves to add some black around Isabelle's face, but the sunglasses have taken that role. Now, I feel that the black tea gloves draw the eye a bit more because of the sunglasses. I think it helps promote Isabelle's personality and adds a bit of fanciness. The last item I had added were the black sunglasses, but, prior to that, it was the background. I did not want Isabelle & Mr. Corgi to rest in front of a plain white backdrop. I thought the chosen background helped put derby-event into the brain, as Isabelle and Mr. Corgi are depicted as being out in the town.
Overall, I believe that this look captures what I aspired to create. I think that both Isabelle and Mr. Corgi look rather fancy & ready for their day at the races. Isabelle is draped in luxury and is ready to show off her matching pet. Mr. Corgi is well-protected from sun damage, but also wonderfully matching his owner.

◜Humans need fantasy to be human◝
The Lion Queen Designer: Haji Demon Model: Uma
Description:
First animal that came to my mind was this particular Lion when I thought of Uma, but I had quite a few other animal ideas to work with. It was hard to pick one. I particularly struggled with Phoenix one. I wanted to go for fiery flamenco dancer route a lot too, I ended up creating some designs and thought that none of them are good enough. They are nice, but at this point in competition I need a lot more. I decided to take on a mentor and contact Clot. This was invaluable. She pointed out many mistakes that should have been obvious to me considering a lot of them have been pointed out to me before. I was like- How did I not see this before? I improved on my Lion and Phoenix designs and added a couple of more creatures till we decided that Lion is definitely Uma's animal. With her help I tweaked it over and over. There are still things that I wish I could do better at following her advice, but its already the last day now and I have to admit to constraints of both my skills and gaia's tagging system.
With Lion wearing a crown, one thing was certain that this has to be a royal theme avatar. My first designs took inspiration from Gilgamesh but turned out to be a bit of color blob. The colors of the clothes and the lion blended in too well to tell them apart. I reworked it into something inspired by Mufasa from Lion King, then we slowly checked what works and what not in that 2nd design till it got to this one. One thing that was more of a challenge was finding right fur item. Uma's hair worked tremendously well with the lion as both of them have that flowing creamy look, but mane look felt incomplete without the fur, which itself has to be right enough to balance blending in well to not blending in so well that it looks like weird beard. Basically the biggest battle for this avi would be balancing every color I've used in right amount. Picking right color of ivory and creams to match lion and her hair, using right colors and amount of gold and reddish bronze to balance it with. I had to be careful that none of them just takes over the scheme as a whole. The other part of making this avi that was particularly interesting was boldness. We had to design an elegant queen but she also had to have the aura of a roaring lion! Most of my efforts went into giving her that commanding look. Her expressions were just oozing with that confidence, the dress was befitting a ruler, the last thing that remained was the stance. The armmods took care of it, some of what I went through made her look arrogant, some made her look clumsy, but the one I ended up with balanced proud and down to earth quite well. It gives me a sight thats inspiring!
Again, would like to point out that any fighting chance I have in this round is thanks to Clot Thickens biggrin EDIT: Also, I did not stretch the avi builder picture, this was made in customize avatar window as I thought its easier to work with and judge. I believe I got green light for that in past, but just cause I cant find the place where I asked the question, I am posting avi builder one here too-

Modern Magic Designer: elphiethesane Model: Ophelia
Will I ever have an entry that’s not in at the last minute? The world may never know.
Well, this was a tricky challenge for me. These kind of wide open challenges are never easy for me, as I’m left with so many options of where to go that I don’t know what to chose. Add in how I’ve been focused on wrapping up a summer class and the fact that my internet connection decided now would be a perfect time to slow everything to a crawl, and I’m honestly a bit surprised I managed to come up with anything at all.
My first thought, with this challenge, was to pick an animal that I thought suited her. I figured if I did, a theme would likely present itself in the process, and of course I’d hate to get attached to a theme only to not be able to find a suitable companion. The trouble was finding a pet that both suited Ophelia in coloring and personality. Her expression has always struck me as cool or stoic, even elegant, while her messy hair makes me think casual... Probably why I keep gravitating toward “cool girl” looks for her. I needed to find an animal that really suited that.
I tried cats first, because that seemed like a fitting choice. However, I struggled to find a cat that was more on the elegant end and matched her coloring. Most of the ones I tried were too cutesy, and Ophelia really isn’t the cutesy type. I tried horses after that, figuring I could emphasize the elegance factor, but I wasn’t satisfied with anything I tried, until I stumbled across the idea of using the shadow horse from Nightmare. It looked really cool, the dark black combining with her almost black hair in a really cool way, and I had this thought of doing a very textural look based on shades of black and dark brown. The fact that the horse was clearly made of shadow, too, made me think it’d be cool to make her some kind of magic user. Like the horse is her familiar, summoned from shadow.
Unfortunately, I could not find the items to make the idea work, and I spent way too long trying. I still think the color combo is really cool and I’m planning on trying again for my own purposes, but I could not come up with something that would work for this challenge or suited Ophelia. So it was back to the drawing board, and very late in the game. I didn’t want to try to come up with a completely different concept, so I decided to run with the “magic user and her familiar” idea, though now using her more casual, cool vibe to create a modern witch.
This final look started with the hat, as it was surprisingly hard to find a “witch hat” I liked. Most of the ones available were either too ornate for a casual look or too cutesy for Ophelia. There were a few patchwork style ones that I might have been able to make work, but I wasn’t sold on them working for Ophelia like I was with this hat. It’s simple and a bit elegant, which really worked for the kind of vibe I was going for. I then set off to find some other items to go with it, stumbling across that pet in the process. I loved how it wasn’t at all a real world animal, which seemed pretty cool for some kind of familiar, so I ran with it. Everything else just sort of fell into place around those couple of aspects as I tried to create a cool, casual look that had some suitable details for my modern witch (like the Ouija shirt and one of her necklaces being a sort of crescent moon shape). I also tried to further echo her familiar as much as I could, especially through keeping the bulk off her legs to echo it’s spindly ones, and through the large area that’s predominantly white to echo it’s large white head.
Overall, despite all my issues getting it done, I like the result. It may be simple, but it gets across exactly the vibe I was going for and has some nice details to keep it from being quite as simple as my previous entry.

Hi everyone! Sorry the feedback is so late. I am not sure when the next challenge is going to be posted but I want you to at least have closure for this challenge. We are going to try a different format where you will get a sentence/paragraph from each judge that wrote in. Hopefully this will make the feedback more clear and helpful.
Pianette (Jiang Li) Great use of companion, great color choice, nice to have them acting out a scene, not a fan of the headwing as it takes away the sleekness of the look and birds are very sleek.
The white pole/light stand is a little jarring in the background, but this is a great piece. Colors were extremely well balanced and complimentary to Jiang Li.
elphiethesane (Ophelia) This is gorgeous but it is pretty one note. There should be a little something that pops out.
You've made some thoughtful choices that really worked out and you match your companion very well.
sufjan stebens (Robin) Colors are matched well, and things look alike. But the two don't feel alike if that makes sense. It looks like one trying to dress like the other, but not like they really belong together. I did love the different choice of companion.
Good color matching but outside of the colors, she does not really resemble her companion beside the feather and I wish she had a more confident pose as her companion is a show pony.
RENstrawberry (Rae) Good color choice and the companion was a fun choice, you've been playing into Rae's paleness very well, however I don't think the streetwear really works here although I understand why you chose it.
Companion choice was fantastic. I think it could have done without the hat. Also more attention could be paid to colors, some of the things don't match quite right rather it's because the white is blue based vs yellow or just difference of pixels and shading.
Haji Demon (Uma) Cool companion choice and I like the matching gold crowns between them. Darker legs are killing me.
Good choice of companion what with Uma's mane of hair, however, there is an issue with balance like the dark legs with the red shoes with no other red in the outfit or the sole ivory item being the fur collar.
The Dread Wolf (Isabelle) Corgi definitely fits with Isabelle, the sunglasses were a good alteration as it really draws the look together; she looks very fancy and well balanced.
Isabelle is like a human corgi, so that was a great choice. Both look very fancy. The legs and arm look a little different skin from the face, and I think it is purely because of shading, but I'm aware of the difference between the three.
Practice Made Perfect Designer: RENstrawberry Model: Rae Description:
In this scene, Rae has returned to her old dance studio she practiced in as a child.
Rae had just come from her solo recital, up on the big stage, her first big real performance. She learned from an old classmate that attended the show to congratulate her that the lonely studio had finally been vacated and abandoned.
Still wearing her performance outfit, she wrapped up her goodbyes to everyone and hurried to see the familiar space.
The space was aged now. The vibrant paint of the studio’s walls turned pale. The small once cozy space, felt chilly. Rae wasn’t sure if it was because of the lack of students, or if it was the frail windows poorly insulating the space. The lights, half broken. The ceiling tiles, missing. The floor riddled with junk, yet strangely kept polished and shiny.
It was in the junk she saw it. The plush toy she begged to bring to class every day when she first began attending. The same toy she sat on her head to practice her balance after her instructor scolded her time and time again. She always practiced alone as a child, never in front of anyone. She laughed at how much she had changed.
Rae places the stuffed toy on her head once again. She breathes. Then begins. She soars across the small room, turning it into the large stage she danced on earlier in the night. She remembers the little girl she used to be, telling herself “practice makes perfect, balance is everything, balance is key, balance is beautiful” over and over again. This time the toy never slipped once. Not even when she bowed. She had mastered her art.
This water meat challenge knocked me HARD. Like yikes, I had no idea what to do. It’s such an old item I was so scared about the new and old pixel styles clashing. For Rae’s look, I combatted this fear by searching for water meat’s unique “white” color. I pulled from a couple schemes and items that literally had no scheme to give this final look. I began with her arms which came paired with the off the should sleeves. Choosing this started the entire story behind Rae’s look.
I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to find dancer’s legs that would fit with watermeat’s niche color palette. Luckily I did, and next up was the torso. I wanted a dress that looked like it could twirl, but many of the dresses that matched watermeat’s body all had terrible silhouettes on Rae. Luck struck once again when I was able to find her dress now, which helped to tie in the highlights, mid tones, and most importantly the shadows on watermeat.
The background consists of two layers. The first, the studio itself. I chose this background because it gave a somewhat aged feel. Next, was the wintry landscape in the windows. I really liked them empty (with the transparent background) but I was afraid out of context the transparency would ruin the scene. I chose this secondary background to keep the pale tone and not draw too much attention, like some of the other options.
For the finishing touches, I chose this lighting to really sell the idea that the studio was no longer properly lit. I also symbolically enjoyed it because it seemed like Rae is stepping into the light, just as she is beginning her professional career as a dancer. Lastly, were here earrings. I’m glad both sets of earrings I used layered awkwardly, because it allowed for her to wear two different earrings (to match watermeat of course!).

👾 Convention Time! 🌟
Designer: The Dread Wolf Model: Isabelle Description:
My initial reaction to this theme was confusion. I had no idea how I was going to make a look that incorporated water meat. The added difficulty of water meat being required to sit on Isabelle's head made thinking up a look rather troubling. However, after focusing on the essence of water meat . . . I stumbled upon this look.
Usually, Isabelle spends her time behind her desk. Her fingers move swiftly as she attempts to take down an enemy player. As she pushes her team to victory, thousands watch her gameplay and chat about her clutch victory. Isabelle is a streamer who operates under the username "Clementine" and water meat is her digital icon. Her viewers spam her stream chat with her iconic custom-made water meat icons. Water meat is her signature, it signifies Isabelle, or should I say "Clementine."
The first thing that I equipped was water meat. Since water meat was essential, I needed it to be visible throughout the creating process. I was unsure about colors to use. I originally thought to stick to orange, but I found that green helped balance the overall look. The jacket/arm pose was one of the early items I equipped. I liked how it posed Isabelle. It also showcased her gamer personality. I wanted to keep her pretty casual, since she was attended a convention. So, I put her in some cute melon green overall shorts. To give some personality and quirkiness to Isabelle, I put her in black knee-high high tops and gave her star hair clips. I found this also helped balance the black of Isabelle's outfit. The last item I equipped was the green glasses. I thought it helped tie-up the overall kinda nerdy/quirky vibe I was going for.
This was a hard challenge, but I think I was successful in what I was going for. It was at least better than some of my other ideas. I wanted Isabelle to become one with water meat. By adopting water meat into the essence of Isabelle, aka by establishing Isabelle's secret gamer side "Clementine," this was possible. By doing this I was also able to fully embrace the most difficult part of this challenge. Why was water meat on my model's head? Because it is her signature icon! The viewers who are attending the convention will see water meat above the crowd and know: There's Clementine! There is my favorite streamer Isabelle!

Their Protector I speak with the river that flows in the first afternoon Where does it come from and where does it go? Time never stops // The river changes endlessly and it lives on
"They say if you're kind enough to the creatures of the sea, you'll get a chance to meet her." "What? No way. Isn't that just some silly story parents tell their kids?" "So what if it i--" "Are you gonna go kick a dolphin?" "N-No....?" "Then what does it matter?? C'mon, let's get out of here." Nearby and just beneath the surface, she breathes a sigh of relief. The young ones are swimming in the shallows today. It's an important part of their growth. They don't need humans kicking them. ...Not that she would allow them to get that far. ---
I wanted to focus on the water aspect of the Watermeat. That I kind of knew from the start. But...going about that...
This is the second time I've tried to force Dandelion into a build. Last time I lost a LOT of it so I figured this would be the same. But it wasn't. Which kind of surprises me even now but I don't dislike it. It matches the Meat to a degree and really pulls in the water goddess vibe I ended up with. THAT SAID, Dandy is really an item pool I have had very little interaction with so there was a lot of throwing things at the wall to see what stuck. And a lot did, so there was quite a bit of editing and trimming but I like how the final product ended up looking.
The head was a challenging area for me. Not (seemingly) being able to put anything up there was a bit worrisome at first, but surprisingly the Watermeat is on a very nice layer? I thought that being so old it would be a real fighter but even pairing it with some things that weren't broken didn't knock it. I wanted to create kind of a headpiece to accentuate her features and the outfit and also eliminate the kind of void that was going on.
I initially tried pairing Watermeat off with newer versions of the creature, but it just didn't look right next to its kin equip. So I kinda just.... left it for a bit. Left him the only creature on there. The dolphins came much much later in the build. I like to imagine that they're something that Watermeat can aspire to be. Perhaps one day, he too can be as graceful as they are. The dolphins did come in when the background did. I wanted something that said ~water~ without being too bright and potentially competing.
Overall, I'm pleased with this. The Meat feels incorporated into the overall story and vibe even if not 100% through colors. Jiang Li is a calming and peaceful protector who will watch over these young creatures until they grow old. And when more are born, the cycle will repeat.
