Subject: Customs Frigate
Capsule:

Yet another space lane annoyance, The Rendili Star Drive Customs Frigate is usually seen alongside the Light Corvette and the Guardian Light Cruiser.
The name of this ship baffles me as it is clearly shorter and less well armed than its counterpart the Light Corvette, so the term Frigate isn't really acurate. I imagine the guys designing the ships must have been either spiced, drunk or confused.
Regardless, this ship is as fast as the Corvette and is armed with six heavy laser cannons, each turreted.
Its only 35 metersl long and only needs a 12 man crew. It can carry ten passengers and 100 metric tons of cargo, so its pretty much a lightweight compared to the corvette.
Usually it's a support ship to the light corvette and also like its bigger sister, its a popular knockoff and pirate target.

Capsule:

The third member of a typical galactic customs patrol group (The first two being Rendili's Custom Corvette and Frigate) Sienar Fleet Systems' 344 is an upgrade over the old version of the Light Cruiser (also a Sienar product) in that this ship has space for a ten man boarding crew in addition to a brig that can hold six prisoners.
Fast, tough and hard hitting, the 344 is a worthy teammate to the Customs Corvette and Frigate. At 42 meters long, she's armed with two high powered bow mounted lasers with two more in turrets. She's faster than an x-wing and is also equiped with a top notch hyperdrive.
The 344 is an extremely customizeable ship for a Sienar product. Several after market kits are available for it, such as a Turbolaser configuration kit and an external mounting bracket for six TIEs, though the ship's speed suffers after these mods.
Just like the other Custom vessels, this one is a popular ship on the black market.

A bigger verion of Gallofree's AA-9 Starfreighter, The ship used towards the begining of the Clone Wars as a refugee transport, The AA-12 is a four hundred meter long industrial transport.
For a freighter its a tough ship with a thick hull. shielding is minimal but it does boast four turbolaser turrets to keep the riff-raff away. Extensively automated, only eight men, gunners included are all it takes to keep this ponderous ship flying, and with 500,000 metric tons of cargo space it certainly pays for its self as a cargo ship.
Despite the arms and armor, this big hulker sticks to convoys and patrolled space lanes, where its slow speed, minimal crew and massive holds don't ensure Pirate attacks.

Yeah, you might not think Cale Darksun knows his history, But when you've been around the galaxy as much as I have you hear a thing or too. So pull up a chair younglings and let me tell you about some of the hardest working barves the galaxy has ever seen.
When you think of Republic Commandoes, most people's first thought is to the bloodthirsty ARC troopers.
But there was another breed of clone, not quite an ARC, and not quite a regular clonetrooper, but something in between.
They were trained to fight as four man teams from the minute they were released from their cloning tanks by instructors handpicked by Jango Fett. They were trained killing machines, Schooled on the more shadowy arts of war. Their mission profiles included Sabotage, Recon, Infiltration, Subterfuge, Assasination, Hostage Extraction and a host of others.
They were highly successful at their jobs, often being able to take on incredible odds to accomplish their objectives to the point that it would make a Corellian proud.
Clone Commandoes were given top notch equipment, though, like alot of the gear used by the Grand Army of the Republic, at first it wasn't practically designed. Their Katarn comando armor for example, was silvery grey in color. It wasn't very good for camoflage, though the troopers usually found ways to obscure it, and led to the rest of the Grand Army calling them "shinies".
Their primary weapons were the DC-17m Interchangable Weapon System, the 15s Sidearm pistol, and a Vibroblade they could eject from their armor's knuckle plate at the twitch of their wrist. Usually they would augment themselves with weapons they aquired on the battlefield, such as missle launchers, heavy blasters, and mining explosives.
During the collapse of the Republic and the rise of the Empire, Several clone commando units went rogue, refusung to follow orders given to them to hunt down Jedi. The rest were adapted into the fledgling Storm Commando project to become squad leaders and instructors until Crix Madine revolutionized the concept of Special Forces many years later.

Subject: Open Circle Fleet
Capsule:

One of the largest fleets of the Clone Wars, the Open Circle Fleet aka the Open Circle Armada was composed of at least five sector fleets and was under the comand of General Obi-wan Kenobi. Composed of a Mix of clone, jedi, and non clone personel, the Open Circle Armada served admirably in the Outer Rim Sieges and became a thing to dread to the CIS forces it engaged.
Due to its composition, of several sector fleets, the Open Circle Armada could engage multiple battlefronts at once, a tactic which allowed it to respond rapidly to sudden Sepratists threats.
The Fleet itself was composed of thousands of ships, including Acclamators, Victories, Venators, and Dreadnaughts.
In response to the situation at Coruscant, the entire Circle Fleet was deployed but the Venators' superior Hyperdrive allowed them to arrive first on the battlefield, at which point they deployed their fighters and immediately engaged the enemy, taking down the Invisible Hand, the Confederate flag ship as well as a huge chunk of the enemy armada before it retreated.
This would prove to be the Circle Armada's last battle as a complete armada. After the battle, the fleet was split up to hunt down the fleeing Sepratists. Then during the shift from republic to empire, the fleet would be permanently split up and reasigned.

Subject: Spice
Capsule:
User Image
Ah yes. Spice. the narcotic gold mine. A man can get very rich trafficing in spice. Of course he's just as likely to wind up very dead.
What is Spice you ask? Spice is a very valuable substance, produced organically by a biosystem, that enhances biological processes or experiences.
Man they're fun.
The term spice is taken from the fact that the earliest collected spice, Andris, was origionally used as just that. spice. It used to be used as a preserving agent and a food seasoner, like salt. Until someone decided to inhale straight Andris. the rest is history.
Now, since Im such a nice guy, Im gonna go indepth on the more wellknown spices in the galaxy. Take note kiddies, that not all spices are illegal or addictive.

Andris: The earliest known and most common spice, Andris is mined on Sevaracos. In its natural state is tan in color and crumbly. In this form a credit will get you ten grams. Pricy, but indispensible in the true Gourmand's kitchen. The drug form is a refined white crystalline powder that'll sharpen your senses for a bit, but not by much. this stuff runs you 50 credits a ten gram dose. Both of these forms are legal in most places. The third and final form of Andirs is ultra refined. Very illegal, Highly addictive, and Capable of boosting your senses to jedi like abilities, all for 500 credits a pop, depending on who is selling it to you.

Carsunum: Now we're talking the good stuff. Carsunum is the Black Spice, so named because of its color. Its also mined on Sevaracos but ten grams of this will cost you a cool 1k. Black Market Only. possecion of this stuff is enough to get you minning it, but man is it worth it. Suck back some of this stuff and you'll get a boost to your mental and physical abilities, plus a real good buzz for between one and six hours, depending on the dose. The downside is that comming off the stuff could very possibly kill you, even after one dose. then theres the lissless nes, the possible poison effects, jitters, headaches, and a whole host of other side effects.

Glitterstim: Good old Kessel Glit. This stuff is one of the most resticted substances in the galaxy. At a minimum of 6000 credits a dose, even in places where its legal, it certainly lives up to its title. They sell the stuff in special canisters because light activates it. If swallowed while activated, the spice grants you the ability to read the surface thoughts of others for a short time, like a minute. while not ormally addictive, if enough is taken, one becomes a paranoid, delusional spice freak. Ive seen c**t addicts freak out because they couldn't read the thoughts of people they were talking to through the holonet. Pretty sad.

Ryll: One of the more well known spices, Ryll comes to us courtesy of Ryloth. Medically its legal, but expensive. But with the euphoria and wicked hallucinations it gives its users, It's little wonder why theres such a thriving black market rhyll trade. Refined ryll is a fine ligh blue dust and worth 40 credits a dose. Be careful with this stuff though. Its very addictive.

Kassoti: a red powder from Naboo's moon, this stuff is usesd as an anesthetic and also has euphoric benefits. Running price is about 4 credits a pop. pretty cheep stuff.

Joydust: Lowgrade spice that gives you a buzz. Usually produced synthetically, it's a white powder that glistesns when exposed to white lite, much like Glitterstim. What separates this stuff from glit is that its not addictive and is about as restiricted as lum. Its a cheep feel good substance. Little more.

Cale
and now here's a slightly expanded list!

Crude: Usually only available in capsule form, this drug is a powerful psychotropic spice. It makes you loose your inhibitions and morals for a time, making you selfishly pursue your base instincts.

Lesia: a purple mold scrapped off a rare lizard, it doesnt have any real buzz to it. Its popular because it eliminates the need to sleep and lengthens the lifespan, though at the cost of your brain's moral centers.

Subject: Tibanna Gas
Capsule:
User Image
Everybody knows what Tibanna gas is.
This is for those of you that don't know.
No need to thank us, thats what the guide is there for.

Tibanna gas is a naturally occuring element found primarily on gas giant worlds and in the atmospheres of several terestrial worlds. Worlds that have it include Taloraan in the Expansionist region and Bespin.
Tibanna gas is valueable in the fact that its the primary source of ammo for high powered blasters and lasers. Oh sure, you could use other substances to trigger the chemical reaction that creates a laser bolt, but nothing works better than Tibanna. Also, aside from its more lethal capabilities, Tibanna is used comercially as a hyperdrive coolant.
Now, what makes Bespin such a rich little world is that its the only place on the record where Tibanna is naturally spin sealed.
Spin Sealing is a fancy way of saying the gas is compacted at the atomic level. This creates a more powerful conducting agent in lasers and thus produces a far more powerful bolt. Normally this process is expensive as hell. On Bespin, some make up of the atmosphere duplicates this process naturally, thus cutting that expensive proceedure out of the picture and allowing Cloud City to drag in huge amounts of cred for a cheaper yet just as effective product.
Lately research has gone into synthetic tibanna with promising results.
While spin sealed stuff is still best, It won't be too long before all the tibanna in the galaxy will be replaced by a synthetic version.

Millions of years ago, it was a lush, fertile world, with forests and jungles, if you can believe that! However, an atmospheric cataclysm has rendered it the now icy tomb-like planet that we know today.
Now barren of life, it houses snowy tundra and mountains, as well as the ruins of an ancient civilization.
In short, there's not a lot to see, unless you happen to be a fan of ancient architecture. It is said that the tomb of Ulic Qel-Droma is there, for you Jedi buffs out there.
It is also said that the remains of a superweapon powered by the Force called the Dark Reaper lies there, as well, which is the sole reason Count Dooku and the CIS came a snooping about the old iceball with nifty ruins. Thankfully, Anakin Skywalker disabled said weapon, with the information found at old Ulic's grave.

Subject: Nebulon Ranger

Capsule: User Image

Being the jedi this article's author is, and being quite intrigued with older ships, this article is more about something that has little relevance to the outlaw. But it could help you win a trivia contest with a jedi, despite the chances of that happening are greater than a farmboy navigating an asteroid field.

The Nebulon Ranger was a predominant ship 4,000 years before the collapse of the Old Republic and the rise of the Empire. It was a Corellia Stardrive Coruscant-class Heavy Courier... back then, considered a capital ship of quite a lot of firepower, before the influx of massive ships like Super Star Destroyers and Mon Cal Cruisers were considered the "norm".

Back in the age where Jedi and sith flourished, the blaster was about as common as a lightsaber, and most real outlaws and soldiers knew how to use a vibrosword, the Nebulon Ranger was the ship of the Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma, his brother Cay, and the Twi'lek Jedi Tott Doneeta, key players in the Great Sith War.

As with all ships of the same model, it was a large, multisectioned ship with two main series of engine arrays mounted on a right-angle starframe. This provided easy maneuverability and access to the engine, without need for maneuvering jets. It also featured retractible wings for atmospheric flight. This main wing was heavily armored (I wonder why?) and contained the fuel tanks with fed into the six AlderaanMotors power generators and engine arrays, and still had enough room for the airlock and sensor array pylon. Of course, as with most sensor arrays, it gave a better sensitivity and range at the expense of a complete lack of combat durability.

Eight shield generators protected the Ranger completely. But even a ship this large had trouble feeding them. While it provided a near-inpentetrable defense, they were so thirsty that they were only raised during combat... which is not everyone's favorite tactic. But, the Ranger did have a forward firing pulse cannons with enough power to slice through ANY pirate's ship, as well as a retractible, rotating laser cannon on each wingtip and a more powerful laser cannon at the base of the second engine array. Also, each mandible had forward firing linked proton torpedo launchers, with a magazine of six, as well as a short range concussion sphere launcher with a magazine of eight. All these provided a very fierce offense, and all with the comfort of being controlled from a single dedicated gunnery station in the cockpit.

The Nebulon Ranger had enough room for living and cargo sections, with three escape pods. A drop bay allowed for airspeeders to be dispersed in an instant to suprize attackers.

The Ranger was destroyed over Onderon by a single seeker proton torpedo, launched as a sneak attack by the beast riders.

Subject: Darth Maul (54 BBY - 32 BBY)

Capsule: User Image

Examining the history of the Sith and Jedi conflict, along with the Trade Federation, specifically the time around the Battle of Naboo, the name Darth Maul may be found and brought up.

Born on Iridonia, Maul was of course a Zabrak, which would eventually help foster his demonic image. Little is known about how he fell into Darth Sidious's hands, but the Zabrak did manage to become the apprentice. Taught by pain, fueled by anger, Maul grew to be what most Sith desire in an apprentice: an emotionless tool fueled by only bloodlust and rage. By his teenage years, he was a precision weapon of malice, and sith tatoos marked all across his muscular body, creating a fearsome appearance, and to many, the visage of a demon.

Suprizingly, Maul held an admiration, almost a son-like love for his master (well, until the time came he was to take the mantel of sith lord). Never did he ever contemplate the act of killing, nor any malice, vehemonce, or any other adjective of derogatory condemnation towards his master. Until his test.

Abandoned on an outer rim world, to be hunted by legions of assassin droids, Maul managed to survive for a full month, when his master returned demanding a duel to the death. Maul lost to his master, just barely, but displayed such ferocity and bloodlust, and the will to kill his master, Sidious decided to let his apprentice live, even grant him in all his merciful generosity the title of "Darth". This was probably the closest Sidious ever came to death for nearly a decade, before almost losing to Mace Windu.

Maul was a weapon of terror, but this did not mean he was by far unintelligent. His body learned the ways of Jar'Kai, and the philosophy and lightsaber style of Juyo, along with various martial arts and acrobatic moves which would challenge many experienced Jedi to their limits. He developed his signature dual saberstaff by himself after reading several holocrons, and took the idea from Exar Kun.

Maul was also quite a mechanic. Some might even compare him to Anakin Skywalker in his knowledge and skill of both being a skilled force user and a mechanic. Maul was given unlimited resources to create several creations of his, such as his speeder bike Bloodfin, his Dark Eye seeker droids, and boasting a design that would later evolve into the TIE series of Sienar, the Sith Infiltrator Scimitar.

For years, Maul took assassination missions to help stir up conflict, slaying many top notch officials. It was around 32 years before the Battle of Endor that this very kind of mission would take his life.

Sidious sent Maul to kill the jedi trying to solve the conflict on Naboo. Tracking them to Tatooine, the Jedi Knight Qui-gon Jinn escaped his grasp. Bent on revenge, Maul decided to literally hunt them down at all costs, even going so far as to take on both Teacher and Padawan at the same time.

Displaying his true mastery of the duel, Maul was quite adept at holding both Jedi off. The battle raged on, before the Jedi pair was separated. This gave Maul the advantage, with his victory over Qui-gon. But growing overconfident, Maul enraged the pupil, Obi-wan Kenobi, and was eventually slain by a complete slice, severing him in half, and falling to his doom down into the melting pit... in silence.

While Maul was defeated, his prescence still lived on, as the Dark Side reanimated his spirit to fight Anakin Skywalker in a cave, not very unlike that which Luke fought another manefestation of the Dark side. Anakin was victorious, but it is for sure that this Zabrak may yet still be a restless spirit.

Subject: KDY Class 100 Cruiser
Capsule: User Image

The Empire may have Star Destroyers up the wazoo, but they can't be everywhere at once. And where a major battleship can't be placed, they have to find a substitute. The boys at Kuat Drive Yards built that substitue.
The Class 100 cruiser hardly registers as a cruiser. At 300 meters its more like a frigate. Make no bones about it though; this baby can really ruin someone's day.
Designed to patrol remote reaches of the Empire, places that don't need a star destroyer or a full sized cruiser, such as the Minos Cluster and the edge of Wild Space. With a squad of Ties, 28 Turbolasers, and 12 Ion cannons, the class 100 is capable of engaging those irritatingly heavily modified pirate ships that dwell in the empty areas of space, not to mention ripping apart most ships her size or smaller. Standard crew compliment is 580 with 80 gunners and 200 troops. For a ship this small her cargo hold is suprisingly small at only 500 tons, but then again I'm more used to refited freighters and Corellian ships.
Decent Hull and shields, a good pair of legs, she gets the job done a fair sight better than most ships relegated to a patrol situation. What hurts her though is her civilian Class 2 hyperdrive. Pray that doesnt crap out or you're stuck with her back up Class 12.
With the Empire falling back and pulling up their borders, these ships are seen more and more patroling inner systems. KDY, being the amoral buisnessmen that they are, also make a tidy profit selling these to interested parties with a need for what they call a "Light Cruiser."

Subject: Sith Species
Capsule:
User Image
Sith society lasted as such for hundreds of millenia - from roughly 130,000 BBY to 7,000 BBY. Except for the brief unification of their species under King Adas, Sith society was fragmented, with many individual Sith Lords ruling indepedent fiefdoms, most of them attempting to claim Adas' title of Sith'ari and unite their kind. The Sith species originated on the planet Korriban.
Circa 28,000 BBY, Adas, marked as a chosen one from a young age by his unusual black skin, united the nations of Korriban in violent warfare. He took the title of Sith'ari, meaning "overlord", and was seen by his people as an immortal being who would rule forever.

Eventually the Rakata arrived on Korriban. Pretending to ally themselves with Adas at first and giving him the technology of holocrons, they soon revealed their intentions and attempted to conquer the Sith. Adas and the Sith fought back and drove off the forces of the Infinite Empire, with the king giving his life in the process. Without Adas's strong hand, Korriban soon collapsed into civil war, with many claiming themselves Sith'ari. The massive infighting eventually forced the Sith to relocate their capital to Ziost.
Around 7,000 BBY, Dark Jedi exiles fleeing from the Galactic Republic after their defeat in the Hundred Year Darkness, established themselves as "divine" rulers over their native Sith, uniting the world once again, this time under the rulership of a Dark Lord of the Sith. Over the generations, the Sith interbred with the Human Dark Jedi through a practice of the intermixing of human and Sith bloodlines which became known as Sith Alchemy. Eventually, the Sith species in its original form was almost extinct.

During the Great Hyperspace War in 5,000 BBY, the Dark Lord Naga Sadow fled to the jungle moon of Yavin 4 along with a contingent of Massassi followers to escape the pursuing Jedi and the Galactic Republic. There, Naga Sadow committed cruel experiments on his own Massassi warriors which resulted in them becoming Dark Side wielding savages.
Due to their history of association with Dark Side Force users, the word 'Sith' went on to be used by many dark side organizations not connected with the original Sith species.
Notable Sith included Naga Sadow, Ludo Kressh and Marka Ragnos.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons may be no match for a good blaster at your side, but you'll never know when you'll not have that blaster handy or when it'll run out on you.
And when that happens, your best friend may just be the Razor model Vibrocutlass.

Manufactured by the genius' of LaserHone, this weapon is a great tool for anyone. It's a short weapon capable of fencing with if you have the skill, yet with a blade heavy enough to cut through power cables, stormie armor, and the vibro rapier of the guy attacking you. The sword's blade is incredibly durable even able to be used for a prybar if you lack one, and the basket hilt is great for bashing people's faces in. The blade is also just as sharp as the model line indicates, offering great cutting ability, even when turned off.
Perhaps this weapon'f best feature is that, like all LaserHone products, it makes no noise when its activated. (Unless you can hear into the ultrasonic.)
This baby is pretty affordable at 175 credits and is a must for any space pirate, or anyone in need of a good Machete. It also looks pretty good as a decorative piece for a naval uniform.

If you're not satisfied with the amount of light you're throwing downrange, then the nerds at Merr-Sonn have the thing for you.
How many bolts can this baby spit out? Roughly 166 a second. If that ain't enough for you then you've got a problem.
The Z-6 isn't a weapon for lightweights. Its a heavy toy for bigger boys and with the recoil on this thing its a wonder why the guys using it aren't thrown onto their asses by it. And of course theres the natural problem of ammo consumption that accompanies this bad boy. It eats blaster gas and energy like a Hutt. But that shouldn't really be a problem for someone using this piece of portable artillery. Merely facing the buisness end of it is often enough to end a confrontation.

What is it with Merr-Sonn and big weapons? seriously. the Plex, the Z-6, the E-web(jointly produced with Blastech), now this thing.
This thing gives me goosebumps. In a bad way.
The Cip-Quad, like its production cousin the Z-6, was first introduced during the Clone Wars. It proved to be an effective Anti-personnel and Ant-armor blaster weapon, ruining many a Sepratist Tanker's career. The quad blaster is mounted on an articulated and powered harness, fitted with microrepulsorlift buoyancy cells that help reduce the overall weight of the heavy cannon, though the powerpack required to operate it is still heavy as hell. It requires a suit of protective armor and a special helmit to operate this gun as the Heat it puts off is considerable and only with targetting software can it be used effectively.
