You could use them for the mystery projects.

They would be perfect for that actually...

The headphone sleeves weren't that bad. I knit them up on a long trainride. If you can knit i-cord, you can knit those. And if you can't knit i-cord you can probably still make them. I learned to make i-cord while I was making them.

1. Cast on 3-4 stitches on a double pointed needle.
2. Knit them
3. Slide the stitches over to the other end of the dpn
4. Don't turn your work before knitting the stitches again! Just pull the working yarn back to the beginning and knit them. (If you knit headphone sleeves you'll need to make sure the cord is between your work and the working yarn)
5. Try to keep things tight, but if the i-cord is looking wonky you can just roll it between your fingers to even things out.

Just keep doing that, knitting the same stitches over and over again. You'll get a thin cord or tube. The headphone cord will be knit into the center of the tube.

Did that make sense or should I try to find a better tutorial?

EDIT: http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/misc.php Scroll down a bit for a video.
