Well, not first... *shoves ugly, hole-y, garter stitch scarf under bed* But the decent ones. They're both from Knitgrrl. So, err... right, pictures:

I was wondering, the connecting stitch of the first round is loose. Do I just need to knit tighter next time?
And any ideas on what to do with an extra 195 yds of yarn? xd

Love the hat and cute cat. As to the spare yarn- make something, of course! ^^

The hats turned out great! Very nice job!!

As for helping tighten the connecting stitches - when you connect, make your connecting stitch, and when it is completed and sitting on you right needle, take the yarn and pull it nice and tight. It should tigethen up the connection. This also works when you are knitting straight when you come to the end of a row for neat tight rows ends.

As for suggestions on how to use up the leftover yarn, i think the idea bin is being stored here:

good luck!!

Knitgrrl has some great beginner's patterns. I love their hat pattern, and still use it after years of knitting.

It's called Camouflage by Bernat. I think I got it from Hobby Lobby...

No, Max must've eaten Bueno and absorbed his genes... that would explain so much...

that is actually a very nice hat.

as for you left over yarn, make another hat

Garter stitch for 18 (19,20) inches. (about 75 rows) with size 6 needles

then pull up loops along the long side of the garter stitch with size 8 needles. Proceed in stockinete stitch for 2 1/2( 3, 3 1/2) inches then decrease one at both ends of the row until 5 stitches remain. cast off leaving long tail for sewing. sew hat together and fold brim in half and sew in place. crochet a chain and make a tassel and attach it!

that is the simplified version of it, if it makes sense at all.

Enjoy!

When I join I usually grab both the working yarn and the tail from casting on and knit the first three or so stitches using them held together. It secures the tail end and makes the connection a bit stronger.
