Ivie, looking a little under-nourished and weak, emerged from the den to breathe in the first fresh air for a few days. She was quick to learn that being a single mother wasn't easy and was beginning to appreciate what her own mother had done. She'd had no one to help feed her and now she had six hungry cubs that had yet to be weaned.
They had, however, since opened their eyes and had been tottering around the den since yesterday getting into all sorts of mischief. She smiled, arched her back and glanced up at the sky. Atleast the day looked pleasant, the perfect weather for parading her precious family around the lands.
Maybe...maybe she'd bump into Fedha. Though in all honesty, thinking about meeting Fedha with her little horde in toe was a bit nerve racking. No, it was best to wait until they were a little older. That way she could help her children understand her own predicament.
"Come on then, all of you." She turned her head back into the den and glanced. Were any of them away yet?"
Atleast one cub was awake. One of Ivie's daughters, named Nissa. She skittered clumsily up to the entrance and pushed roughly out between her mother's forepaws, pausing so that Ivie's legs protected her sides.
"Ouch. The sun is bright mama." She squinted into the world, wrinkling her little nose into an unappreciative grimace. "Too bright!" She raised one paw to shield her eyes but lost balance and tipped sideways, hitting the ground before she could even register what had happened. "Ouch!" She wriggled to her paws and whirled around on her mother, putting on a pouty expression that made her look awfully cute. "Mother! Why does the light hurt my eyes?" She demanded, stamping a little paw on the ground.
"I don't like it!"

Phusa was also awake and really didn't want to get out of the den, she was comfy curled up around her siblings but when Nissa got up she thought she might as well. She could always curl back up with them again later!
"Mother why can't we sleep for a bit more? It's warm and comfy in there and not blinding either!" She mentioned blinding as she walked out the den and the sun his her young blue eyes. How annoying, she was now going to be blinded and it was her mothers fault! At least she would get more attention and she craved attention!

A green little face topped with a tossled black mane peeked out from the warm pile of cubs and yawned widely. Akono blinked, looking without understanding in his sleepiness, at the three silhouetted against the light from outside. Another small yawn and a flex of his paws - mmm, nap time must be over. It was so nice and warm curled up ith his remaining siblings...
But what was momma and his two sisters up to? Akono didn't want to be left out! So he untangled himself, stretched himself and ambled over. His blue eyes squinted at the light until they adjusted.
"Are we all going out now...?"

The cub shivered as a cool breeze hit the spot his brother had vacated. It was COLD all alone! Bem squeezed his eyes shut as tight as he could and curled himself up, ears pinned and sea-green tail wrapped around his small black nose. If he didn't open his eyes, it wouldn't be time to get up yet...
Voices reached him, some high pitched and young, and one soft and mellow. One blue eye cracked open. Something about going... outside?
This time Bem didn't feel the chilly air on his body. Outside! He'd never gone outside before! The cub struggled to his feet and extracted himself clumsily from his other siblings. "Oof! Sorry!" ... he hoped he hadn't kicked Njalo too hard. The cub licked his brother's head tuft apologetically before toddling over to his mother's side.
"Time ta go?" He inquired hopefully, bright blue eyes fixed on the open landscape before him. How wonderful! So full of new things!

"Yes, all up and out now." She glanced to the last remaining cubs still tucked up asleep and smiled. "It's time to stretch your legs." At the few complaints she beamed. "Now, now Nissa, Phusa, do you really want your brothers to have all the fun without you?" She rasped her tongue across Nissa's head then hooked her nose behind her and gave her a nudge.
She was confused but extremely glad that touching her cubs gave her no visions what-so-ever. She could groom them and hug them close and not be fearful that she might glance into their future. And thank the gods that none of them had shown to carry the trait themselves, though maybe she could persuade a few to pretend so that they could act up to Fedha.
Six cubs... She thought. Will you really believe they are yours, love? She spared a thought to Dharba, kindly, loving Dharba who had tried everything in his power to make her forget. He had blessed her with these children but...but he had not stolen her heart. Not yet anyway.
No, she had to get over Fedha first.
Shaking her head to rid it of thoughts of Fedha and Dharba, she smiled down at her youngsters. "Come on then. Let's go breathe in the fresh air." She turned back to nuzzle Phusa and then purred enticingly to her boys. She saw so much of her parents in her children. It warmed her heart to think of the days when her family had all been together.
Mother. Father. Kikore and her fiery sister Vitashki. She knew where mother was...and Kikore to. But what of her sister and father? Again, shaking those memories away she stepped out into the sunlight."
Nissa, determined not to let her brothers have all the fun in the bright world skittered forwards the moment her mother nudged her forwards. "I'll lead the way!" She squeaked competitvely, stomping forwards on clumsy legs. It took her a good while for her eyes to get used to the brightness of "World" but when they did Nissa's little mouth swung open as if on a hinge.
It was all so huge, so vast and strange. Some may have been scared by such a sight but from that moment Nissa was entranced. She wanted to get out there, explore everything there was to explore.
"Come on!" She squeaked to her siblings, and as if to show them she wasn't afraid she began to totter further away.
A cricket bug leapt up from beneath her feet, startling the podgy cub so much that she lost her footing and fell to the floor with a thump. Her squeal of fright muffled in the grass.

"Oomph!" said Njalo as his brother kicked him in the side. It was not, however, and the little green cub was rather happy that Bem woke him up. Truth was that Njalo was a rather deep sleeper; after all, he was so energetic during the time he was awake that it only made sense he used every moment on sleep-time to regain as much energy as possible.
"Wait for me," the green-eyed cub called as he scurried to catch up to his siblings.
"We get to go out, Mommy?" Njalo beamed at his mother, ready to explore the world around him. He wriggled over to follow Nissa-- if he couldn't be first, he was definately going to be second.

Not to be outdone, and seeing no harm had come to Njalo or Nissa, Akono decided it was his turn. Living up to his name. He couldn't be the first outside but he could be the boldest! With a happy growl he bounded off, as fast as his little legs could carry him, straight into the grass and past Nissa.
Outside! It was overwhelming and massive and there were so many scents and it was so bright and it was harm to take in all at once. But he laughed and stopped before he got too far, waiting for everyone to come out too.

Phusa just stood there,
"But muuuuuuuuum! It's too bright. It will blind me if I go out there!" She was being over dramatic, she knew it wouldn't hurt her but she would get the attention if she kicked up a fuss! After all it's not about getting outside first, it's about who can kick up the biggest fuss and get the attention. Phusa was the queen of kicking up a fuss over nothing!

Bem didn't need any more encouragement than that. With a squeak of joy the cub trotted slowly forward, careful to keep his wayward paws under control.
The same bug that scared Nissa, though in all honesty it was more her frightened cry than anything that set him off. With a shriek the cub backed up as fast as he could, eyes wide and ears pinned. What horrid monster lurked, to frighten his sister so much? What cub-eating demon was there? --
-- the bug lept forwards and Bem fell back on his haunches. ... strange. It was so TINY. Curiousity overcoming fear, the cub crept forwards and batted at the small insect.
"Nissa, come look! It's not -- EEK!"
He scrambled back again as the tiny cricket chirped and sprang forward. Whoa! How did it DO that?

Watching her little ones scrambling up for freedom made her swell with love and pride. They were all so sweet, so small and even now they had all developed their own little personalities. She hoped they would enjoy their cubhood whilst it lasted. Soon they'd be older and then the realisation that life wasn't all happy would set in.
She sighed. She might have done a lot of things wrong but she would do her best to keep them innocent and sweet for as long as possible.
"Be careful little ones." She called, laughing as they all tried to make it out first. Her little swarm. She loved them all.
She paused and glanced to her daughter, Phusa. "Come now little Phu, it won't blind you. Your eyes will get used to it and then you'll see all the wonders out there." She rubbed a cheek against the top of her daughter's head, giving the cub the attention that she wanted.
Her head snapped up again at Nissa and Bem's squeak of surprise and she moved out after them, hoping that Phusa would follow. "What have you found there?"
Nissa, too afraid to speak coherently, bounced back, lost her balance and sprawled across the floor again, suddenly desperate to get away from the weird monster. Having Bem there didn't help either, he seemed to have brought our the worst in the creature and now it was jumping all over the place!
"It'll bite choo, Bem!" She warned, looking up as her mother towered over her. "Look mother! A monster!" She moved to cower behind her mother's foreleg, looking at the cricket which seemed to be resting. "Bem made it mad."

"It will to! Look its evil evil evil!" She did however get annoyed when her siblings seemed to get their mothers attention. That wasn't fair! She wanted all her mothers attention. Silly siblings. It did however get her to move.
She ran infront of her mother and over to Nissa and Bem, maybe then she would get the attention? She hoped so. Though when she saw the creature she looked at it and decided it wasn't worth her time because it looked all yucky but it was getting attention. Maybe she should act like stupid little bug? She was curious. She watched it for a little longer then watched her mothers reaction before contemplating actually acting like a stupid bug.

Njalo was slow to notice the bug, but when he did, he was fascinated. Only a few seconds into the bright world and they had found something interesting. What else did the world hold to be discovered? The green-eyed boy clambered over to commotion. He lowered his head to the ground and stared at the small bug. His face reflected at him in the large, round eyes of the insect.
"Eww! Look at its eyes, they all bulgy and gooey!" said Njalo. Frankly, the thing creeped him out. He glanced from Bem and Nissa freaking out over the bug to Phusa staring at it (was that envy on her face?) to Akono, farther out in the clearing. His eyes then drifted towards his mother, to whom he asked, "Ma, what is it?"
