His life so far had been a slow drift through a barren canyon of nothingness. With only a tree for shade and grass for company -aside from serving as food - he had lived a hollow existence day in and day out. But since having his mediocre life turned over by a lioness and cub, it had been anything but boring. But the grass is always greener on the other side. He never saw any incident that happened to him as better than what had been happening. Actually, the only one he saw as good was escaping from that lioness.
However since it involved a very feline waterbuck and had pushed him deep into lion territory, he was a bit nervous now. And a bit doubting too of what she wanted. It seemed almost like she was as slippery and cunning as the lions. Maybe she desired to actually kill him. Maybe secretly, she was a cannibal and fed on flesh of her companions and this was all a lure to get him by himself.
And yet, despite all these barriers he was creating for himself and fears to put him on edge, he followed her dutifully. Maybe it was the constant ego-boosting she offered. Or the fact that she was one of his kind and he was fascinated to with having found one. Or it could be that he didn't really want to be alone deep down inside. But whatever it was, it was masked by his constant foretelling of his death ...or torture. And he felt a little more edgy knowing she was good at reading others and probably knew just what he was thinking. It was definite that he didn't like others getting negative enjoyment out of him. Definitely.

Indeed, Taika was a happy little thing (or not to little, for waterbucks were not entirely too small, alas, that was unrelated to the actual fact); she found that the male's company was not only amusing, but actually quite nice. She was so used to being alone, or merely surrounded by lions that she'd forgotten what it felt like to be with another waterbuck. Even one as jumpy and fidgety as this one was, "Relax, hold your head up straight; you're the leader here! Show 'em!" it was whispered lightly at him as she munched at some grass; the fact he kept looking over his shoulder, as if afraid something would pounce him, amused her to no end.
Then again, she forgot that this was entirely normal, and that she was, in fact, the one out-of-the-norm. Not many bucks allowed themselves to relax within lion territory. Taika was just slightly... special, one could say. Maybe it was her lack of fear, or maybe it was something else. Whatever it was, it made her a strange company of choice; as it was, she kept on appealing to his ego as much as she could, specially during their trip there, and she'd found that so long she kept up that facade, the male would be eating straight out of her paw- er hoof. Yup. Hoof.Curiosity; such a strange thing, and yet Tsi'hilu knew it was fully to blame in such a situation. The pale lioness found herself padding through the land in search of a certain waterbuck, rather than spending time with her new-found mate, or otherwise talking to the lions of the Sky Clan before she parted to roam the El'wadiyi lands. Try as she might however, she found she simply could not ignore the curiosity that threatened to overwhelm her; she had to find out what Taika had meant when she said she'd found a 'new toy'. Never would she have been able to phantom the scene that greeted her up ahead.
Tilting her head, she approached silently, reaching the bucks' side, leaning in to take a long sniff at the male's neck, "This is your to-""Alpha male!" the words were chirped swiftly, before the lioness could hope to talk any more, causing her to arch a delicate brow up."I... see," came the calm chuckle as Tsi'hilu re-directed her attention to the male, settling her form down on the ground; she wished to see his reaction to her, alas, somehow she could see why Taika was amused, even though nothing had happened yet, "Make sure to keep him out of Nyota's way," she said with a small smile, "Everyone around here knows you, but him... he's new," of course, she knew that if the male stayed with Taika he was relatively safe, however she felt the need to poke a bit of fun at the situation. Taika's answering smirk told Tsi'hilu all she needed to know before she carried herself over to the male's side and flopped herself down, sitting in an almost awkwardly feline position, "No worries! He's perfectly safe with me!" this was yet to be seen however.

Radi was frozen stock-still much like a rabbit nose to nose with a fox until Taika's words, which under normal circumstances, he would have scoffed at. They made him relax in such a situation. Because really, he was at their mercy ...unless he planned an escape for himself in the middle of the night. Yes, that was it! He would get away. The sky was currently cloudless and if the gods had any mercy on him, it'd be that way at night and he could sneak away.
However much like his body had at the beginning of the meeting, his thoughts froze. The lioness's statement hit home. If he wandered away from Taika, it could mean his life. Well, he'd just have to trust her as he had been doing then, eh? He hated all these dilemmas. He might have hated the way he was thinking right now but certainly not at the moment.
So at Taika's words of proclaimed safety, he beamed and stood a little closer to her. It better be true. He had no wish to wet his figurative pants in public. Just... just deep breaths. He just had to pretend to be strong or he'd be scoffed at indefinitely. Better be strong and manly for the sake of... well, his manhood. Females are inferior. Their job is to mate and give birth to babies. They have no better purpose. To take on an unnatural job was bad for it proved them the weaker sex. And he could use this to his advantage. He could turn the tables, be the one leading Taika around on a lead rope. Defeat the lions. Take over the world. Ok, maybe not that much but you get the idea. It was his job to dominate, right? And that was why she had brought him here, to the training grounds - or what might as well be them.

"Right..." it was amusing to note how the lioness looked more amused than she did skeptical, however, with a small, graceful roll of her shoulders, she swiftly dismissed the notion, turning to face the male with a smile, "I've no idea what she's told you to get you here, but whatever it was... if you ever want out, feel free to come to me; I'll escort you back myself," she turned to aim a glance at Taika whom pouted slightly, having flattened her ears back.
Now, Taika had little doubt the male buck would do everything in his own power to stay as far away from the lions as possible, and thus... had no fear he'd leave on his own. Regardless, she did in fact feel almost as if someone had rained on her parade. Her eyes moved to glare at the petite lioness, her brows knitting together in consternation, "Spoil sports..."
Raising a paw to cough into it, Tsi'hilu turned her attention back on the male buck, "You've nothing to fear from me; my mate is a different story, but..." she arched a brow, her gaze gliding skillfully towards the brown hued female, whom still seemed intent on pouting, "If you two go together to tell him about this, you shan't have anything to worry about," a pause followed, during which she looked at Radi with a critical eye, "If you're going to stay...." she let the words die out slightly, a devious smile hinting at the corners of her maw, "You're going to need some body paint."
Instantly, Taika's head, which had been held low, perked, "Makeover!"
Tsi'hilu chuckled slightly, motioning towards the paint both she and Taika sported over their bodies, "It's a good way of alerting others you're from around here; might save you in a time of need."

He raised an eyebrow and tried to look more skeptical than scared. "No, that's alright. Thanks for offering, though," he replied politely to her offer to escort him back. If he needed to, he'd brainwash Taika to do that ...which could take a while. He felt like he had walked into a trap. Not pleasant at all.
And who was this male they kept talking about? Not that he wanted to meet that male. Just... well... he couldn't help but be curious.
"B-body paint?" he paused to analyze what they were talking about before he realized it was nothing that was going to kill him. Darn it for being so darn edgy and nervous, giving himself away. How was he supposed to show himself as a man now? "Oh, well, sure. I trust you. Let's go for it." Well, maybe he didn't ...but why not let them believe it for a while, eh? Besides, he couldn't help but smile at Taika's exclamation "makeover".

It was quite obvious that Taika was practically holding herself down, trying to refrain from standing up to prance about, shouting 'Makeover! Makeover!' over and over again. The light that danced in her eyes innocent for once as she gasped and looked off to the distance, "Red!" she chirped, "And brown! I think it'd look dashing on him!" needless to say the idea had been welcomed by her, to a point there seemed to be almost a childish glee ringing in her voice.
Tsi'hilu had in fact noticed this, and could not refrain the chuckle that bubbled up, "Indeed," and this said, she nudged the male carefully on the side of his neck, guiding him towards the water hole, where she'd previously mixed various substances earlier. In fact, she'd painted up Nyota herself, earlier that day; the 'paint' in question was still fresh and usable, "This way," glancing down at Taika's hooves, she arched a brow, "Though I've no idea how you plan to paint him with those, Tai..."
Blinking, the waterbuck looked down, frowning mildly as she lifted a hoof; the lioness was right, "I'll..." a pause as she seemed to ponder, "I'll think of something," came the reply, her brows knitting together as she watched Radi, going as far as pouting.
"While you think, I'll get a head start then," this said, the lioness dipped her paw in the nearest puddle of mixture and began to draw over the male's back and face with a digit. She smiled throughout the whole process; she'd not missed the way Radi was fidgeting, and knew what he was thinking. It amused her, and made her chuckle lightly, "Relax," the word was murmured softly into his ear, whispered there as Taika's own perked up.
"Got it!" she chirped slightly, and this said, she dipped the tip of her tail into the mixture, turning her back to him, using it as a brush to stroke his side with it, "What do you think of that?" it was clear by her smirk she felt oddly accomplished.

Radi shivered slightly when Tsi'hilu began painting on him, the feel of the cool mixture against his fur which was significantly warmed by the hot African sun. As they painted and told him to stop fidgeting, he did, relaxing into the feel of the paint on his fur. It was like scratching an itch you didn't even know you wanted scratched but once it is, you don't want them to stop. That was pretty much how he felt.
When Taika began to use her tail, his mouth twitched and he had to try hard to keep from laughing. Because the feel of it compared to a lion's paw was light and feathery and his brain told him it tickled although he tried his best to use the other part of his brain to quiet that part down and not laugh.
He looked over his shoulder to look at what progress they had made at Taika's question. All he could do was smile a bewildered but amused-looking smile.

"I think he likes it," the lioness chuckled, moving to allow Taika access to the male's back, "Has that goofy little smile on his face; Nyota was hardly this easy to work on. He kept twitching and trying to scratch..." then again, she wasn't going to go into detail over the playful banter she and her mate had shared during said paint session; Tsi'hilu figured she actually still had paint inside her ears from it.
"I think his brain fried, and that's why he's not talking," Taika smirked, able to glance at Radi even while working; using your tail as a brush had it's ups and downs. She could control both what she was doing and the male's expression without having to shift; on the other hand, her tail wasn't nearly as manageable as Tsi's paws were, "Something tells me you two did more than just painting anyhow," she snorted, arching a brow as she worked away at Radi's soft pelt, "I'll save you your pride and ego by not asking further though," despite her claim, she still had that look in her eyes that signalled she'd be asking the lioness for details later on when they were alone.
Swatting Taika with her tail once for such a response, Tsi'hilu moved to face Radi, "I'm going to work your face, dear... stay still; it might tickle a little. If you need me to scratch, I'll do it for you till the pain dries, hmmm?" this said, she sat on her hind legs and gripped his head with a paw, carefully, her claws never once peeking from where they remain hidden; her other paw raised and began to work on his face, a circle here, a line there, staying mostly around his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. Only when she'd determined she'd finished did she let go of his head, "Go near the water, love? And check out if you want anything else added," a pause followed, during which she tilted her head, "What's your name again, dear?"
Finally deeming her work done, Taika too took a step away from him, eyeing her tail which still dripped paint. Surprisingly enough, she remain quiet, allowing Radi to answer the question as he deemed appropriate.

If there was such a thing as a large contradiction - other than Radi himself of course - it was the subject of this paint. The feel of it flowing over his pelt had been a delightful feeling that he had compared to scratching an itch. And in all irony that the gods could muster, as it dried, indeed, it began to make him itch. A reversal in the feelings he had begun to associate with the painting.
He ignored their talk as idle females' talk although it was more for the sake of keeping it from affecting him than anything else. "I'm Radi'Utengo," he said with a slight dip of his head.
Walking to the water, he admired himself and at the same time condoned himself. And he didn't know which side he was more comfortable with excepting. Well, of course, the easiest was the side that complained. On the exterior, it was always easiest for him to be a cynic. And then there was the part that had kept him in one location for most of his life that wanted to be a part of something which was what the paint did. So at the same time, he admired the workmanship and the quality of his new designs and also sneered at them for they associated him more closely with lions. So while his eyes were a myriad of emotions, his face seemed otherwise passive.
"It's... it's fine," he decided on. It was too hard to make a real decision with conflicting emotions and decisions that each wanted to dominate him. So fine would have to do. "And you're sure this is for the best, right?" Couldn't hurt, right?

"You'll be fine, dear," the lioness smiled, no doubt amused by the ordeal she'd only recently been presented with, "Either way... stay around Taika; she'll make sure you're fine. If you leave with me and my clan, ours shan't hurt you at all. You shall be safe during you ah... stay," she paused then, gaze sliding over to Taika, a brow arching slightly, "Speaking of, how long IS he staying?" lifting her paw, Tsi'hilu looked at the paint that still dripped from it. Eh... she'd go clean it now.
Taika huffed slightly at her friend's slightly implication, "As long as he wants!" which she'd make damn sure would be for a long while - long enough to entertain her anyhow, "Run along now, Tsi! You're dripping paint, and Nyota'll be searching for you no doubt!" after all, he was always looking for the white pelted lioness. Ah, the wonders of being mated, the buck thought with a snort; the breath passed through her nose, blowing at her tuff hair.
The name of her mate seemed to perk her attention almost instantly, "Oh!" despite her obvious desire to rush of though, she paused, aiming the female buck with a pointed gaze, "Take care. Both of you now," and this said, she padded, grimacing at the fact the dirt was now clinging to her wet paw.
Smirking, Taika waved a hoof at her friend before turning back to Radi, "We should go out in the open to eat now, eh? The wind'll dry up the paint soonish, and it'll stop itching," this said, she pushed his side softly with her head and padded off in the opposite direction, pausing only briefly to wait for him.

Radi's head was a mix of confusion. He wanted to show just how suspicious he was but it was like being asleep, going through a daze. Where one was so groggy that an expression of emotion just felt like a waste of energy. Because his first instinct, his habits, told him that Taika's exclamation was a life-sentence, sealing him in a prison of lions. But then again, he had subjected himself to being painted, to following her into what was clearly lion country so he had technically had plenty of chances to turn back.
And that wasn't all. Wasn't she supposed to turn him into a waterbuck male to be wanted by all? Females were subservient and should be pleased with whatever male they get. But it was also true that the strongest male usually held the best ground in the middle of the breeding grounds and of course, all the females tried to flock to him. So if by being in lion country with this female made him stronger then it was all for the better, no? So it was final. He'd just have to force himself to be happy ...or get good at pretending.
"Yes I suppose we should." he replied although the perfect retort sat just on the tip of his tongue.
