Wal-Mart sucks for wool, and so does Michaels. I want to make this :

but I can't find those colors of wool anywhere. Do you know of any yarn companies that from whom I can oder wool and have it delivered to Canada?

The pattern calls for specific colors of Cascade 220 which you can order from Webs at yarn.com and they ship to Canada. Most specialty yarn stores carry Cascade 220 as it is a popular wool yarn, but big box stores like walmart and michaels rarely have it. Have you tried looking for local yarn stores in your area?

Also try these three links, they are all yarn stores based in Canada.

There is actually a local yarn store.... but it's for fine yarn. It's like the BMW and Mercedes of yarn. It's like the higher end brands and it's sooooo expensive.

PS: thanks for the links!!! heart

What kind of brands are considered the BMW and Mercedes of yarn? I'm curious because I think the three yarn stores I have in my area offer pretty plain fare.

But since there is a yarn store, I suggest that you print out the whole pattern and go there to ask for their advice (assuming that they really don't carry Cascade 220 you can at least inquire into substitutions). At $6-7 per skein that bag will end up costing you around $50 not including the cost of handles and lining, as well as leave you with a ton of left over wool. Most non-knitters would consider $50 for a bag to be expensive, not to mention $100 for a sweater's worth of yarn or $25 for a pair of sock. rofl Guess that's why some knitters get so guilt-ridden about their stash!

I don't remember the brands... but I remember seeing 68$ skeins.... I even saw a 140$ ball that was as big as my fist. (not that big). There was pretty much nothing under 6$ for yarn in that store.
I've found something good enough for every color except the blue...

Whereabouts in Canada? I know a number of places in Vermont if you're 'round there.

If you really can't find the right shade of blue, you could always try dying your own yarn. Knitpicks sells yarn dye and undyed wool.

Also, elann.com is based in canada.
