Should I buy?

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3
Corel Painter X
Open Canvas 4.5

Or something completely diffrent?

I sort of want Corel Painter IX5 (or is it three?) but I can't find it on the corel website and it's only one, used, on amazon.com...

OpenCanvas! I love that program so so much. Though, depending on the work you want to get done, oC is a tad simple in comparison to a few other programs.

What program are you using now? And what are you looking for in a new program? Something completely different or simply more advanced?

I'm using a second hand PainterX at the moment. Choc-a-block with features that are fun to play with now and then, but probably don't need. Plus it puts a real strain on my computer (don't forget to check the operating requirements before you buy).

I think $400 is a lot to invest in an art program particularly if you're just a casual or starting artist. OpenCanvas has all your basic needs and then some. At $52 a piece, its not too hard on the wallet, either.

Right now I'm using jasc paint shop pro studio (2002?)

i love it and all, but i want more options for brushes, and so far i have found NO DOWNLOADS for my version of PSP...

I really want to get Corel Painter IX5, honestly, I forget how much it is, but it's not as bad as the others... nor as good priced as OpenCanvas... But i have a mom whose bf works in computer and could get a lot of software for free! ^^;;

Personally Corel was what I used to get started in digital artwork it came with my tablet...and was pretty good.

Till I got better in Photoshop and evolved to using OpenCanvas(And other programs) as well

But really it depends on your preference for simplicity personally Corel was hard for me to understand at first (since it was my starter program) but I prefer OpenCanvas now, much more simple in my opinion, because its lines can mimic pencil linings, although the brush changing back to default every time you change tools can annoy me some times. 3nodding Don't know if this helped, but at least its an opinion?
