How is a person's identity formed? You may offer your own theories or agree with those of others. Personally, I agree with the theories of one Jacques Lacan.

I'll save that for tommorow when I don't have homework~

I spend more time reading online pages because the back light hurts my eye's sometimes~or when I try to read something as heavy as that

Have you read it yet, Dammie? There's no other way to explain it.

I'm not sure...
I believe that beings interpret various signals which shape a self, but the human mind is rather extraordinary... Identifying one to have a "self" (regardless of the Jungian subconscious) is incredible in itself.

Indeed, which is why the idea that 'self' is nothing but an illusion seems to make sense. If something is incredible, it means that we cannot entirely believe that it exists. If it doesn't exist, but only seems to, that would make it credible, correct?

In theory, yes.
Like other theories, we live by and believe in them. So long as you believe in it entirely... It becomes your truth.

Ah, perhaps this shall lead back to the debate which my dear friend and I always find ourselves at when discussing such things. (Mobius are you an Existentialist?)

Do we have souls?

(No. I am a Carpenter's Theory supporter.)

A man is not born with a soul, nor is he given one. A man creates and develops his own soul, or simply chooses not to have one.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 12, 2008 6:58 pm
I disagree.
If there are souls, I believe they, despite developing, are existent to an extent very early and thus, have not been so built by the "carrier," but are influenced, greatly, also, by those surrounding the person.
I do not think anyone can be without a soul.

I believe that to be somewhat right. Even a fire must start as a spark. However, such a spark needs to be fed and nurtured, and to deny it that is to extinguish it entirely. However, when I say there are some people without souls, I do not mean that they are without souls per se. A spark alone, with nothing else, is nothing. But a group of sparks can form into a grand blaze upon combination. Some people form group bonds that are so powerful that it can be said that the group shares a soul. For one to die, the rest feel the pain, and feel unwhole. Upon all of their passing, that unity is regained. A soul, like many things in life, is what you make it.
