Phusa was quite happy with the sudden happy family thing that was going on until her sister called out. Then she stopped and just ran after her.
"Nissa, Nissa! Whats wrong? Aren't you happy we have a father at last? Nissa!!" She shouted after her sister, struggling to catch up with her but running all the same. What was wrong with her sister? Why had she given their father such a spiteful look? It made no sense!!!
Nissa's outburst and the look she gave him shocked Dhar. He didn't know what to say but he turned to Ivie once the girls had gone off. She had said something to them.
"What did you tell our children Ivie?" His voice was harsher now. He knew nothing of her plans, he knew of her love for his brother but he hoped more then anything she would love him and not Fedha one day.
"Why does your own daughter turn around and tell you she hates you? What has happened?" He was demanding answers now, he couldn't help but do so. They were his children, he didn't even know he had children and now he meets two of them and one runs off after giving him a dirty look and telling Ivie she hates her. What was going on?

She slowed, comforted by her sister's presence, her calling voice. When she was far enough away she slowed and turned, collapsing on the ground.
"I am happy...no, no I'm not but at the same time I am." She raised her eyes tentatively to Phusa. "I'm glad he's here, but why didn't he show up sooner?" She sniffed.
And after a momentary pause, she continued. "It's mother, why did we have to have a liar for a mother? I hate it. I love her because...well because she's mum, but I hate her to, I hate her for what's she doing." She growled.
"I'm never falling in love, Phu, never."
Ivie knew what had brought on that anger. Knew why Nissa was so angry at her. She felt faint, sick. What was she supposed to do? What was she supposed to say?
Now, Dharba was going to hate her too.
She didn't dare glance up at him, afraid that the look in his eyes might chill her heart.
"Oh, Dharba. I've done a terrible thing. What's happened to me?" She sounded wounded. "I've turned into some twisted beast. What happened to change me? My mother...my mother would be so ashamed."
She knew what had happened to her.
Fedha had happened to her.
"I've lied to them, especially Nissa." She murmered. "I tried to get her to lie for me." She whispered, voice hoarse. Her body trembled. "I told her to pretend that she was Fedha's daughter." Tears gathered. "I tried to use her to win his heart."
This was it. She'd lost everything and it was all her own fault.

"Oh Nissa." Phusa couldn't understand her sister it made no sense!
"What reason did he have Nissa? Would you return to someone often if there was no real reason to? He didn't know we existed!" Phusa was starting to feel the same hate that her sister had for her mother.
"He could make things better Nissa. He seems to care!" She was desperate. She just wanted to have a father, she didn't know why. Maybe it was just because the attention but either way she just wished for them to be happy. "We could give him a chance Nissa, at least get to know him!" She didn't know why she was begging her sister, but she did so anyway.
"Don't fall in love then sis, but it might be worth finding out why our father seems to love mother. He clearly knows about his brother, you could see it in his eyes!" There you go, begging some more.
Dharba was angry, there was no doubt about it. He was close to screaming but like always, he held himself together and just looked away letting the silence drag out between them. The thoughts were flooding through his head and then... it clicked.
"You planned it all along?" It was a question and he daren't even look at her as he asked. That night... when he thought that maybe. No. He didn't want to think about it.
"Does my love for you mean nothing Ivie that you use my children to try and blackmail my brother?" Dhar was angry, very angry and all he wanted to do was attack her but yet he loved her. He would always love her. Stupid feelings, so so stupid.

"If he loved mother so much he could have come looking for her..." No, that was enough. Phusa was right. Maybe if Ivie had told him then he would have come to see them. They would have grown up with a father.
"Maybe you're right." She admitted after a moment. "But he probably hates me now, too." She sighed, digging her claws deep into the earth. What was wrong with this family? Surely other families weren't as screwed up as this one?
"Everything is ruined, Phu." She sighed. She'd always been on rocky terms with her mother, always arguing and falling out but there had always been that make up afterwards. No matter what happened she'd always returned to snuggle up against her mother's side when it was dark and she was tired. Mother had been affectionate when they were cubs, pampering them. She had started off so well.
But ever since meeting Fedha. Ever since her plan had fallen apart, Ivie had grown distant from her children, though it had slowly been happening all along.
Guilt, Nissa realised, guilt that every time she looked at her children she knew what she had done. Maybe she was learning her lesson after all.
"Let's wait for mum to go, then we can see dad ourselves." Nissa replied, pulling herself up into a sitting position.
"No." Ivie shook her head. "Not from the beginning. I wanted to be with you Dhar, I had no intentions then, I promise you. I didn't even realise I was pregnant unmtil it was obvious enough for everyone to notice."
She curled her claws into the dirt, gripping onto the world that seemed to be slipping out from under her.
"The plan came afterwards..." A tear slid down her cheek."But that doesn't make it right." She shook her head.
"And look at them Dharba! Our children, they hate me, or some of them do. I think maybe it best you take them away from me."
She hesitated, looked at him, looked at him right in the eyes. She saw the hurt there, the conflict. Her body shuddered but she carried on looking at him. "I didn't mean to hurt you." It was a weak response but it was heartfelt.

Phusa nuzzled her sister softly.
"Look I doubt he hates you and if he does, we still have each other! We will always have each other ok?" She smiled at her sister. Phusa didn't know why but it seemed that Nissa was the one she was closest to and she didn't know what she would do if Nissa just dissappeared.
"Lets go back and watch, we might learn something if we hide in a bush or something. Mums been keeping secrets, lets go find out what they are!" She more just wanted to go see her father again but at the same time, she was happy to just sit with her sister.
Dharba just listened, he wasn't sure what to say. It was clear some of the children did hate her and even though part of him was saying that all she was doing was lieing to him again, he couldn't believe it. Love was a strong emotion and he knew Ivie loved his brother.
"Why would I take them anywhere Ivie? There are as much your children as they are mine." He sighed a little and looked up at the sky before away looking in the direction the girls had gone.
"Ivie, I will help you now, I am here but maybe we should leave this area. Return to the lands you or I was born maybe? Away from him." He knew she liked these lands but it wouldn't help her to be that close to him.
"We can start again somewhere else, a fresh start for the family." He was being serious, all he could do was hope that she would realise and agree it was for the best.

"Okay, sis." Yes, Phusa was right. No matter what happened to their family, atleast they would still have eah other. Besides, there was always a silver lining to every cloud, right? She just had to make sure that she found hers.
"Let's go listen in." She agreed and standing up she glanced around, seeking a place where they could listen in. "Over there." She pointed a paw at a thicket. It was thorny looking but no one would ever think of looking for them there.
So with the quick paws of youth, Nissa headed towards it.
Ivie blinked, stepped towards him. She was so much like a cub in that sense. She craved comforting, attention, just like a cub would, seeking it's mother. She dared another glance into Dharba's gentle face.
"There's nothing left for me at the Pridelands, Dharba." She replied. "Only bad memories." She sighed. "Just like this place now. Everywhere I go, the lands wilt and die. Maybe it's best I just dissapear." She remembered first arriving here in search of her mother. The sea had glittered with diamonds, the sand had been warm to the touch. Now it was all dark and cold, shrivelled up.
"But you're right. There's nothing here for me now, either." She murmured. "Oh, Dharba. We only get one chance at life. Only one. I've ruined mine." She sniffed and moved forward, burying her face into his mane. "It's too late for that. The children won't come. Why would they?"

Phusa nodded and trotted over to the bush before settling down to listen. It took a while before she actually heard anything but they were talking about leaving.
"Would you leave Nissa?"
Phusa expected her sister would, she always would leave one day. Nissa was just like that.
Dhar was getting fed up and raised his paw hitting her, mostly gently around her head.
"Just stop the self pity its getting stupid now Ivie. Children grow up and move on. They live, they die, just like us. You aren't with your parents now and nor am I. If they don't wish to come I am sure they are fine by themselves. The cubs that do wish to come can." His voice was becomming somewhat commanding now.
"We will wander until we find somewhere that feels like home ok?" He looked at her and let out a soft sigh.
"Sorry if I am being harsh but you can't keep thinking negatively!"

Nissa glanced towards her sister and gave her a meaningful, thoughtful look. Would she leave? Could she leave behind the only home she had known, the only family she had known.
The juvenile gave a small nod. "Yes, I'd leave. But not with her." She cast a spiteful glance towards her mother. "If I left it would be on my own." She drew herself up a little. "When I'm bigger I'm gonna be rid of this place."
Then, casting a glance towards her sister, she smiled a little. "You could come with me you know. We could take care of one another."
She looked at him. Just looked. Looked into those deep eyes, eyes that showed of his frustrations and his love. What could she do? Could she really leave all this behind? Could she really let go of Fedha'kialio after all this time?
Tears stung painfully at the back of her eyes. "Okay." She managed to choke the word out. "Okay, I'll go with you. Take me away from this place." And slowly she turned from the grey male and swept back to her den, mentally preparing herself to leave her loved one behind.

"But wouldn't you want to get to know our father a little?" She looked at her sister slightly longingly. Phusa wanted to know her father, if only for a little bit, to try and find out why her mother seemed to care so much about him but yet still love his brother.
Phusa would leave, of course she would but she would make sure she got to know her father at some point. She wanted to know so much about him and after all, he was family.
She watched her mother turn to leave and went running over to her father, sitting right in front of him. She just stared at him, looking at his mane and his eyes and his whole body. She was curious.
Dhar's heart was close to breaking as he watched Ivie make the decision and the feeling he felt when she said that she would come was indescribable it was so good but yet Dhar was still worried she would try and return. He would get over it eventually.
"Thank You." He only whispered his reply as she left and not long after she left one of the youngsters appeared in front of him. This was something of a rollercoaster of emotions.
He had his girl, at last and a family, 6 cubs, he couldn't believe it.

She shrugged. "I dunno." She glanced over at her father. He was a simple looking lion from what she could gather. Grey and white, kindly, gentle, softly spoken. She narrowed her eyes a little. Made stupid with love, apparently.
"Look at him Phu..." But Phusa had already gone and Nissa had no choice but to follow. She sidled up alongside her sister and sat, glaring up at the grey male with an odd look in her eyes.
"Mother doesn't deserve you, you know." Nissa's voice was bland. It wasn't that she was trying to ruin her mother's life. SHewas just trying to save this poor lovesick fool from getting hurt. He was her father after all, and she did care about him.
"Where've you been, huh?"

Phusa hadn't known what to say so was happy when Nissa came over and said something. She agreed with her sister completely and so she just waited for an answer.
Dhar watched as his other daughter came up to him and then said something he wasn't quite sure was true. He did realise however that he could possibly find something out about how they had been living through these two and why they hated their mother so much.
"Why doesn't she deserve me?" He asked softly, just curious.
"Where have I been? I went to look for my mother. She has been ill, very ill infact and was pregnant when I left her with my sisters, she is fine now and has had another litter, they aren't the healthiest children in the world but she is getting better. You have many aunts and two uncles and many cousins." He chuckled a little.
"If I had known that Ivie, your mother, was pregnant I wouldn't have gone. She wanted some time to herself and I needed to check on my mother." It was true, he had checked on his mother because even though she hadn't been the best mother, he loved her. He could only hope his daughters did love their mother and just tried to pretend that they didn't.

Nissa bristled. "Because, she's selfish." Nissa sneered. "She used you, she used us, all for that snot-faced brother of yours." She dug her claws into the ground, suddenly angry. Angry at herself for not seeing it before, angry at this male for being so kind to a female who would never appreciate it.
She hesitated as he continued on about his own mother...her...grandmother? She had cousins and aunts and uncles? She had this whole big family that she had never known existed. She squeezed her eyes closed and shook her head. It was too much to take in, far too much.
Until today it had just been her mother and siblings. Now...now she had much more, though it felt as if she had much less. The crimes of her mother were out in the open and though Nissa loved her - she was mother after all - she'd lost respect for the adult, felt as if somehow she had superceded her mother in maturity.
"This is all because of mother's freak powers." Nissa spat. "It's turned her loopy. She's mad. Insane! You should go back and be with your own mother. It sounds like you got a good one. Stick by her. You're lucky to have her."
She gave a small roar - hardly a roar considering how young she was. Then, in a flurry of rage and grief she turned and fled, not looking back once.
Oh she'd return, but for now she needed to be alone. She needed to think.
