Floyd This will vary by state and city, as well as by the specific diagnosis of the mental disorder in question. If it is a life long problem that drugs and/or therapy will not resolve, don't plan on owning a gun of any kind. Especially after that last college shooting that made the news. More states will impose draconian policies against people with mental disorders. Even the NRA has backed down somewhat from defending the rights of individuals with psychiatric problems.
