Mvushi stalked through the Mwezi lands in a foul mood, he hated this crap. He'd already had to preform the stupidest tasks, from cub-watching to fetching a stick just because someone was amused at his position. Couldn't they just leave him alone?

Well, of course they couldn't. He was now here for their entertainment or to help them, or for whetever reason they wished really. Still, he couldn't help but feel angry at the moon for this whole ordeal, and at Denge. Why had she left him? Oh he'd loved her so, but he was not good enough! Why had he been so stupid as to sink to this class just to be with the vile lioness?

He grunted as he slipped into a shadowy part of the land, slowly sitting and licking at a paw before laying down. Good, it seemed to be deserted here and perhaps he could hide here for the rest of the day.

Alala sat idly flicking her tail back and forth, free for once of the demands of higher-class lions. Time for herself was short-lived and so she did not bother to occupy herself with anything, knowing that at any moment someone could come along to interrupt her. And so she allowed herself to be idle. Surely someone would come along in a few moments to order her around once more.

And surely enough, Ala soon heard the brash sounds of another lion stomping nearby. She tensed a moment, waiting for the harsh words that would surely be flung at her. But no - she could see now that this was only Mvushi, a fellow slave. No orders would come from him. At least, none that Ala was compelled to comply.

He stalked by without seeing her, apparently angry. Ala mused, with a wry smile, that he wasn't taking to slave life quite so well. If she could remember correctly - and often she couldn't - Mvushi was only recently brought to this low rank. What he had been before now, Ala couldn't recall, as she hardly kept up with the goings-on of the higher class snobs.

Amused and a bit interested to hear about his predicament, Ala leisurely climbed to her feet and followed him to where he retired in the shade.

"Hiding, are we?" Ala piped up smoothly as she came within view of the male. "Strange that we are both unoccupied. The poor high-class lions must be fretful, having to do their own chores." She meant this as a kind of commiserating greeting, but was unsure of how Mvushi would regard her. After all, she had been born a slave; he was true upper class.

His head snapped to the voice and he looked surprised for mere seconds before his expression became slightly sulking, slightly annoyed. Hiding as if he was some lowly... well yes, that was exactly what he was doing. But he was not pleased he was stuck speaking only with the lowly lions of the pride, all of his 'friends' had turned their backs to him, a few even tried to make him do exsessive chores and goad him into arguements to be punished, it was humilating.

He almost ignored her, almost. But he admitted to himself he'd grown very lonely, wishing very much for some sort of companionship but he'd never think Alala would be it. "I don't see you running after them asking what to do next." He said dryly, and as much as it was an insult there was something of a teasing nature in his words. So it seemed it did not take him a life time of slavehood to figure out it was easy to just hide away, as he thought she was doing.

Over the years, Alala had built up a very effective wall against insults. She had had to - either become numb to them, or succumb to them every time. She was stronger than that; she rose about petty words. There was little that Mvushi could say to here that could twist its way into her heart, even if he used to be upper class. She didn't allow words to hurt her anymore.

Alala scoffed, a slanted sarcastic smile crossing her mouth. "Of course not. A slave must become adept at slipping away every now and again, else they should not have any time to themselves." Her eyes slid away from Mvushi for a moment to survey the horizon. "And don't slaves need just as much time for themselves as any other lion?"

Her cool eyes came back to Mvushi. "It is obvious that you and I are no different intellectually or physically from the rest of the pride. How strange, that the timing of one's birth can affect the rest of their lives in such a way. You of course were not born into slavery, as I was...and yet, here we are, the same low stature, hiding away from the rest. Strange, isn't it?"

Ala didn't really mean anything by her audible reflection. She felt that she did not deserve to be a slave, not that slavery in itself was wrong; and she didn't have any plan or desire to rebel against the institution. It was simply nice to verbalize her thoughts, for once. She couldn't very well tell anyone else in the pride what she thought, not unless they were a slave like her. And it was not often that two slaves were able to have downtime such as this.
