The Tattered Cover was a tiny secondhand bookstore located on one of the back streets of the town, the old building looking far younger than its neighbors by the neat coat of paint and even neater boxes of flowers that lined the outer windows.

Inside the little used bookshop was just as tidy as it's exterior, save for a fairly sizable stack of books sitting on the front counter. These were being attended to by a feline hybrid of sorts, the slim figure working on shelving the books, as the store was nearly empty aside from him. The store's only other occupant was an infant, asleep in a little crib that was situated behind the sales counter.

"Mm," the feline half-sighed to himself. "Quiet day today." Not that that was unusual. So few people had an interest in used books, it seemed. Oh well. Maybe something would happen today.

As two figures passed by the window, one slowed to a stop and walked backwards to gander at the name above her head. A dark skinned women glanced through the glass before pulling at the hand of a child next to her. "Don't pick at the flowers!" A garbled voice outside the window had risen in skepticism. "Honestly? I could have left you at home for this."

"But mummy, they were going to be fo' you!" A British accent responded, ignoring the woman's last statement. As the young, blond-haired, blue-eyed boy struggled and opened the door Shira sighed, the child's attempt at courtesy and kindness only maddening to her.

"Well thank you, but I don't think the owner would appreciate the gesture as much as I would." The grey-eyed woman aided the boy in opening the door with a small hand, her other whole arm being used to keep up her recently acquired charge against her shoulder. The little girl lying against her was silent, unlike her 'brother', as Shira ventured into the shop- the foreign boy next to her refusing to let go of his mother's hand.

Amazing. Shira commented internally, letting the smell of aged literature fill her nostrils. The oldest child sneered and sneezed obnoxiously loud. If the owner was anticipating silence, he would not get it with those three.

The feline's ear twitched at the sound of voices, his head turning as the door opened with its familiar creak. Oh, how lovely! Customers already. perhaps he should wonder about quiet days more often, he mused to himself with no small amount of amusement.

"Hello," he greeted, shelving the last of the books in his arms. "If there's anything you need, please let me know.

He swished back to the registry counter, tending to the stack of books that still needed shelving. It would be rude to continue shelving with customers present, but at least he could tidy the stack.

The creaking of the door woke Chatri, the infant's crimson eyes fluttering open. He turned to see the source of the noise, but of course the back of the counter obscured his vision. Hmph.
