I'm looking to pick up a red dot scope for my AR. I've been looking around at the cheap stuff, from the Daisy brand $10 scope at Wal-Mart to $50 Tasco scopes on Sportsmans Guide. I'd like some advice here. I hear you pretty much get what you pay for when it comes to scopes, so my price range is... flexible. I'd prefer paying less than $100, but I'm open to ideas up to, say... $600? I want no magnification, and I'd prefer a "tubeless" scope (EOTech's hooded style is fine). It also has to fit a Picatinny rail and be able to withstand the shock of an AR. Soo... shoot.

How about an EOtech? mrgreen

Seriously, if you can afford it, go with quality optics.
Every cheap holosight I've ever used would not stay zeroed.

I'm seriously considering it. The 511 looks about right for me. I don't need any of that night vision crap, I'd never use it. Cutting out that knocks a full $100 off the price, too. If there was something comparable at a cheaper price, I'd like to know about it though. Also, there's another Crossroads show coming up next month. Would I be likely to find a better price there?

The 511 take AAs, right? ETA: It's the 512.

I'm beginning to think that there's no such thing as a "good deal" at gun shows anymore, but you never know.

Just stay the ******** away from Ncstar.

N, but that's one of the more common uncommon batteries.

Well, I did filch my scope mount for ******** cheap. I'm proud of that, at least. Makes me wonder if I'm going to need a buttstock attachment to raise my cheek weld so I can see through the sight, though...

I'd go with the AA model, if possible. CR123As are expensive little buggers.

I'd say yes on the cheek riser too, the A2 + a mount puts it pretty high up. My neck hurts just thinking about it.

For half the price of the AA upgrade (which is $50) I can get a pair of N rechargeables with a charger. Also, the N model is much slightly more compact, which lends itself to use on a pistol, if I ever feel like doing that.

EDIT: Damn deceiving photography...

$10+ for 2 where I am at, of course they are the Lithium Ions so they are rechargeable.
If you can find a charger for them go ahead and get that one.

If you can't find a specific charger for it or find it way too expensive, buy a 6v hobby charger.
I found one for $15, of course you may have to do some work for it to charge those batteries, it comes with alligator clips, it shouldn't be hard.
But if you have any MacGyver like skills you'll be able to get it to work with no problem.

Damn, I know where I'm getting mine from now on.
I'll just buy 10 for $17.50, though. xd

Be an example to your men,
in your duty and in private life. Never spare yourself,
and let the troops see that you don't in your endurance
of fatigue and privation.

ductape and a pen laser

Always be tactful and well-mannered and teach your
subordinates to do the same. Avoid excessive
sharpness or harshness of voice, which usually
indicates the man who has shortcomings of his own to hide.
