A surge of power.

That was all Vast felt. And all he needed to know. Although it was more FELT than known, because...because...

he doesn't know.

He doesn't know why he is here, exactly; or at one point, when he had decided to come here, he did; but the thought was long-lost and the thought affects nothing, really. Only the consequences do. And even then, they stop mattering immediately after the short instance in existence where they have managed to caused a ripple.

Maybe he had a grand purpose before the point was forgotten.

Maybe he was attracted to the mass of power, is all.

And now he stood in the middle of the clearing in the middle of god-knows-where (but does it matter?), waiting for the sudden concentration of energies.

He felt it. It should be coming this way.

The portal that Niko and Blackfell were thrown into was surging with uncontrolled power; it was unstable, as it was rare for a portal to open between Oasis and another world. The angel could feel the fluctuating energies, and she held Fell close to her, curling her enormous dark wings around them like a feathered shell as she felt the pulsing energies.

It felt like forever that they were hurled through it, but in reality it was only a moment. A loud whip-crack burst in their ears, and they were hurtling though a hole of sunlight, crashing onto the ground in a small cloud of dust, sliding for a few feet before coming to a stop.

Fell was shaking. Niko was pretty much out cold from the shock, so he carefully unwrapped her arms from him, shaking her shoulder before looking up just in time to see the whirling violet and black mass that was the portal disappear with a snap. Revealing a stranger standing behind it, watching them.

Vast remained motionless, bare toes just brushing the tips of the ankle-deep grass, as the hole in space shifted and swirled and spewed dendrites of energy all over. A few touched him; more gravitated toward him. And as they touched his skin those threads promptly vanished without a trace. He waited; and as the surges calmed down he could see two figures near the center of the small open area, one crumpled on the tiny match of bare ground created by the whole thing, the other dazed.

He breathed, eyes closed, taking in the shreds of power that lingered in the air as well as traces of those before him. Ash-grey eyes opened once more to reveal no light reflected within them.

"Blackfell," he said, and stared. A stare without meaning yet with a firm intensity that is inhuman.

Fell heard the man say his name, his gold eyes narrowing warily now. Their bout with Chrysalis was making him cautious of any stranger; after what he did to his mother, anyone who knew him without him being aware of it deserved suspicion. Plus the fact the man didn't seem exactly... Human. Granted, he and Niko weren't either, but still.

He braced himself, sitting on his knees, toes curled, ready to spring up if need be. His hand was behind his back, fingers barely touching the hilt of the dagger tucked in his pants. Fell would be ineffective in a fight, but he could still try. The raven spared a brief glance for his mother, laying on the ground, her dark hair a halo around her face.

"Who are you?" The child asked, his gaze turning back to the man who witnessed their return.

Vast blinked. A question. "Vast," he said, "not Vasto."

"Liet said not to talk to strangers," Vast added, not once breaking the odd stare he had on the winged child. Something about Blackfell seemed...familiar. Something he could relate to.

Just where is Liet, anyways? Not that he hasn't tried looking. But every time he he made the attempt...well, they all ended pretty quickly.

Where is he?

"Where are we?"

Fell frowned at the person, Vast, who seemed confused, surprised, in wonder... He couldn't tell what Vast was thinking, though he had already confused Fell.

"Not a stranger if you know their name." The boy said cautiously, though Vast's question surprised him. "Gaia, I guess..." He said, hesitating. Vast didn't seem like a bloodthirsty-bent-on-destroying-heaven-evil-demon, but you can never tell. Chrysalis had looked human enough.

"Why don't you know?" Fell asked, taking a step back, while still balancing on his toes, and sliding a hand under his mothers side, trying to lever her up into a sitting position. She was a small woman, but she was still twice Fell's size, at least, so he was having some difficulty.

Vast tilted his head at Blackfell's answer, still maintaining that curious gaze. "Not strangers? If not strangers, then...friends?" Or that other kind. The kind that tries to kill each other even when they knew each other. The kind Liet told him to stay away from; after which she promptly mentioned it's too often impossible to tell which is which. "Like Liet," he declared. "Only Liet has been known for longer."

"Gaia..." Vast repeated after the child, testing the feel of those words. Is that what this world is called? Liet or Shen had probably told him such at one point, but no correlating memories surfaced. Then again, no memories ever did for him, except for -- oddly enough -- the select few things Liet had told him. What did she say it might have been? -- Imprinting? -- Whatever that means.

He had no clue what Vast was talking about, but he was guessing maybe he was slow or something, had something wrong with his head maybe. Fell didn't quite understand it, but so far Vast had made no move, so he put his full attention to his mother, hooking his little arms under her arms and slowly dragging her up, her torso leaning back against his little frame.

"C'mon, mom, open your eyes..." He murmured softly, keeping one hand holding her up, using the other to lightly slap her cheek, the sound of flesh on flesh loud in the relative quiet of where ever they were. He looked up again, to see Vast muling over the word "Gaia" apparently, looking almost as if he, too, had just been dumped here.

"How did you know my name?" Fell asked, raising his voice slightly to make sure he was heard over Vast's murmuring.

Vast continued to watch the pair. His blank, wondering stare might have been considered...cute, if not for the unnerving intensity. Why was he here again? Oh, right, the power surges.

"I know your name," he stated. "It comes from you, in the air." If this person is not a stranger, then it must be okay to answer the questions.

Then again, the reason he same here in the first place is no longer valid, and the two beings hold no interest to him, as of now. Blackfell might have, under less extreme circumstances. He'll find out the next time they meet.

"There is nothing else here," Vast said out loud. "I'll be going then," he added as he turned away.
Maybe he can find Liet or Shen this time.
