Because the chicken has a unique mindset. It's main thought process involves a complicated series of tthoughts including, "Because i can" and, "This i can accomplish." Of course, domestic fowl dont think in terms of words, but in thoughts that portray something we could visualize using words. Now, with these tjoughts in mind, its only natural that a chicken would cross a road. It sees no clear and present danger in simply being somewhere, so it beleives that it can do it, therefore, it does it.
