Ratri_Cat Haydar the Truthful Ratri_Cat السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته oi, why does it seem that Allah is a punishing God.....
i thought he was supposed to be full of love and mercy. This sounds like a harsh Judge sweatdrop Things aren't always as they seem in this world. Illusions strive in EVERY community. wait...what? you're saying that God being merciful and kind is an Illusion?
No, I'm saying Earth in itself is A Illusion/Test set by God. Although some people believe in that whole "God is a Illusion" and what not, I certainly do not.

Ratri_Cat السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته oi, why does it seem that Allah is a punishing God.....
i thought he was supposed to be full of love and mercy. This sounds like a harsh Judge sweatdrop God is JUST. That involves both rewarding AND punishing. However, His mercy is reflected as such: He will always reward you, no matter what. However, if He chooses, he can choose to not punish you for something. If God did not punish, then what would keep His followers in line?
Also, I've heard that the punishments given in the original post isn't authentically proven by Qur'an/Hadith.
However, it's still a huge thing to miss prayer:
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) is reported to have said, "A person neglecting his Salaah (even though he makes it up later) shall remain in Jahannam for a period of one huqb. A Huqb is equal to eighty years of three hundred and sixty days each, and a day in Akhirah shall equal one thousand years of this world." Huqb literally means a very long time; in most Ahadith it is explained as being eighty years as given above.
Abu al-Layth al-Samarqandi is responsible for the Hadith in which Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) is reported to have said, "The name of a person who neglects even a single obligatory Salaah intentionally is written on the gate of Jahannam, which he must enter.”
Ibn Abbas (Radiallaho Anho) narrates that once Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said, “Ask Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) to cause not anyone of us to be an unfortunate penniless.” He then said: “Do you know who is an unfortunate penniless?” At the request of the Sahabah he explained to them, saying, “An unfortunate penniless is he who neglects his Salaah. In Islam there is nothing for him.” In another Hadith it is said, “Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) will not care a bit for the person who has been neglecting Salaah intentionally and for him shall be an awful punishment.

I know that. However, your perceptive of Allah seems to be very much like the description of the Jewish conception of Yahweh. Or the Fundamentalist Christains. A God that is fierce in his punishments...sometimes more than showing kindness and mercy. Fierce punishments to keep people in line out of fear.
I am taught that God is like a stern father/caring mother. Slow to anger, and his full wrath will be revealed on the day of the apocolypse, where he is said to become a harsh judge.
Even after you die and you have committed many sins, grave sins, BUT you repent in front of God and are truly sincere in wanting to atone for your sins and acknowledge God's love and mercy, you will not be cast into hell. You are sent to purgatory, and eventually heaven.
-_- but whatever. we all have our own perceptions of God, which will always be limited in comparison to the Almighty
