Explanation for Queen
#1 Bella has been referred to as 'innocent.' And innocence is typically shown in the colour white. #2 Queen is of royal status just like the Volturi. And the volturi are awaitting the day for Bella to become a vampire so that she can have a spot with them. #3 Queen = Ruling Figure, what Bella means to Edward.
Explanation for Pawn
#1 Edward is a beast that thirsts for blood, hence the red colour used for the pawn. #2 If Edward was to join the volturi, he would be part of the guard. And another of saying a guard is pawn. #3 Symbolism of Edward's devotion to Bella.
