Story
[Adolescence of Utena]
Elegance is a way of life at Ohtori Academy. For close to one hundred years, the elite boarding school has values tradition and ceremony above almost everything else.
Into this academic milieu walks Utena Tenjou, a short-stressed teenaged girl who favors trim-cut boys clothing. Almost immediately, she finds herself embroiled in sword duels, knotty romantic entanglements and a string of shady alliances. There's a cloud of mystery hanging over the campus of Ohtori and everyone Utena meets harbors a dark and twisted secret.
A liberal adaptation of the movie by the same name, The Adolescence of Utena veers wildly from its original source. More direct than the anime and more mature than the original manga series, this version of Chiho Saito's fractured fairy tale blasts Utena straight into the iconic stratosphere.

Volume 1
One day, a little girl learns that her parents have died. The grade-school-age girl wanders the rain-soaked streets of her hometown with no distinct purpose. Drenched in rainwater and tears, she find herself by a river and throws herself in. Suddenly a man appears--her prince--and he rescues her, banishes her tears, and tells her to grow up strong and noble. From then on she strives to grow up to be a prince just like him!
Volume 2
In search of her mysterious and elusive prince, Utena Tenjou has recently arrived on the campus of Ohtori Academy. Wearing a rose-engraved ring on her finger, she is immediately accepted into the school's inner circle the sword-fighting student council. Not entirely comfortable in her new social situation, Utena nonetheless perseveres hoping her classmates will eventually help her in her quest. One classmate in particular, the dreamy but rakish Touga Kiryuu, seems to know more than the rest.
But Touga isn't playing by the same rules as everyone else. He's following his own secret agenda and isn't above manipulating poor Utena to get what he desires. As student council president, he holds a tremendous amount of influence at Ohtori Academy. One way or another, he plans to play Utena like a pawn to get what he desires. It's clear that destiny has brought Utena and Touga together. But now, the question remains: Who between them has the power to revolutionize the world?
