It certainly was night, though it was neither dark nor stormy. The lights from inside the house shone bright and cheery, lighting up every section of the sidewalk outside it except for the small section in which Liet stood, dressed in black with her long hair piled on top of her head. She supposed she should be grateful that she had lost her wings in that confrontation of Strae and Avedis, because they would have been a dead giveaway that she was there.
No, she became effectively invisible in the dark. And that was good- it would essentially force the child she hunted to use his powers to light up the shadows and see her. He had to use his powers for her to use Avedis's gift and steal them until Vast returned.
This was a good way to force his hand, wasn't it? To gather people he might be subconsciously drawn to... and of course, those with strong bonds to their guardians. That was important, too- the energy. (Not all of them abided by that rule, but Liet didn't really know why she was picking the children she chose.)
So she kicked over a nearby garbage can, sure from her experiences of this house that it would be Mereneth who was sent out to investigate.

For once, the house was quiet, peaceful, and was rid of the usual noise and hullaballo that arose due to two certain people who were loggerheads. Mereneth's sister had insisted they stop fighting, and besides (He was reluctant to admit it) he had grown close to Yourie, and now their bickering was now more lighthearted and fun.
...Most of the time.
Of course, the quiet time they were enjoying while watching a movie was disrupted (Not that it hadn't already by constant comments on the film) when the crash was heard.
"It's most likely a cat." Yourie muttered. "Maybe one of yours, fire boy. Go bring it back into the house."
"Is not." Mereneth retorted, orange eyes glued to the screen. "Flash is here," He patted the hood of his jacket in which the kitten was curled up in. "And the rest are upstairs in my room."
"They could have gotten out for a pee or who knows? Catching some rodents probably. Go." She repeated, pushing him up from the couch and towards the door, in which he retorted. "Alright, alright, I'll go! Stop pushing me! Sheesh."
Closing the door behind him, the boy let the flame on his tail ignite. Somehow, even though it wasn't rather dark, he felt safe to have fire near him at night, especially when he was out. "Splash? Shauna?" It couldn't be Patch, he hated getting his fur dirty, same went for Lily. He listened, waiting for a reply.

No regrets.
If she was going to turn back, she had to do it now. Liet fiddled with the metal that looped around her fingers, forming runes to restrict elemental powers of all kinds. It would be so simple just to slip it into his pocket and then knock him out, but she found herself assailed by doubt.
NO.
For Vast, she did this all to get him back. She worried about him, he was helpless really against the vagaries of the world, unknowing and uncomprehending as he was. He wasn't safe away from her, Liet knew it in the core of her souls. So she leaped forward and slammed into the smaller boy, skillfully slipping the runes into the pocket of his pants. The light at the end of his tail went out as she slid to a stop in the wet grass behind him. Shifting her weight, she moved to kick the boy in the back of the skull. Either she'd miss, knock him out, or- kill him.
That would attract Vast, she thought, but shook the thought away. Too late to pull out the kick and try for another tactic. She would have to trust to the boy's resilience.

No meowing. He frowned.
"I knew they would be sleeping by now." He mumbled to himself. Mereneth was about to turn back and head back into the house, figuring it was probably a stray. The kitten in his hood noticed a movement, ears pricking up and gave him a hasty meow of warning, but it was now too late.
He whirled around when he felt the flame extinguish, eyes widening in horror. "What in the..." The words came out of his mouth as he drew his hands into balled fists, turning to face his attacker.
"Who are..." He hadn't finished his question before her leg flew at him and he ducked, barely registering his wings flickering into existence. What was happening to his powers? The pyro tried to make himself invisible, but no matter how hard he concentrated, it didn't seem to work. "Who are you?" He repeated.

It seemed obvious to her that he relied pretty heavily on his powers. Even though it was true she might have a little more difficulty since the planned one-hit knockout hadn't gone as planned, Liet was heartened by the realization that the boy would have as much difficulty as she would; prolonged altercations weren't her specialty. Not like she really had one. He had said that the unpredictability of the half-trained would likely be her best bet for this.
"Not important yet," she grunted, lashing out with a (hopefully) well-aimed kick again.

It panicked him, to say the least.
It was normal for him to use his powers, and not having them was awkward, weird. It was like having one of his arms cut off. He was lost, and he felt terrible. Even Flash had noticed the difference in the boy and was asking what had happened.
Mereneth didn't have time to answer however, when the kick hit him and he doubled over in pain. Not important? Yet? His brain barely registered the words.
What was happening?

Close enough. She grabbed him by the bicep and dragged him out of sight of the house while he was still winded, then over to a bench. Only once she got Mereneth seated, with her hand tight on his shoulder, did she dare loosen the other palm's grip and chase out the metal that would get the boy to her hiding-hole with minimal trouble.
Liet activated it and smiled as the two of them were spirited away in darkness.
