It was st the sound of running paws that Ufunuo at last turned, eyes raised to see to watch the siblings as they ran in what he assumed was their own game. He felt terrible, he had upset his sister and ruined the adventure for all of them. If only he could have gone back and changed it, undo the last few minutes, and erase all that he had said. Somehow Peke always brought out the worst in him, and perhaps he in Peke. But he couldn't make excuses, couldn't blame the actions of another for his own, he would simply have to try harder next time.
"Maybe we should just go home."
He would have done so, it had been his intention, but as he rose to his paws, his steps froze. Eyes drawn skyward, his jaw fell as dark figures filled his visions. No, he had to stop them.
"Wait! Come back! There are vultures that way!"
He called after them, paws racing to catch up. They had to stop, why weren't they listening?!
"STOP!"

Ubele sighed unhappily, but reached out and nudged her brother affectionately with her nose. It was a gesture that she remembered her mother and father using. It was very comforting to her. She was startled out of the exchange with the sound of worried voices. Turning, Ubele watched, confused, as the other cubs all ran off. She was glad that Kuruka had decided to play and didn't understand why her brothers were so worried. After all, Kuruka was just trying to play. It wasn't until Ufunuo called after them that she started to panic as well.
"Vultures? Oh no! Dumu, Peke, Kuruka come back!"
With a gasp, she launched to her paws and raced after her brother and the others. She was very worried about the presence of the vultures. If they weren't bonded with the pride members, there was only one other reason that they would be around this area. Something . . . or someone . . . was hurt or worse. What if it was one of the missing pride members? What if it was her own father?
Heart and breath racing, Ubele willed her small legs and paws to run faster, to catch up with her brother and the others.

-Her paws began to slow as her breathing became more and more ragged from the exercize. One glance back would show her how far she'd gone, but softly she reassured herself. She'd run towards the sun, if... or rather when she got too scared she simply needed to go in the direction away from the sun. Right?
Eventually she'd have to stop and 'hide' and wait, but at the moment the sheer physical strain was enough to keep her mind from lingering to nagging worries and fear. So she continued on her hunt for something lovely, nearly hopping with joy when she spotted it.
Against the dusty colored land a small sprig of wildflowers clung to life. Tiny flowers, showing signs of withering from the recent stress upon them, Kuruka nonetheless padded over to them, settling her bottom on the ground before her paws carefully dusted off the precious bit of color.
Front end following the back, she came to rest with her back facing the sun, her eyes watching the horizon, before they'd drift back to the little flowers. In her mind she pictured the rest of the group appearing on the horizon, laughing and bounding along, naive little thing. Too bad she didn't notice the bit of attention that she'd gained herself.
In the sky behind Kuruka circled some vultures in the lazy heat of the day. At the moment they seemed only to have noticed her with mild interest, only time would tell whether or not the avian would keep their distance, or move in for a bit of entertainment and a meal.-
((Off to work with me, feel free to play the vultures if anyone would like :3 Kuruka would sit, or run, or blindly follow her brothers should they make their apperance XD ))

Paws pounced against the earth, racing to catch to the other cubs, silently willing himself to move faster, willing the others to listen to him and turn around. He could not stop until he reached them, skidding to a halt past where Dumu had paused, his body instantly flattened against the earth, ears falling against his skull. Looking up, horrified, he was certain that he had attracted attention, that those great shadows were now circling closer, coming toward them.
Turning, slowly as he dared, he crept toward Kuruka and Dumu, his voice spoken in an urget whisper. Oh please don't let the vultures come after them...
"Come on, we have to go back, hurry!"
In the sky above, movement had attracted the gaze of a shadow. The creature circled, intrigued by those too young to know better than to wander off alone. A beat a wings, it circled closer.
"Run! NOW!"
Young legs coiled, prepared to spring, they had to get out of here!

He couldn't hesitate a moment longer, springing into a run, paws raced fast as he could, willing all the strength he could, faster, they had to run faster! Pausing for only a brief moment, an instant to nudge his sister onward, Ufunuo ran on, ran as hard as he could.
Paws beat, heart pounding, his breath harsh. He dared not look back, did not know if the vulture had pursed, he only looked toward home, that welcoming sight that grew larger with each step. He could not stop, would not until they at last reached hom, until he could collapse in the safety of the den, gasping for breath, thankful his short life would continue on.
It was an adventurous day, filled with drama though it was, a game ruined by fighting, cut short by terrifying shadows. They were perhaps fortunate, the vulture had only sought to investigate, there was no need to strike at the healthy when so many had fallen.
But to a child, shadows seemed closer, more dangerous, terrifying, monsters that threated to eat them. No doubt the story would be exaggerated, growing more frightening with each re-telling. But for now, Ufunuo was simply glad it was over, that there would be other days for adventures.
