Ubele nodded at Peke. She did understand where he was coming from. If it was her brother out there, nothing would have kept her inside this cave. Especially if Hifadhi had not been with her. Still, she was confident that the adult would find Kuruka and bring her back.
Turning toward her brother, she caught the expression and wished that she hadn't said anything. Ever since the quake, their relationship hadn't been the same. With a sigh, she curled up on the ground next to him. She wanted to tell him that the only reason she stepped in was because she didn't want to see her brother get hurt. He'd always been the kind and patient one, whereas she'd been the one to get into arguments all the time. Ufu had always been the voice of reason that had helped her. Now, she just wanted to be able to do the same for him.
She shifted closer to him, hoping to at least give him some comfort while he slept, and closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep.

Hifadhi continued his search long into the night. Even with periodical checking of the cubs, he didn't sleep at all. Pepo helped him, but still the to could not locate the missing girl... and that ate away at the older lion. He had already missed Dumu... but now Kuruka from right under his nose... What would he tell the cubs? Would he be able to come up with a convincing lie? He wasn't sure... not anymore. But he would have too, for even as the sun rose he continued his search with no luck. He had hidden their trail so carefully as they went that he could not even find where they had been in the dark.
So at dawn he returned, finding the cubs sleeping, and sighed heavily, Pepo flying up beside him, "We didn't find the girl..." The bird said, "I guess we lie."
"It wouldn't be the first time." Hifadhi whispered, before he settled down outside the cave... too ashamed to sleep, but too exhausted to continue the search for Kuruka, "We'll just have to continue on Pepo... and do what we can... and hope Dumu and Kuruka find their way to saftey."
