It was one of those days when Naamini was off on her own.

Usually she could count on Kamau catching up with her before she got too far, however today she had outsmarted him by not leaving until later. Her brother was, no doubt, sufficiently confused by her change in plans, which gave her the opportunity to leave unnoticed. She hadn’t gone very far, only down to the shade of a large tree still in sight of the den. After the twin’s last adventure she didn’t want to go and give her mother a heart attack. Hisia was a good lioness, and a good mother. Naamini knew better than to make her upset. Though she was not yet old enough to defend her mother, she knew that once she was bigger she would definitely be on the look out for anyone who dared make her mother upset. They would meet the wrath of her Angry Face. Even Kamau knew better than to mess with that.

The cub had decided that it was afternoon nap time, and thus lay sprawled out underneath large tree. Every now and then her tail flicked, the only sign that she was still awake. Sleep eluded her, though whether it was because she was used to sleeping next to other bodies or because it was simply too hot she did not know. Naamini settled for staring out into space, and idly rearranging the dirt underneath her paws. A little sand mound was forming in front of her, and she knocked it down with a lazy swat of her paw. Sigh. What was she going to do with her day?

However, Naamini was alone as she rested.

Hisia had spotted her daughter while stalking prey, and becoming rather worried as she usually did, had changed course. Now she was bounding over to the white pelt of Naamini, a smile hoping to mask the worry that could easily be identified in her teal eyes. She watched the two like hawks, one thing that couldn't be easily shaken off of the creamy lioness. She constantly worried about the two, ever since they were born. And now that they were old enough to start exploring, her worry was growing more and more each day. Where they could go, where they would venture- it was like a disease threatening to consume her. Mchawi's threats still haunted her. Her words haunted her more often than she had expected.

"Bored?" She murmured, setting herself down as her gaze lay on Naamini. A smile grew on her face as she examined the mound of dirt that had been slapped back into place from where she stood. Just a flat, sandy surface. She chuckled, tail flicking to join at her side as she felt amusement come over her.

The sound of someone approaching made Naamini move to sit up, ears perking when she recognized her mother. She was smiling, which was a fairly good sign. It meant she wasn’t in trouble for going off on her own. The cub was a good deal more independent than her brother, and it probably caused her mother a great deal of worry. That was why she tried to stay fairly close, or at least somewhere where the birds could watch over them. She had some trust that Hestia would watch over them, but not enough to make her unwise. Hestia may be a goddess and “good” – according to her brother – but there was always someone better. She had to be careful how far she strayed when she was alone.

A small smile curved the corners of his mouth upwards when her mother came to join her. Though quite emotional at times, Naamini was not very expressive. She had her collection of faces (serious, angry, stern, things like that) but her ‘happy faces’ were fairly limited. Still, it was safe to say that she was pleased that her mother had arrived. “A little,” she admitted, as she dragged her claws through her ruined sand pile. “Were you hunting?”

The lioness nodded as she cast a glance towards the sand pile once more. She had been stalking prey when she saw her daughter, and of course Hisia- her emotions had stirred restlessly before her, then she was padding towards Naamini. "Yes, I was," she nodded once more and looked off in search of something. A grin suddenly grew on her maw as she spotted what she was looking for. Food, of course- as she stated it, was nibbling carelessly on the remainder of grass it could find. An antelope. Easy to tell, the horns adorning it's head standing out easily. "Do you want to learn a little things on hunting?" Naamini was bored, food was off in the distance, and she was bound to go after it in a moment. What a better idea than giving her daughter a hunting listen?

After all, Hisia wanted what was best for her cubs. She didn't want them growing up being pushed away. Even if it could be happening now- the simple appearance of them both sometimes setting fear and hatred in other members eyes. She took notice of it, sometimes.

It was the smile on her mother’s face that alerted her to the presence of something she should be interested. Naamini lifted her head and turned to look, following her mother’s gaze until she spotted the antelope. Was that what her mother had been after before? Or had she just seen it now. An ear turned in her mother’s direction at the question, before the cub tore her eyes away to look at her mother once more. “A hunting lesson?” Had Kamau gotten one yet? She doubted it. She supposed it would be fair of her to wait for him, but why? She had the opportunity to learn, and if Kamau fell behind she could always tutor him. Her brother would learn soon enough.

“I would like that very much.” The happy look had changed to a look of intent, as she turned her attention back to the antelope. She must be far too small to do any real damage to the antelope, so she asked, “What do you want me to do?”
