As usual of late, Haja was down at the lake. She and Maboya were practically living at the water's edge these days. Of all of the things at home, the lake was Haja's favorite. In the water, she was her happiest. She loved swimming, but she was also at her most helpful in the water. She was an adequate hunter on land, but an exceptional one here.
Haja was a skilled hunter of fish. At times she felt bad killing the lovely sleek creatures, so she always said a prayer when she ended one's life. With her and Maboya hunting every day, fish became a staple of the pride's diet. It made Haja feel great to be so helpful, especially while everyone was recovering from the turmoil of the quake.
So Haja stood still as a rock in the lake, the water up to her chest. She watched as Maboya circled above her, and at his signal, she lunged, snapping her jaw around the fish. Success!! She grinned around the fish, a large one and waded to the shore to drop the fish on a large leaf with four others. It was a good catch today.
