There was a reason his pelt was white - it was meant to be that way. And with all the dirt that manages to catch onto his coat while he walks, it's no wonder the cub had, for now, given up on cleaning himself. He'd do that before he goes to sleep, or his mother would. He'll get clean one way or the other, but for now...just relax.
Dhaka'Kali stared out into the vast morning sky, having managed to dodge his father's criticisms and muttered comments that morning since he snuck away pretty early. The cub had a huge smile on his maw now as he watched the clouds slowly make their way across the sky. It was boring...but there wasn't much else to do, and after a while it got to be entertaining. Sort of...not really. Either way, his smile didn't falter.
"I wonder what dad has in store for me later today.." he said, almost under his breath. "He'll scold me for sneaking off, no doubt compare me to his brother, then go on another rant....he's so predictable.." Kal sighed, then closed his eyes to think a bit more on what his punishment might be.

Unyezi was out for a morning walk, taking a look around the pride's land and trying to guess how the day might play out. Nothing particularly exciting or distressing usually happened, but he wanted things to stay that way! There were more guards than before, and hopefully Thoth would come home permanently soon. Unyezi was happy to keep an eye open though, if not a bit paranoid.
The last thing he expected to find, though, was a cub wandering around on his own. Especially one that looks so similar to himself. Unyezi knew about Njiru's cubs, he knew they were low classed and he knew one resembled him more than he imagined Njiru liked. It was rather funny that Njiru had a son that looked like Unyezi and Unyezi had a daughter that looked like Njiru.
"Hello there, little one," he called out, deciding to investigate.

Kal might've been a little too into his thoughts to notice that someone had spotted him, but when a voice called out to him he was neither surprised nor worried. The cub opened his eyes and rolled back onto his stomach before sitting up and tilting his head slightly when he caught sight of who spoke.
He observed his pelt, noting the similarities between them, as well as the necklace he was wearing. The latter was all he needed to know that this was the king of the pride, so as a sign of respect he bowed his head slightly for a few moments before looking back up at him.
"Good morning, your highness," he greeted with a pleasant smile. Kal had dropped any suspicion that this could be his father's brother. After all, he was royalty, and while Kal was familiar with the traditions of the pride he doubted that his father, even though he's the jerk that he is, could speak so disrespectfully about their king. Distant relative maybe, which would explain the similarities, but brother? Highly unlikely.
Impossible, even.

Unyezi was surprised by the polite greeting he received from the pale cub, especially considering his assumption was that this was the son of Njiru. He ignored the part of him that wondered just what Njiru was teaching him, if anything, and he chose to believe Sini was good influence enough for pleasant cubs.
"Good morning," he returned with a smile, "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting you before, what is your name?"

Kal's ears twitched as he watched the king curiously. He somehow managed to surprise the king, as he noted when Unyezi's expression changed for a split second. He didn't think much on it, preferring to answer the king. It was, at least to him, a privilege to speak to high ranked members of the pride. So talking to the king must be.....a higher privilege. Kal's smile widened when the king decided to continue their little conversation.
"My father named me Dhaka'Kali," the cub replied. "My mom wasn't a fan of the name, but I was the only cub he got to name, so she left it alone."

Dhaka'kali. All question of just how much Njiru had to do with the cubs was forgotten, clearly he was the same old Njiru and doing the same old Njiru stuff. He supposed it was a suitable name, Njiru had a son so resembling his hated brother and the boy was in a low class. Though he was not stuck there like the girls. Suitable but not a name one should give to their cub.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Dhaka'kali," he said with a polite smile, "Now, what are you doing away from your parents so early in the morning?"

A gentle morning breeze passed the two, and Kal's nerves were getting a little worked up. The last question that left the king's maw worried him, and he knew he'd be in for it if he was returned to...well, wherever he was supposed to be. The cub couldn't recall at the moment what he was supposed to be doing, but knew that it'd be boring. It'd be less entertaining than watching clouds, anyway.
The smile that had been on his maw faltered for a split-second as he tried to think of what to answer. It wouldn't be a good thing, to lie to the king, but he was in a bit of a bind......unless his highness would be a bit merciful to the wayward cub.
"Um...I.....just wandered off," he answered, shuffling his paws. "It wasn't a very good morning for my dad, and it's too early to get upset over something he might end up saying.." and the cub trailed off for a moment. He didn't mention names, of course, and assumed that Unyezi knew who his father was.

The king smiled sympathetically at the poor cub, not surprised by the explanation. After all, he would want to avoid Njiru if he were his cub, too. But then, he too was holding a grudge against his brother. Njiru had calmed down but he still wasn't anybody Unyezi would ever want to just have a conversation with or hang out with. It was bad enough dealing with his brother on basis that he was in an important position in the pride. If he was just a hunter, they would never have to have any direct contact. But that wasn't how things were.
"That's too bad," he said, "Where are you heading, then? Have you got somewhere good to hide out?"

The cub was surprised that the king didn't lecture him about wandering off, but instead seemed to encourage the behavior. Sort of....at least the way he saw it. It was weird, but Kal wouldn't take it for granted. It probably wasn't everyday that he let off a cub on the loose. "Not really, since all the dens and stuff are way over there. The only place around here is that tree, and my dad goes there a lot after he comes back from the hunt." He tilted his head curiously, wondering how long he could keep up the conversation before the king told him to head back. Maybe he wouldn't..
Still, his dark blue eyes wandered to the king's necklace, and he thought of his own father's. He had the same one, except it didn't have the leaves on either side. The subject of his escape seemed to have ended already, so maybe it'd be a good idea to ask now.
"By the way, your highness, my father has a necklace exactly like that one. Do all the adults with special jobs have it?"

Unyezi, accustomed to the desire to avoid Njiru, was almost willing to help the small one search for a hiding place. He'd had a happy little hideaway when he was young and wanted to avoid the harassment of his brother, even when he'd tried to hard to get his approval he'd often needed to take a break. Of course, by the time he stopped caring what Njiru thought, he had used it as a place to hang out with Nerit.. which was a mistake because his brother had really known about it all along.
"Just be careful not to stray too far when you go, you are safe as long as you stay within the lands," he said kindly, smiling at the little one who seemed so similar to him. He wasn't sure if he should be surprised by Kal's question, it didn't appear that had realized the similar appearance they shared or that Njiru had told his son exactly who his brother was.
"No, not exactly," he said with a shrug, deciding to just act as if the cub already knew, "They were from our father. Honestly, I'm surprised he still wears his since I have one so like it."

Now that he thought about it, the king had said 'our' in his last statement, and everything just seemed to...click. He didn't let show, though, and smiled politely up at Unyezi. So here's the brother, he thought to himself.
Now that he thought about it, finding a good hideout would probably be a good idea. It'd give him a place to rest, think, or just...idly lie around and do nothing. He'd probably be doing that a lot. At the moment it was all he could think of to do, so he decided that he'd politely excuse himself and head off on his search. Kal got back on all fours, wrinkling his nose at the sight of his dirtied white pelt before looking back up at Unyezi.
"I'll make sure not to wander too far, your highness. Actually I don't think I'll be going any further. I might move a little over there though. He paused and pointed off to one side. Maybe look for a good hideout. It'd be convenient, I think.."

The king wasn't sure what it meant when the subject was dropped so readily, but then cubs often jumped from one topic to another without warning. He thought nothing of it, and continued to smile. He nodded at the promise not to wander too far, and grinned when he said he might look for a hideout.
"It's good to have a place to yourself sometimes," he agreed, "Would you like any help looking? I know our lands like the back of my paw, I could point you in the right directions." And, of course, it might be good for someone to know where this hideout might be. A missing cub would cause a lot of problems.

Kal shook his head politely at the king's offer to go with him, but he really did just want to be alone. Besides, he'd probably feel more accomplished if he went on his own, so he'd have to refuse the offer.
"I appreciate it, your highness, but I'd like to find one on my own if it's alright with you. I'll show you where it is, though, if you'd like. Once I find it, of course."
With that Kal bowed his head for a second before turning and heading off on his own again. It was interesting, talking to his uncle. He wasn't anything like his father described him. But then...that was to be expected. Kal shoved the thoughts from his mind and gave a smile before starting to look for his future hideout.

"I would like that," Unyezi said, surprised by the boy's politeness but not surprised by his desire to work independently. It was good to see him so able and social, a good sign that perhaps Sini had done well despite the unfortunate choice of mates.
"Good luck," he called after the cub as he headed off to search, watching him go for a moment before turning back to figure out just what he had been up to before running into his little nephew.
