Right above the uploading bit (I use the old uploader, so I don't know where it is on the new one) it says "max image size: 1 megabyte file size (options)" Click that and it pops up a window where you can select five or six different image sizes, or a 1MB file size.

I use the old one too since flash killer and script killer doesn't let the new one work. Besides, I find the new one too annoying.
