Buffet glitch?

Okay, so I just installed Sims 2 onto my new computer and I was throwing a party only to realize none of my guests were taking from the buffet table, instead they were all going to the fridge for food! I'm just curious if this happens to be a glitch with the game or not. It's kind of annoying since it seems almost pointless to put out a buffet table.

(BTW, I only have Deluxe and Celebration Stuff.)

I know there are fixes at MATY, I think, to make guests use food that is already available like on a buffet but as far as I know the problem only started in later EPs after the ones you own. Maybe try downloading them and see what happens anyway?
