Yay disney!

nothing wrong with liking more 'mainstream' anime/manga - afterall they got famous for a reason - so long as you approach them new and treat 'em with respect and initial indifference. (like twilight. I really enjoyed it, but I had to approach it clean and indifferent in order to do so, you see?)

I like to read the manga first genrally, unless i'm very lazy. I think the deatnote manga is far better than the anime in execution, plots and whatnot. after you read the manga, animes never quite live upto them, although I do admit that fight scenes are often more exciting in anime (so if your into your shonen that's an advantage.)

case in point: finished reading the Alice in Wonderland chapter of Ouran Host Club over at OneManga today and, it's completely different from the Haruhi in Wonderland episode (thats the actual title of that episode too), go read the manga first then see the episode of the anime and you'll see the difference (though the beginning of the manga chapter is what gives it away)
also, the anime of Ouran is also slightly/heavily edited, though im going on fansubs here though (anime first, then manga):
1. Haruhi's dad, in the anime, is a transvestite; he crossdresses cause Haruhi's mother died a few years ago, in the timeline of the series and he said that he could never love another woman as much as he loved Haruhi's mother.

2. Alice in Wonderland has already been mentioned
all i can really think of for the anime right now, on to the manga now, remember, im going on FAN SUBS/FAN TRANSLATIONS here:
1. In the manga, Haruhi's dad is gay, though the reason why is still the same as in the anime (Haruhi's mother died, said he could never love another woman as much as he loved her)

2. Haruhi/Alice in Wonderland starts out with the host club talking about roles in Alice in Wonderland, with the twins claiming the role of Alice first (kinda funny seeing them in dresses lol) but Tamaki says that Haruhi should have the role (wow, didnt see that coming /sarcasm), and well just read the friggin' chapter -.- it'd be easier than me trying to give a summary of it

trigun is of course the exception as the anime was created before the manga, and boy can you tell...the manga's a bit of a ripoff.
This philosophy carries across into western comics too - I don't think you can fully appreciate a movies based on a comic or book of any type without actually reading where they came from (eg watchmen, spiderman etc).
Then again, your always influenced by what you saw first. reverse engineering can be annoying (as I'm trying to do with leauge fo extraordinary gentlemen, hellblazer/constantine etc).

ho-hum.

i actually compare the anime and manga together sometimes O.o (where applicable though) and i never knew that the Trigun manga came after the anime >.>

And Clamp is great. I really don't take to romantic anything much, but chobits was so innovative and funny I loved it. I really want to chec out XXXholic - is it any good?

but expect to see a hell of alot of crossovers from like EVERY series they've done well, the more mainstream ones at least like:
Cardcaptor Sakura (the staff can be see in one episode)
Chobits (look out for Maru* and Moro* to be reading A City with No People)
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle: well, given that Tsubasa was written in tandem with xxxHolic (according to Wikipedia), you can see Fai's staff, Kurogane's sword... though those are the only two i can think of right now and i think you can only really see them in the manga
those are really the only crossovers i know so far

both the Death Note anime and manga were good, though obviously the manga wins when it comes to the story, cause the anime cant show all of the story the manga does due to time constraints (though for Death Note, i wouldn't mind watching a 45-60 episode if it meant that pretty much the whole story would be shown)

*=got this from Wikipedia when i looked them up cause i wasnt sure about their names but Maru and Moro's full names, Maru-dashi and Moro-dashi, are both words which mean "exposing oneself in public" – similar to "flashing" and "streaking" in English.
O.o
o.O
O.o
wow...
uhh, im going to go out on a limb here and say that CLAMP must've been either really bored or something when coming up with Maru and Moro's names...

I don't understand what you're trying to say here about the anime.
I watched all fansubs for the anime but I read all the official translations, like the ones you buy, so my translations should be pretty correct.

If I remember correctly in one of them Haruhi had fallen asleep and the Alice in Wonderland sequence was a dream.
I don't remember how the other one goes though.
I read and watched Host Club when it came out so it's been over a year, probably closer to two or three, since I've read or watched any of it.
I will admit that was a good anime though, even when compared to the manga. Ouran doesn't have a terribly exact storyline so even though the anime did some things out of order it still worked, they leave a lot out though.
I hear a second season is coming out soon, I hope they cover some of the episodes they missed. *somewhat off topic*

I've never read Tsubasa but I've read the first couple volumes of xxxHolic and You not only see those items but you actually have some sequences where they're talking to some of the Tsubasa characters through Mokona.
I was also going to mention another crossover with Mokona also being in Magic Knight RayEarth.
Then that brings up a crossover from Angelic Layer, also by CLAMP, to Magic Knight RayEarth. The girl in Angelic Layer names the fighting doll thing after the Hikaru. Don't tell me it's a common name in manga since she even says something to the effect of "I named her after the hero from a manga I just read." and shows Hikaru.

CLAMP seems to be fond of crossing their series into each other.
I used to be a total CLAMP nut. sweatdrop

Did anyone see that Funimation had a survey to see what the next anime they should put up be. And on it is sailor moon. Apparently they might bring back sailor moon but have it re-dubbed.

'fans' bad word...it usually means for me the crazy ppl who are easily obsessed and take things way too far. So...I would not say I am a 'fan' of anime, I just enjoy a healthy dose of it.

Anime is actually good for america because it offers animated entertainment that deals with subjects that american animated shows dont. Most american cartoons are aimed for a generally young audience. Whereas, in Japan the violent and controversial information and topics most people in america get through live television must be portrayed in an animated setting due to restrictions to broadcasting by the government. SO....the anime offers more mature subjects to people who still enjoy animation and the capabilities that animated shows allow for that live shows need a budget for.

I will admit that Sailor Moon got be started at a young age haha. And that I have long since had a good appreciation of japan culture...NOT japan pop culture but the deeper culture with superstitions and honor and family values.
