The elephant graveyard had, as of late, been caught by many hazy days. The dust was continually in the air; fog rolling in as the hot air of the savannah hit the cooler temperatures of the gray lands. The sun was trying its hardest to penetrate these thick layer with no avail. The graveyard seemed more macabre than usual, and its inhabitants were stuck in the gloomy dark. A low gust blew across the gray plains, clearing the murk away from a split second to reveal a lonely scene. A large elephant skull sat in a clearing, bleached by the elements over the long years of its existance. Two long tusks protruded out from the base; and on one of these tusks, there laid a dark figure.

Mafa had been quietly resting for a good, long part of the day. Much earlier, in the morning when all had still been dark, the female had gone out for a hunt. She'd returned in triumphant success. Laying at the mouth of her skull den there sat the half eaten remains of a young lion; his yellow coloring contrasting starkly with all of the gray. Licking her chops, Mafa tossed a look at her kill, testing her mind to see if she was hungry enough to go back for seconds. With a yawn, she turned her head away; she was as stuffed as a damn warthog. Mafa stood, sighing loudly, lately she'd been feeling restless, a raw anger dwelling within her. It was typical for Mafa to go through mood swings at the drop of a dime. This was no exception.

For now, gone were her days of calmness, replaced by a brooding rage. Her usual blank face had given way to a perma-scowl. She had no reason to be in a good mood, that she could figure. For now, Mafa had appeased herself with the kill of the lion. How long that would last, well, that was a mystery.

Tukutu, on the other hand, had been doing his best to look busy. Look, because in all honesty there really wasn't much for the older hyena to do. He had done as much as he can when the pack formed; now he was doing all he could to entertain the ones that were left. What was it that they needed? He didn't understand. Action? Drama? All that s**t that lions liked? He didn't see any glimmer in any of it. He just didn't understand the younger generation, did he?

Mmm, he also was notorious for being lazy. His troublesome days as a young fizzled out a long time ago. Now it was just pure will keeping him going.

Will for what, he didn't know.

His body led him to where he didn't really want to be; in Mafa's company. Deep green eyes glanced up to see her reclining form on a pale, yet dusty tusk. Torture. Damned thing.

He settled down on his haunches, licking his maw as he glanced at the meal. He wasn't hungry, but the smell of meat always made him salivate just a bit.

"Wastin' it," he said crudely, his tail beating against the ground in humor.

The light breeze gave Tukutu away long before Mafa had the chance to lay eyes on her mangey companion. She could smell him from miles away, hear him coming from just about the same distance. With a look of disgust on her face Mafa scoffed at herself. She knew him much too well. This came as no surprise of course, the two hyenas had met years ago, as pups, when Mafa had been a dramatically different individual. So much had changed. Some hyenas died, some were born, some just drifted here and there as frequently as the wind. But somethings just always remained static, like the relationship between Tukutu and Mafa, and the fact that they were both still here.

The loud rustle of dirt beneath his lazy feet alerted Mafa that Tukutu had reached eye shot. At that moment, she snapped her head up, turning directly to face him. Her cold eyes would've burned holes through the male if they could've. Quickly, she inspected him; he hadn't changed a bit. The second Tuk spoke, Mafa's eyes darted from his form to meet his gaze. She tossed her head with a scowl, a tone of distaste in her voice,

"Go then."

Most likely, to any other hyena, these words would have dismissed them to come back the way they had came and leave Mafa to her peace. But him, it was more of an allowance to help himself. Whatever was left afterward, she'd probably leave for Mabozi. The alpha sighed, but made no effort to move from where she laid; she simply shifted her body to be able to face Tukutu, watching every move he made. It was apparent she was not in the best of moods, not that she ever was.

"To what do I owe the great joy of this visit? Let me guess, you, like everone else, want something."
