Ryōrinmaru's shikai command is "Sit Upon The Demonic Flame's" Ryōrinmaru is one of the strongest of all Fire element zanpakutō in Soul Society.Ryōrinmaru is one of the zanpakutō spirits that have been seen, Ryōrinmaru's spirit is a large, winged, Japanese dragon.In its shikai, Hyōrinmaru itself remains the same, but gains a crescent-shaped blade attached to the hilt by a chain. Ryōrinmaru allows Zeon to control Fire and Wind. The slashes created by Ryōrinmaru gives off an immense amount of spirit power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of fire vaguely shaped like Ryōrinmaru's dragon spirit. The dragon flies at opponents and instantly burns anything it touches. The chain-blade also burns anything Zeon traps with it.

Ryōrinmaru's bankai, named Zaiguren Ryōrinmaru,causes flame to flow from Ryōrinmaru onto Zeon, forming into two large wings and a tail. Flame also forms into a dragon's head around his sword hand, encasing it up to the hilt.His wings enable him to fly and are capable of folding around him to serve as flame shields.Ryōrinmaru's bankai has two known special techniques. The first is zyūsenka which burns any enemy Zeon stabs, locking them into a cocoon of fire and burning them to the core.The second is sennen hyōrō which forms a multitude of lava pillars witch will turn to stone once the target is trapped within,These pillars hold the enemy prisoner for a thousand years.
